The first half of 2005 is filling up quickly for Hayley!! She plans to return to Germany in March for another German tour. 20th March, she is due to perform at the first ever "Classicallive" event at London's Olympia. At the end of March, Hayley flies to Japan for 2 concerts with the Moscow Philharmonic: 29th March at the Tokyo Opera City 31st March at the Osaka Symphony Hall. In April, Hayley plans to continue her work as the youngest ever ambassador for UNICEF by going on her first ever field trip (for more information on UNICEF, go to www.unicef.org ). With all this going on, you wouldn't believe that Hayley is also going to start work on her second international album. The above is extracted from Hayley's official newsletter. You can sign up to receive it by visiting www.hayleywestenra.comOr by clicking on the banner, above. Keith.

I can add one more "possible" to the 2005 dates - the Classical Brits 2005 will be held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, on Wednesday 25th May.
I don't know if Hayley will be appearing there or not, but obviously, it's possible and I imagine that Hayley has kept the date clear. Either way, I'm hoping she will do *something* in the UK at the end of May or in June!

It's beginning to look like Hayley won''t be doing many public appearances in the UK in the first half of the year, perhaps a few one-offs. Though she'll be recording her new album here in Feb/March.
I'm expecting a big Hayley push in the second half of the year as the new album launch approaches - Decca will have that magic million UK sales to aim for and to stand a chance of getting there, it will take a *big* push with lots of TV appearances and a tour. At the moment, Hayley can't realistically expect to sell anywhere near a million anywhere else, so that would be my 2005 strategy for Hayley; it seems to fit what's been announced so far, anyway.

I hope there's an adequate push to elevate her profile here in the US prior to this tour. To sell out these venues she'll need plenty of exposure on national TV and radio.
Right now the teen soprano in the spotlight is Emmy Rossum who plays Christine in "Phantom of the Opera." She's making the rounds on all the top shows and is on the cover of Elle. Her sudden ascendancy might make things a little tricky for Hayley as far as booking the best TV appearances in the next few months.
I just hope they didn't miscalculate by sending Hayley back to America so soon.

I just hope they didn't miscalculate by sending Hayley back to America so soon. My thoughts exactly, Steve. Hayley's recent UK tour wasn't by any means a sell-out - although I don't think there was ever that "empty hall" feeling (Roger is the one to ask!) and even her Spring UK tour was sold out in many places quite in the day. Putting on a full-scale US tour before Hayley has achieved any substantial chart success in the US is taking a big risk, IMO. Decca need to be careful as well, at the launch of Hayley's new album. If she doesn't spend enough time in the UK (3 months, starting at least a month before its launch), the anticipated million seller (that she would have got with a well thought-out 2004 launch in the UK) could fizzle out into less than half of that - and there's no reason to think it will sell any better in the US, however much time Hayley spends there. Hayley's record company and her advisors need to do some *very* careful thinking about the rest of her 2005 itinerary... they didn't exactly get it right in 2004. However, a Merry Christmas and happy New Year to all of them and especially, to Hayley and all Hayley fans and family!

Hayley's recent UK tour wasn't by any means a sell-out - although I don't think there was ever that "empty hall" feeling (Roger is the one to ask!) and even her Spring UK tour was sold out in many places quite in the day. Indeed there wasn't Steve. The only figures I have are from the Symphony Hall in Birmingham which has a capacity of 2330. An hour prior to the concert, only about 1500 had been sold. I was assured that the majority of the unsold seats would be taken in those final minutes and that certainly proved to be the case. Throughout the rest of the tour, I saw empty sections of the auditorium at most venues but these were right at the very back of the circle, usually in the corners, and many of them probably had a restricted view. Nevertheless, it was nowhere near the rapid sell-out that we saw in March. Thankfully, as Dave has said, there was never that "empty hall" feeling. Merry Christmas to you all. Roger
