There is a report today in Music Week that a new official UK "pure classical" chart is to be launched soon, it will first be published in the March issue of The Gramophone magazine (which could be out any day now!).
It will be interesting to see if this affects the naming of, or eligibility for, the existing official UK classical charts, including the Classic FM chart.
Here is the report:

The Official Charts Company has created a new classical music chart, the Official Specialist Classical Chart.
The chart has been designed to highlight repertoire that is 100% classical and has been released within the last two years.
This distinguishes it from the OCC’s Combined Classical Albums Chart, which only requires 60% of an album’s repertoire to be classical.
The new chart was developed by the OCC in collaboration with the BPI.
Ginny Cooper, who is managing director of Coda Distribution, and co-chair of The BPI’s Classical Committee, explains, “Within the classical sector, there are many first-class performers providing first-class recordings which were not registering on the chart radar as the crossover titles were obviously higher profile and selling more.
“We felt however, that they were just as valid and wanted to provide an outlet to enable the public to see that sales of pure classical music is still alive and well.”
The Official Specialist Classical Chart will be published for the first time in the March edition of Gramophone Magazine. It will then appear monthly in Gramophone and will be updated weekly on the Gramophone website.
The first album to top the chart is Gala Ensemble’s The Best Of Gilbert & Sullivan
