Hi Folks,
Just a quick post to let you know that the new video to The Water is Wide, is now out on Classic FM TV, I have seen it twice already this afternoon and on a 32" Wide screen TV it is awesome, for those of you with Sky TV this is on channel 359.
Happy hunting fellow Hayley Buffs !!
Best Wishes

Hi All
Thanks Steve, I will watch out for that. I am puzzled why, to date, they have only shown a "sawn off" version of the clip. They have to pay royalties for the video and I can only guess that because of Hayley's popularity, it is not cheap. some videos are repeated regularly every hour (the cheap ones???)
Does anyone have any info on this as I am curious as to why they have waited so long AFTER the release of the single to properly promote it. Maybe a special edition of Odyssey which includes some DVD clips is planned for the future in the UK.

Hi Stuart,
I am no expert on the subject of royalty payments but I doubt if Classic FM would have to pay every time a clip of a promo video is shown. If anything, it is likely to be the other way around whereby Decca, and therefore untimately Hayley, would have to pay Classic FM to promote their CD/DVDs.
As for the sawn offness (!) of clips, that is all that is really needed for promotional purposes. If they were to show it in full, many people would get to see it several times and may then decide they don't need to buy it. Leave them wanting more, I imagine, is the way to achieve their goal.
I certainly hope there would not be a THIRD release of Odyssey in the UK (or anywhere else for that matter). Even I would baulk at having to buy three versions of effectively the same thing.

Hi Roger,
Thanks for that. I'm still a bit confused as I know that generally, when a a video of a single is played on any of the "music channels" it is the same as any airplay - ie. the artist gets the royalties. ( I have a friend who is a professional session musician who gets paid every time the clip she appears on gets played on Classic FM.)
The video of the Water is Wide is not shown as an advert, but as a play, the same as the others. These channels get their money from their advertisement breaks.
They still play lots of clips of singles no longer available to buy so the artist must be getting the royalties for these.
On the Odyssey release, I am sure I read somewhere that a version is out in Europe which includes three DVD clips. I will have to investigate!

Hi Stuart,
Well, as I said, I am no expert on that side of things. To be honest, we don't really know the answer for sure. Hopefully in the days/weeks to come, someone will enlighten us both!
Btw, congratulations on you 100th post!
