Hi Martin I think what Peter is trying to say in his post, is that he doesn't want to credit Hayley as having one of the worlds greatest voices until she reaches her peak. Whilst I understand his viewpoint, I don't see why that precludes her from having one of the world's greatest voices now! To me she always has had, despite the fact that her voice is maturing and just gets better and mind blowingly better every time I hear her. I find it very hard to listen to anyone else for any length of time. A day without Hayley music is a very sad day indeed! Best wishes Grant

Hi Tin While I was hanging around in the Internet just now I went to the HMV Hong Kong website and made a search on Hayley (which I occasionally do to check how updated my local HMV is). And I found this album which wasn't there a few days ago: www.hmv.com.hk/product/classical.asp?sku=284440A version of River of Dreams which will be released on 9th January and sold at a much lower price. My wonder is, isn't RoD supposed to be an UK (& NZ) release? How is it possible that Decca Hong Kong can release a version on its own? By the way, I'd like to say 'happy new year' to every member here. Tin I've just had another look at the link you gave. The catalogue number quoted is the same as that on the UK release so it will be interesting to see if there are any changes to artwork or track listing. Best wishes Grant

Perhaps I should define my paramaters. I do not think I have sufficient knowledge to define 'perfection'. My late sister and my brother-in-law's second wife are both teachers of school singing, at a lower teaching level than would presume to offer someone of Hayley's stature advice on the use of her voice, although they might criticise an interpretation of a phrase and be able to debate with her aspects of technique! By association I have an awareness of the sort of detail that lies behind the use of the voice. By stating that I cannot hear anyone else of Hayley's age sing without feeling disappointed, I have covered the angle of Hayley's standing head and shoulders above them all. I do not see a contradiction. Hers is without doubt a great voice. With Dame Malvina, I am hearing the accomplishment of someone in full command of their art and using a matured and proven instrumment. I see her in the company not just of today but of history. Callas comes to mind. Let me develop two aspects I have just introduced in the paragraph above. With 'Instrument'.I think of Chris Garrick and his Jazz. I do not enjoy Jazz but I am prepared to listen to it when someone like him is playing as I respect his sheer mastery of the instrument. In the same way I do not like the Caccini 'Ave Maria' but love Hayley singing it because I respect the way she is using her voice to achieve the vocal sound she does. Dave Ponsford is of the Lang Lang class of keyboard mastery. I learned that Al Gurr was once Ponsford's pupil. Knowing this it is difficult for me to be certain in my next observation but I feel I had noticed a difference between Ian Tilley's playing and Al Gurr's, especially when they do solo work. I will say no more as this enters upon delicate ground. My second point was historical context, which is complex. There are many to whom Callas never appealed because they do not like opera. The same applies to Kiri. I recently observed my dislike of Katherine Jenkins' development of an 'operatic' voice. As my Canadian friend said, who was once married to a would-be opera singer, 'Why should anyone want to sing opera, it completely wrecks the voice?!' It may well be because of the operatic technique required that Hayley will never touch pure opera. Her voice is unique without formal training. Formal training for what? This, I believe is her current dilemma, to where and for what purpose does she take this developing and maturing voice? There, I rest my case. Hayley's is a great voice in developement and for her I will do what I never did for Callas (and regret not doing so) expend the extravagance of hearing her live. That time will come for Hayley and if i am there I know I will dissolve into tears, as memories of the years I followed her, from the moment of my first discovery as I drove up the M1, listening to Classic fm, roll over me. Peter S.

Hi Sing, I think the video that you saw it's in Chinese not Japanese. HMV Japan has for sale "River of Dreams" as an import from Europe. HMV Hong Kong has just released a "local" version on the 9th, they also have the album as an import. I think it's that version that it's being advertised on the video. Best wishes, Paulo Correia

Hello everybody! HMV's instore price for 'River of Dreams' seems to vary considerably, but the branches in London's Oxford Street are currently selling it at £7.99. If you're looking for that birthday gift... Richard

Hi guys, I've grown very skeptical of the statement that RoD is only to be released in the UK and NZ because I can see a Hong Kong version of RoD in every major CD shop now. Even a promo in Cantonese is playing every night in our local English TV channel! Tin

Hi Sandy Hey grant all sorted have just ordered LFNZ and river of dreams, cool wwoooopy Taa heaps Sandy Happy to help! You will enjoy the DVD especially, the concert is brilliant, even though Hayley was only 17 when it was recorded. There's also lots of extras including a 'behind the scenes' video with all the family and a recording of "I Dreamed A Dream" when Hayley was 14. Incidentally, which version of River of Dreams have you ordered? The New Zealand one has more on it than the UK version - should have said - sorry! Best wishes Grant

Hi Larry,
Don't you have to see her perform live to achieve that state?
