Average winter temperatures in Christchurch, New Zealand, Hayley's hometown, are lower than in London, and Christchurch gets more snow than London.
In Auckland snow would be rare, at the bottom of the South Island common. Of course there is snow on the mountains... Skiing is one of the major activities especially in the south Island... check NZ tourist sites or city sites on the web or google snow new zealand.

Heavy snow falls in Christchurch
Saturday, 09 August 2008
Several Christchurch and Banks Peninsula roads remain closed after snow began falling in the area early this morning.
A Christchurch City Council spokesman said care was needed on all roads in the area but that the Christchurch summit road was closed in three places and Okains Bay Road from Duvauchelle to Okains Bay, on Banks Peninsula, had closed.
Tony Stuart, who lives on the Cashmere Hills, said it was cold, white and Christchurch people were tired of winter.
"I have had a [censored] gutsful of the weather," he said.
In the North Island, snow closed Rimutaka Hill Road between Upper Hutt and Wairarapa this morning but it reopened about 1pm.
However, the MetService said snow showers were expected on the road until early tomorrow morning, with another 2-4cm likely before 6am.
Snow was also likely to fall on the Desert Road until early tomorrow, with up to 3cm expected.
In the South Island, snow was likely to fall on the Lewis and Porters Pass roads until this evening.
