Thank you Martin, but don't miss the previous programme called 'Legends' which is the first of the three that we saw yesterday and, perhaps, the most interesting. BBC4 at 8pm. I may even watch it again! Roger

Here is another bit from Nana Mouskouri's book Memoirs. (A great read)
It's hard to copy and paste from a paperback book, makes the keyboard all GUI, so I'll just have to type it
About the damp Irish weather. Chapter 18 Talking to Jim Aiken on TV in 1971 after cancelling her tour due to influenza.
...............................................................................................................
And then of course we discussed my influenza. I explained that I was used to Greece's dry sunny climate, and that I suffered badly in Ireland, as I did in England, from the awful damp that seeped in everywhere, Including I said through doors and windows. I wished I could swallow those words when I returned to my hotel ! I was amazed . The window in my room had been tightly padded, two small space-heaters installed and a hot water bottle slipped between my sheets... And sitting on the bedside table was a steaming pot of tea complete with honey and lemon slices - exactly as I had just prescribed on TV when asked what I did to take care of my throat. All that kindness and loving care only strengthened my determination to come back. And so , in early spring 1972, The Athenians and I were back in Ireland. I was happy to see Jim Aiken again : he was a man in a million, infatuated with artists and performers, and quite capable of spending the night gluing posters to walls if he felt the publicity people hadn't done their job..........

Hi Graham, Rodders, Paul and anyone else who is looking at this thread. I remember seeing many of Nana Mouskouri’s programmes in the 60s although it wasn’t exactly out of choice. Back in those days, we only had two channels and it was a marginally better prospect that Coronation Street so I regularly tuned in. Despite my limited enthusiasm, every week without exception, I found myself really enjoying it. Nevertheless, seven days later, it was always the same. Not keen - may as well try it anyway – loved it. When her final series ended, it was quite rare to see her on British television but, on those few occasions that she made an appearance, it was always the same. My interest in seeing her was low but I watched anyway and always liked it. I have never quite understood that. If I think about something for long enough, Sure enough I will come up with a theory.. Some might say "I'm full of it......." Peer pressure and bullying is my theory. I am guessing you were a teenager in school at the time. If I have the approximate decade right "The Lads" at school were probably listening to : Status Quo Led Zeplin Deep Purple Black Sabbath David Bowie and maybe just maybe, you might get away with saying you thought Suzi Quatro was cool, she was rockin' Nobody wants to be excluded from their mates group or circle at school. So we pretend to like what they like. So I doubt you could say you liked Abba, It was alright for girls to like Abba. But if you told your mates you "Deliberately" watched Nana Mouskouri The laughter would still be echoing around space to-day. Now that would be their own insecurity showing. They would strut about with their "Rock" albums under their arms, like a badge of honour. I often wonder about our younger members here, Nothing much has changed, kids will always be kids, I doubt to many can go into school and say, Yeh ! Hey ! I'm really into Hayley Westenra and I think the Gorillaz are brutal. but It's just a theory and maybe I am full of it..

Well, I am 19 now and discovered Hayley few months ago, so I couldn't scream to the world how adorable she is when I was at school... Now, at the university I do it, even more, iif I don't slow down a little, my friends will just get tired of it, XD... And, yeah, in univeersity it is a little different, people are more mature and respect eachothers tastes... LOL, one of my mates there, not a very close friend, but a nice guy, when I showed him one of Hayley's song, he said "Oh, I can't listen to that, my life is too sad to listen to such a beautiful music, I need something more heavy to cheer me up and keep me alive",, We all laughed at that answer, but not in a bad way-
But, anyway, I've been truly loving classical music since I was 13-14 and never hid it... And, yes, few people lauged at it, but I didn't really care about it.

Ahhhhh this is the thread I was looking for. When an artist has released over 450 albums, you can rest assured it will take a while to get them all. I am still adding to my Nana Mouskouri collection, got this one recently, a bit extravagant price wise but worth every cent. Nana Mouskouri Les 100-Plus Belles ChansonsThis is a compilation 5 disc set in a tin, it runs ever so pleasantly on the ear with songs from every decade of her career Except the 1950s where she only had a small number of recordings. Most of Nana's songs are covers of other people's work, often better in my opinion than some of the original performers versions Nana was recording before I was born, I have probably been listening to her all my life, apparently (Pun Intended) my mother used to park my pram in front of the radiogram to shut me up. That would have been when I was a baby, not recently you understand

I wish I could say I went to Tower records today to get Hayley's new album, but I can't. I went to Tower Records today to get Nana Mouskouri's new album Forever Young 2018 (Mercury / Universal 672623-1) I saw it online yesterday and thought "not another compilation of old recordings" But it's not, they are new recordings. She has finally recorded Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, she also recorded some of his early songs, they have Greece in common, I think there is a picture of Nana and Leonard together in the Nana Mouskouri final tour brochure. I saw Nana on he final concert tour a few years back, I thought she had retired completely, born in 1934 and she is still recording. I also got another cd of Nana Mouskouri, tracks from 1959 - 1962 Athens Berlin Paris New York. This is a 2018 Jasmine Records Compilation with 28 tracks JASCD 993, some of them are early versions of her more famous songs, good recordings and her voice is lovely on them. It is something else to have two albums in the cd player sixty years apart by the same singer, still recognisably the same beautiful warm voice. Discogs says Nana Mouskouri has released 139 albumsso I have a few more to go while I wait for the White Rose to bloom again.

Cheers Martin I seem to have that date in my diary already Must have booked it a while ago Good for you John, I always knew you had good taste in music. Nana's concert is just a couple of days after Cliff's birthday concert in the Royal Albert Hall. I wonder are they going to guest on each others shows ?

I won't be going to the concert in London, but wishing all of you who do a wonderful evening. I treated myself to a bundle of Nana Mouskouri memorabilia on E Bbay instead, a boxed set of Nana's LPs in beautiful condition and several concert tour programmes from the 1970's including a couple of signed ones. Obviously somone's treasured collection.
I doubt it was the collector that sold them, makes you wonder what might become of one's own collection of memoribilia in time.
Mireille Mathieu also did an album with Ennio Morricone that I have become quite fond of.
Just love these two voices together in this one.

Live at the Royal Albert Hall 17th May 1974This was a Readers Digest 7 lp box set made from Philips recordings, presumably originally planned as a 6 lp set, there is no mention on the outside of the box that it also contained Nana Live from the Royal Albert Hall May 17th 1974, they must have decided to include it with the six lps as an afterthought. The recording of 12 songs seems to be unique to the Readers Digest, I thought when I saw it, Oh, I'll just get that on a cd somewhere, I was amazed to find that the recordings did not appear anywhere else except on this lp. Who would have thought of the Readers Digest being the ones to preserve and release a unique concert recording. The batch of records that I mentioned in my previous post also included Concert programmes from Nana's world tours of 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1988 a couple of the 70s ones were signed, one by the whole band and Nana herself. But the Jewel in the Crown was the live recording which I have happily spent a day cleaning and playing, magic, she was only forty years old then and sounded wonderful.
