Hayley's involvement in the opening ceremony has been confirmed by Bedlam Management. There is no truth in the rumour that she will also be entering the 1500 meters! Roger

I grew up an expat in Taiwan and lived there until I was 18... While Hayley is in the southern part of Taiwan she might as well visit the very southern tip - Olanbi... I don't know if she can ride a scooter or not, but its fun renting them there (in Kenting) and driving down to Olanbi (the very southern tip) then up the eastern coastal side a bit... beautiful beaches and rocks and mountains... as the road winds right above the beach... if you go a little ways up then you end up in these tiny little villages that are fun and out of the way. Us expats (missionary kids most of us) always loved that little town near the southern tip - its called Kenting... the Finnish missionaries even going as far as setting up a little guest house for themselves when they needed a break. The body boarding there is also fantastic when a typhoon is coming in haha Great to hear that she is visiting Taiwan though... I'm sure she won't let the Taiwan folk down They will absolutely love her cheers, Peter T.

Martin Hi Martin and Jillian, According to my copy of the Taipei Times it is "The Prayer" i.e. the big one as famously duetted by Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli and many others. This will be a performance to remember, we shall have to do everything possible to get a good quality recording of this. This may not be as easy as you might think as the World Games in Germany a few years ago had very limited TV distribution outside Germany, it wasn't on UK TV at all. But we still managed to record it, as we shall I am sure do this time, by hook or by crook! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI've modified the thread title to include the date of Hayley's performance, just so we don't forget. Cheers, Dave

'The Prayer'? Mmm... I remember Australian Idol runner up Anthony Callea did a cover of that and the radio played it non-stop. Hopefully I'll be able to block that out when I listen to Hayley and Russell sing.

I had failed to pick up the significance of the word 'The'. In fact I have a wonderful recording of it myelf by Natasha Marsh and Alfie Boe. Best wishes Martin

Hello everyone and calling all NZ members!!! The opening ceremony of The World Games is now just under seven days away and as we know, Hayley will be duetting "The Prayer" with Russell Watson. We simply MUST acquire a good quality recording of this performance to show to the World and I intend to upload it to HWI and HWI on YouTube as soon as humanly possible... but TV coverage outside Taiwan may be very limited. I am checking the UK and European TV schedules daily but so far, I have not seen the opening ceremony in the schedules. But it will be broadcast on NZ TV on Triangle and associated channel Stratos. In case it is not broadcast in Europe, does anyone in NZ who can receive the relevant channel(s) wish to volunteer to record it? Pretty please? The more the merrier and if necessary, if we can't receive it in UK/Europe, we can work out how to get it to me for edit and uploading, nearer the time. Full details from scoop.co.nz:: 7 days to go! Cheers, Dave

Thanks heaps for the information Dave! I've been waiting to hear what channel it is going to be broadcast on. I did read an article saying that the opening ceremony was going to be broadcast around most of the world...so maybe it will play in England? Unfortunately I don't have a working recorder of any kind...so I won't be much help to your cause... And I may be working next Friday... . I hope not..really wanted to see this live.

Hi Jon, Sorry to hear you can't help with this one... and that you'll be working! It's repeated on that other channel though too, on Saturday, so I hope you can receive that. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear in the UK TV schedules for any channel, and there are hundreds! Nor have I found it yet listed for any European channel, it's all very sad. Sooo... calling any other Kiwis this fine (I hope!) Sunday afternoon can you help? Oh... as a long-shot... Maya in Japan? Perhaps the opening ceremony will appear on Japanese TV? Everyone... H E L P !!! Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave, I've just sent an email to the TV Station Manager of Triangle. We'll see what happens. I've got friends in Auckland, they may be able to pick up the broadcast. Graeme
