I actually emailed TV3 about this. It seems to me a monumental coup for Hayley. The point that interests me is whether this means that Hayley is going to eclipse some other singer or other, old whatshername... Snotti Te Kovertous's record audience for a New Zealand singer. I suppose I should be more gracious than that. I believe the biggest audience a New Zealand singer has ever had was Dame Kiri Te Kanawa's 6 million odd who watched Di and Prince Charle's Wedding. I think this will have a bigger audience.
I suspect the anthem may be sung by the Afro-American woman opera singer who will be there because she's American. If Vittorio is there he and Hayley may do something from West Side Story again, perhaps...
As I understand it, it is open to the public.

Sorry about the double post, I think I know what causes it. It looks as though the female opera singer may not be available and has been replaced by Vittorio. This makes Hayley's chance of singing the anthem greater.

Hi Stuartj, That's an interesting thought, I hope you are right. It would be an immense honor for Hayley to be allowed to sing the US national anthem for such a special occasion. It's not everyday that officials trust you enough to sing another country's anthem. Sorry about the double post. The second post is now deleted. Stephany

This is so exciting! Is it likely that the concert will be available on DVD?

I wonder what Hayley will be singing at this concert. She has sung the National Anthem for a Nascar race before. However its page on the HWI website has gone missing. I still have the audio, so Dave and I will work to get this clip back up. Here is Hayley singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the NASCAR race... click HERE , then click the download button. Dave, you are welcome to use this file for the website. I would certainly love to attend this event in Washington DC. But time will tell. Joe Hi Joe I would be so very pleased for you if you were able to go along I know that the states is a big place to get around but I really hope that you can find a way Best regards Mark

This is so exciting! Is it likely that the concert will be available on DVD? Hi Oksana, Last year's "Capitol Forth" concert was not available on DVD so I doubt this one will be. But we never know! Stephany

Take care Mark I don't want to put pressure on anybody, but have any of you folks across the pond got a camcorder. Or even a video recorder. We would love to see Hayley's performance here. BTW my typing of this post has just been interrupted by a telephone call from New Zealand. But don't get tooexcited, it was from a colleague of mine working on the airport at Auckland! Martin

I don't want to put pressure on anybody, but have any of you folks across the pond got a camcorder? Hi Martin, Go on, admit it; you do really! Unfortunately, if this event is being recorded for PBS, the camera police are likely to be even more vigilant than usual. Even if one of our members is able to capture any of the performance, I don't think we dare post it here until the pledge period is finished. I suspect our best hope would be for a DVD release but an earlier post suggests that won't necessarily happen. I guess we will just have to live in hope that a way is found whereby we can all see Hayley's performance even if we cannot see the whole event. Roger

Well, there is a way, one of us could tape the show off PBS and send it to you folks.

I could turn my computer's built in video camera directly at the TV screen and record Hayley's piece as it happens, then promptly upload the file to YouTube. The sound will be tinny, but at least you'll see her.

Hi guys, We are getting some imaginative suggestions here, and we still have a month or two to figure out the best way to do this thing so keep 'em coming! I'll put my thinking cap on too! I just knew Hayley would be back in the US before too long... I felt it in my bones... great stuff - and let there be more! Cheers, Dave
