Hello Thomas
Thank you for your excellent report. Glad to hear you navigated London's transport difficulties in time to get your train to Stanstead.

Hi Cathy, Thank you for sharing your wonderful pictures with us from the Concert!!! They're glowing... and really capture some lovely moments from the evening. I wonder if Jonathan would like to add a "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan tie to his collection? i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifAndrew

Hi Thomas, Thank you so much for sharing your excellent report with us from Bristol... Glad to hear you made up for your initial loss of time and that you had a fantastic day sharing the company of several others we know here... I'm sure you must have been delighted to find that CD player in your hotel room too! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifAndrew

At first blush that struck me as a gratuitous quibble. I mean, just because they're "classically trained" doesn't have to mean they've received extensive operatic coaching to produce loud vocals. It ought simply to mean that they've had schooling in classical music, which they obviously have.
But then, he has a good point. If the venue isn't an opera house, why the need for microphones?

Without wishing to seem egoistic, I did cover this in an earlier post but in which thread I cannot now imagine (possibly RoD or VT general threads) that on a tour of varying theatres in size and acoustics they can't assume they can manage without their sound team. Since the sound team are there anyway it would be silly not to use them. At the same time we have another introduction to how this concept of Hayley as an opera singer comes about. Her professionalism is streets away from the 'average singer' that the assumption is that it results from specific training, not that in fact she has a naturalistic approach now firmly supported by YEARS of experience. Just being herself she is simply CLASS from which many assumptions are wrongfully made. Peter S.

Peter,
Do you really think Hayley had no classical training? It is true that she is largely self-made for sure, she did not study for years at somewhere like the Royal Academy of Music or the Paris Conservatoire. But she did have tuition from one of the world's great singers, and I am certain that that has helped her a lot. And the motivation to reach her current standard I'm sure came from her, she was not pushed by teachers and choirmasters like some. One of the things that makes Haley unique and special is that she did it herself; the motivation was hers, and she was fortunate to have a family that supported her to the hilt. This means she has not been poured into a mould, she is as you say Peter, her own person and does things her own way. I find that refreshing and have enormous respect for her because of it.
Martin
