I think Johnathan's a good singer. My favourite song of his is the duet with Hayley- Un Giorno Per Noi! Actually, it is the only song of his I have heard. I'll have to listen to more, but I like what I've heard so far!

I think Jonathan Ansell is a great singer...his album Tenor at the Movies is one of my favourite albums and I can't wait for his next album, forever, to be released in October and the duet with Hayley is absolutely brilliant...!....

G4 singer Jonathan Ansell

Jonathan Ansell's greatest possession is his lyric tenor voice, which he protects with... abuse.

Ansell has one of the best sets of vocal cords in the country, and most singers in his position would take all manner of precautions.

But not him.

'I'm not one of those fussy singers who won't be in a car with air conditioning, eat dairy products or go out drinking,' Jonathan told me, adding that he hasn't the usual tenor temperament of throwing a wobbly if he stands near a smoker.

'I treat my voice with respect, but I also give it a level of abuse, so that it's actually resilient as well,' he said.

'If I'm slightly under the weather I can still perform well. Whereas, if I'd been wrapped in cotton wool and something happened I'd get paranoid. I've trained my voice to deal with the bugs and the smoke and everything else.'

I talked to Ansell just as his career is moving way up the ladder.

On Monday, he opens at Richmond Theatre, playing Nanki-Poo in a touring production of The Mikado.

On September 14 he's one of many stars taking part in Andrew Lloyd Webber's birthday concert in Hyde Park, broadcast on Radio 2.

I saw him perform in a similar gig in tribute to lyricist Don Black at the Palladium.

I had seen Ansell on TV during his G4 days, but never live (he did a duet of Black's Amigos Para Siempre) with Hayley Westenra.

He clearly has the looks, voice and appeal to be a huge crossover artist. He confirms this with his new album, Forever, out on November 10. Also in November, he begins a concert tour called A Night At The Opera.

Ansell sems to be popping up everywhere.

Last weekend he was at Wembley singing Heart Of England before the Rugby League World Cup.

His dad used to play and so did Jonathan, though he can't risk the scrum now. 'I'd be crushed!' he joked.

The same thought crossed my mind also, though I don't think Hayley is anywhere near as 'fussy' as she might have been in the past, and working together, I would hope Jonathan knows that.

I would think if Hayley was going to do a duet album the word would be out about it? In

reading the threads on this forum it seems that her management keeps the forum up to

date about what is coming up.....

Hi All,

Jonathan and Connie Talbot have just won £50,000 on Celebrity "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" for their chosen charities. Jonathan was playing for a Breast Cancer Charity, and Connie for "Theatre MAD" MAD=Makes A Difference.

They both came across as lovely people!
