Hi guys,
Now we've heard better recordings of the event, I have to say that Hayley did very well. It's quite unreasonable to compare her live performance in that situation in a one-off song, with her album - and as Jon mentioned a while ago, it would have made a very nice opener as the first song in a concert, during which I have no doubt that Hayley would have got even better as she warmed up.
Also, the audio quality of the recordings is very important indeed for Hayley to be heard at her best - much more important than it is for most other singers. Why this is might be a topic for a thread all of its own so I won't pursue it here.
Cheers, Dave

Compare and contrast. HDW without choir from somebody called rosegrower (at another recent event - where the doors were locked)! Equally StunningJust like that red light! For 'equally stunning' read 'far superior'. Paddy

The audio on that clip was far superior to the audio caried on my PBS station here. I wonder if the audio we are complaining about has to do with surround mix on the HD PBS feed??? I wonder how many of us complainers were watching the HD feed and not the standard. BTW I was not running my surround system only the TV's built in audio. Even the You Tube audio on my bad laptop speakers was a lot better.

A better quality recording, both picture and sound, . No break of sound at 1.29 mins. Link to Youtube post below.........
HEREThanks Graham, To my ears and eyes, this version is the only one with no serious audio or video distortion, therefore, I think it is the best version I've seen to date and it's well worth repeating here. Compare the way Hayley pronounces "Missouri" with the way she pronounces it in her original recording of it - here is the Official Classics and Jazz UK promo video on YouTube, of Shenandoah, One Fine Day and E Pari Ra. What happened to her NZ pronunciation of "Missouri"? I have to say that I am feeling a lot happier now about Hayley's performance on the 4th - the technical sound quality is so important with these live events. Cheers, Dave

Hi everyone! My entire family was out of the house on Friday night so no one was able to tape the show. That's okay because I've seen it here now I just wanted to say that when I was 12 my school performed Shenandoah at our Christmas show. I was asked to sing the melody and my class would sing the harmonies - much like the choir did here. It sounds as if it shouldn't fit and almost doesn't fit, but that is just the way the arrangement is. I really enjoyed the performance. Well-done Hayley. <3 Caitlin

After hearing the better YouTube clip of this performance I will take back my complaint about any shrillness and stridency. She sounded great! I now know it was due to some issues with the broadcast, not her voice.

Looks like Hayley's magic worked: Hi Paddy, With the small print I missed this yesterday. As others may have done likewise I have re-cycled it and enlarged what I think are the important bits. Thanks for finding this. Graham

Hello Graham and everybody! I agree that was a great comment, so I've now enlarged the text in Paddy's original post. Richard

What happened to her NZ pronunciation of "Missouri"? Now if she can only work on the word "year"... If I didnt already know the lyrics I would still be asking "seven long what. Perhaps her accent is simply fading, but it almost sounds to me as though she has been making an effort to reduce it - at least for some songs at some times. Listening to "Bless Me With Wings" for example, I am not sure I can detect much of an accent at all - to these American ears, her enunciation is crystal clear. Jon

Hi Jon, Why, I find the lady's Kiwi accent interesting and pleasantly amusing every time I hear her sing/ talk. She should definitely retain some of that accent, if not all. Tin

Hi Jon, Why, I find the lady's Kiwi accent interesting and pleasantly amusing every time I hear her sing/ talk. She should definitely retain some of that accent, if not all. Tin Hi Tin, Many singers try to acquire the skill of being able to sing in different accents - for example while I am no judge of this, Hayley is probably trying to make her Japanese sound... well....as Japanese as possible. As far as her speaking voice is concerned, my impression is that as time has passed she sounds more and more British and less and less Kiwi - and there may not be a lot she can do about that. We now return you to your regularly scheduled topic Jon
