Wouldn't it be nice....
...if Hayley sang at Barack Obama's Inauguration Ceremony?
...if she landed a deal to perform a song at the Oscars?
...if every member of HWI had all of her songs ever recorded?
...if Hayley had an identical twin who could serve the US market while she goes about her business in the UK?
...if Hayley and two contemporaries formed "The Three Crossover Sopranos" group and had a hit show on PBS?
...if the healing properties in Hayley's voice were scientifically researched, which led to someone being awarded a Nobel Prize in Medicine?
...if Hannah Montana and Hayley Westenra switched places for a day so that kids would be exposed to real music for the first time in their lives?
...if "Hayley Sings Japanese Songs" were nominated for a Grammy -- and won?
...if an exact replica of her family's house in Christchurch were built in London so she would never be homesick again?

...if an exact replica of her family's house in Christchurch were built in London so she would never be homesick again? Yea, but you need to make clones of Hayley's family (or maybe neighbours) too in that case; a mere house is not enough... Tin

Wouldn't it be nice.... [snips] ... if Hayley did a concert tour with some well known male singer of similar genre and status, adding value and media interest to both their careers? Oh.... Dave

Hi everyone, that for Hayley would be nice. But but but, where would you create the wide open spaces that Hayley refers to in the City of London? You have a major problem...................eh? sweet dreams Rodders, with wide open spaces less than ten mins drive from my place. Sheep,Cattle, crops growing, snow on the hills, yep that does us. We don't have to dream to appreciate it,we have it right here in NZ. cheers all, Rodders CH CH NZ

Here are my repsonses in bold: Wouldn't it be nice.... ...if Hayley sang at Barack Obama's Inauguration Ceremony? No, not really. How about at the inauguration of the next NZ prime minister?...if she landed a deal to perform a song at the Oscars? Yes, and hopefully it'll be the theme song for one of the upcoming Hobbit movies!...if every member of HWI had all of her songs ever recorded? Yes! It would help if Decca would shape up and stop with their "version" nonsense!...if Hayley had an identical twin who could serve the US market while she goes about her business in the UK? Um, no....if Hayley and two contemporaries formed "The Three Crossover Sopranos" group and had a hit show on PBS? No, just Hayley, please....if the healing properties in Hayley's voice were scientifically researched, which led to someone being awarded a Nobel Prize in Medicine? It's already been studied that Hayley's voice was the most calming. ...if Hannah Montana and Hayley Westenra switched places for a day so that kids would be exposed to real music for the first time in their lives? I'm not sure Hannah Montana (who doesn't even exist) would go over well with the usual set at Hayley's concert's! ...if "Hayley Sings Japanese Songs" were nominated for a Grammy -- and won? Yeah, right. Her main albums would be more likely, since they have U.S. releases. But if she can't even win a Classical Brit, how could she win a Grammy? ...if an exact replica of her family's house in Christchurch were built in London so she would never be homesick again? She probably misses more than just the house itself. How about she could record in NZ and still be famous? I still don't quite get why that's not possible. What would be nice would be a "River of Dreams" DVD, a tour in the U.S., and a few TV show appearances here, too. And sing for more major movie soundtracks, including the Hobbit movies.

How about she could record in NZ and still be famous? I still don't quite get why that's not possible. [/b] [/quote] Hi Libby, Because New Zealand is much smaller than the UK in terms of population, any record deal is likely to have been reduced by a similar proportion (approximately 1:15). That would have resulted in insufficient funds to promote her work worldwide. She would therefore have only been promoted in New Zealand and, perhaps, Australia and the rest of the world are unlikely to have heard of her. If she wanted to be an international artist, she therefore had no choice but to accept the London deal. Okay, it could equally have been New York or one elsewhere but it was Decca in London who made the offer. She couldn't risk turning it down in the hope that a better deal would materialize (which it probably wouldn't have done for many years, if ever). Roger

I wouldn't mind if she moved to the US? Even New York isn't too far!

Hi Libby,
I couldn't agree more about the ROD DVD. There ought to be one, I'm sure it would sell. I could even have tried to make one myself if I had been a bit braver on Wednesday. I had the equipment to do it, but was just a bit too visible.

But if she can't even win a Classical Brit, how could she win a Grammy?I am not totaly sure about this, but I think she already won one or two Japanese Grammys! I would love to see Hayley receive a Grammy, even though these days anyone could win a Grammy, look at Amy Winehouse, for instance, who won five Grammys, and what is so big about her? As a singer or even as a person? Do you know that in the "concert" she gave here in Rock in Rio Lisbon 2008, she was completely drunk and stoned in front of 90 000 people, a total disaster, and to think about that many younger people enjoyed that sad show! The voice of the century they say! How is this possible? The world is totally wrong! I say, people that awarded Amy with so many Grammys, ever will be able to recognize the true talent of Hayley Westenra? At least, I applaud the U.S.A. for not allow entering the country such a bad example! What would be nice would be a "River of Dreams" DVD, a tour in the U.S., and a few TV show appearances here, too. And sing for more major movie soundtracks, including the Hobbit movies. Let's hope for the coming years!

Hi Paulo,
Amy's music is of a different kind, and even I have to admit she is a talented singer. But also a tragic case, ravaged by drink and drugs. I feel very sorry for her, and equally disgusted that her lifestyle gets her into the papers much more than the at least equally talented but clean living Hayley. Many singers who are not fit even to lick Hayley's boots get media coverage ahead of her because they are drunkards or drug abusers. Others, who can't even sing in tune sell more records than Hayley.
Whoever said that life is far?

Thanks for explaining, Roger. I think it makes sense now. Maybe someday when her contract with Decca expires, if she has any interest in ever making it in the U.S., maybe she should try a record company in the U.S. But does she have to be offered, or can she request it? If she ever does want to try the U.S., I think David Foster would be a good person to work with. Didn't he work with Andrea Bocelli, and he's not American. He's worked with lots of other famous singers, like Josh Groban, Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston... Then maybe the duet with Josh would be more likely to happen! Even if she doesn't try recording here, I hope she will at least find a better record company that won't do the stupid "version" stuff. Doesn't she realize how frustrating, annoying, and expensive it can be to buy her albums, in order to get all of her songs? She should either get them to stop doing that, or find someone who won't (at least not as much).

Hello everybody.
We don't need any discussion about Amy Winehouse and/or drug abuse on this forum, thank you, so I'm locking this thread.
