Great pictures Tom. I'm puzzled though. I always thought the 'Daylight' Streamliners were Southern Pacific engines. Was there some tie up between SP & NP? The loco's appear to be in the same number series. Steve, in the UK we occasionally attach diesel or electric loco's for additional braking; train heating or for emergencies. They're never allowed to push!! The art of driving steam loco's is far from dead in the UK - perhaps we could lend you a few of our 'top link' drivers. Best wishes Grant

Hi Martin, Your "Puzzler" looks like bubble carpet pad turned upside down. Bill Well, actually it is a table mat. My grandaughter pressed the shutter button on my camera while it was laying on the table and I rather liked the results. This was in the motohome, here is a more conventional view of the same table. Hi All, particularly railway buffs. This post card arrived a couple of days ago from my mother in law. (Schwiegemutter) The bottom 3 loco types were common when I was living in Hamburg. There were some mid right hand examples still working in the Hamburg goods yards. You had to be lucky to spot them.Graeme

Hey Grant, Thanks, You are correct but the engine is now based in Oregon hence the discrepancy. For the others: The Engine was under full steam with the diesel there for emergencies and to provide air for the braking. Diesel backup is required on the regular rail lines for safety. The 1225 runs on unused lines so it doesn't always need the back up. Grant, The web site for the other is www.sp4449.com. if you like. I got my info from one of the programs for the July show. Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom and thanks for clearing that up for me. Steam operating procedures in the US sound very similar to ours here in the UK, although for the bigger engines like the "Duchess" in my picture, they usually just have a diesel or electric loco 'available' for emergencies.
I never saw mainline steam in America, but was lucky enough to travel behind one of Pennsy's famous GG1 electrics between Philadelphia and Washington in the 70's.
Best wishes Grant

Oh wow! I love fancy up-dos! I like that hair style because it's quite detailed and pretty, but it's still soft and romantic. I definitely prefer that style to the kind where they practically lacquer your hair to your head so you end up looking like a piece of machinery! It sounds like fun. I need more events to go to so I have an excuse to have my hair done! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Thanks Jillian, ,Jono and Richard! Jillian - I actually went to the event with my hair down, and one of the professionals there asked if they could do my hair and makeup. Of course I didn't refuse! This is what my hair looked like when I took it out: And when I woke up this morning after sleeping on it my hair looked nearly the same! I love how well my hair holds curl/shape. I suppose it's because I already have naturally wavy/curly hair. <3 Caitlin

Hello Caitlin Looks as though you enjoyed your 'pampering' and I think your new hair style looks great! I also like your latest avartar picture by the way - I like the idea of hiding an eye and part of the face - adds a touch of mystery to the image. Best wishes Grant
