Hello Fred and welcome to the forum from Central England. I really enjoyed reading your post.  Had you heard Hayley sing before the games? I'm very glad you enjoyed her performance. It is also the first time we have heard her sing in Mandarin and many of us think "The Moon Represents My Heart" was the most beautiful song from her performance at the Games. That would certainly attract plenty of Chinese music fans - after all the billion people in China would be a market of great potential. Hayley performed brilliantly in the Kaohsiung World Games opening ceremony. I was shocked as soon as Shin, who duetted with Hayley, had started to sing the song “The Moon Represents My Heart” in Chinese (Mandarin). I just wondered how Hayley was going to sing in her part. Probably in English? I could not believe that she was singing in Chinese, and pronounced each word correctly and perfectly because I completely understood what she had sung. This was a pop song sung by late pop singer Teresa Teng who passed away in 1995. So far, not many singers could cover it well. Hayley sang it outstandingly well. Because of Hayley's gorgeous performance in the ceremony, all of the tickets for her only concert in Taiwan's Taipei National Theater on October 3, 2009 has been sold out the following day. I can see that Hayley will have a great reception when she appears at the National Theater in Taipei... can you tell us how many seats must have been sold for the concert to be "sold-out"? Meanwhile, here is our next World Games video, this is again in High Definition and it can be downloaded from the HWI website or viewed in normal or HD on YouTube. I have used a bit of artistic licence to make a couple of edits to the video, which I hope will add impact at the start and improve the ending. Hayley's beautiful a cappella verse now starts the video (without the orchestral intro and exciteable waving competitors, who are saved for later.)  And I've slightly toned down the over-exhuberant singer in the choir, who continues to sing loudly after Hayley and Russell have finished. If the changes don't work, you may all admonish me severely and if it's painful, I will consider reverting to the original!

Your editing of Pokarekare Ana is excellent. I really enjoyed the arrangement too, particularly Hayley's a capella first verse and the stunning high note at the end.

Hi Dave, These videos are phenomenal. I'm converting all of the HD files to H.264 and loading them onto my Apple TV. I can then play them in HD on the 60 inch plasma screen. I can now drive the wife crazy on a much grander scale.  Thank you SOOOO much for doing this. I know it takes a lot of time, equipment, and more importantly, talent. Thanks again. Bill |

I just listened to "Moon Represents My Heart" and Hayley does okay with the Mandarin pronunciation... not like a native speaker but okay (there is no way to expect that of her)  To me she did get one part noticeably wrong "wo di" instead of "wo de" = mine - but no big deal... Her voice sounds nice as usual so you hardly even notice it lol Good job Hayley... Hi, Peter I will not argue too much on it. Basically, what Hayley sang “wo di” meaning “my” in the song “The Moon Represents My Heart” was correct. I think that she might get some professional help on singing this song (lyric) . The character “de” (sounded like dә close to a short o) and the character “di” (sounded like dee but shorter) are the same in writing with different meanings. In singing, in order to produce smooth beautiful sound between the words of the lyrics, “di” would be used instead of “de”. You may find a lot of songs of Chinese classic in 50' and 60' at which singers would sing “di” not “de”. But, nowadays, many Chinese pop singers would sing “de” instead of “di”. Both sounds have the same character in writing, which have different meanings when they are spoken with different sounds and tones. For singing, they are interchangeable. People get accustomed for their uses in lyrics. You may also observe the male singer, Shin, singing “wo di xin”(my heart) not "wo de xin" in the lyric duetted with Hayley in this song. I really like Hayley singing “di” between words because it makes the sound more beautifully and classically. I predict that her next market will be in mainland China after her success and popular in Taiwan, and reasonably believe Hayley has begun to learn Chinese language. I think Chinese(Mandarin) is much easier to learn than Japanese either in singing or speaking. For a language talent like Hayley, it won't be too hard Always, Fred |

Hi Fred, Thanks for your enlightening explanation! I will be uploading a High Definition version of "The Moon Represents..." later today, although we do of course already have a high quality version. The song and performance are growing on me and I wondered if you can write a few words about Shin, so we know who he is. I assume that he is a well known pop singer from Taiwan.. but please correct me if I am wrong! Meanwhile, I have produced the High Definition version of Hayley's "Amazing Grace" (already available in high quality) so here it is: Hayley - Amazing Grace in High Definition from HWI, 1280x720, 130MB, video 4mbps xvid, audio 320kbps .mp2. Richard Hi Richard, I hope the record company had the foresight to load the Taiwan shops with any and all the CD's they could lay their hands on. Do Taiwan do a chart? I am new here because of Hayley. She performed an excellent concert in Taiwan.
I really like Hayley singing the Chinese song "The Moon Represents My Heart" because I can speak fluent Mandarin. For her pronunciation in Mandarin, I would give her A even A+.
Why? In Taiwan, not everyone can pronounce Mandarin perfectly due to the Taiwanese (local dialogue). Hayley has the talent to learn different languages. If you can read Chinese, you will know there tons of Hayley's fans in Taiwan even in Asia (I believe). Please excuse my poor English skills. This is my "First" time to join an English forum. Now I am one of the Hayley's fans. Wish could see her face-to-face one day.

I'm very pleased to hear that you enjoyed Hayley's performance at the games. We were also very impressed with Hayley and Shin's version of "The Moon Represents My Heart" and it's good to hear that her Mandarin pronunciation was correct.
I'm sure Hayley would have taken her fist performance in Mandarin very seriously and practiced her pronunciation very carefully.
It's also good to hear that she has made a lot of new fans in Taiwan. You will find everything you need to know about Hayley here so, if you get lost, just ask and someone will help - we're a friendly bunch.

Welcome Hayleyfan88. I am glad you like Hayley. I could see on the TV that the audience in the stadium loved Hayley, especially when she sang in Chinese. You will find out a lot about Hayley on this website.
