Hi Northern Lights,
I can't say I have a favourite because there are many that I have never tried. When I bought this computer, IE6 was pre-installed. That is what I had on the old one and so I was used to it (I don't like change!). I am reluctant to upgrade it to Version 7 or to change to anything else on the basis that you don't try to mend something if it ain't broken. I have Mozella Firefox as a backup but I very rarely use it.

I've never heard of IE6, but on this computer I have Opera, Mozilla, and Firefox. I also know Starfire, Safari, Internet Explorer (is that what IE stands for??) Netscape, and Konquer.

Hi Northern Lights! 'IE' does stand for 'Internet Explorer'. I use Internet Explorer 7 and find no problems with it. It seems to suit 'Windows XP'. Many say 'Firefox' is the best. I've never tried it, though. As Roger said: 'If it's not broken .... ' Paddy

I have used them all and for ease of use on a windows platform firefox is the way to go. I use IE for work things because the world of business is old windows based and the stuff only will work on IE. The only problem I have with this site is the JAVA which won't play nice with Vista.
Monte P.S. Northern I am guessing that you are Mac based not knowing about IE. Java would always work better on a Mac as it is integrated into the operating system.

Nope, I use a PC, and have (but don't use often) Windows 98, where I have never used IE but Netscape. (my Dad's request) Because of my dad, we now mainly use Linux on our 4+ desktops and 1 laptop. You can get Linux for free at is offical site, aka this link

www.linux.org/dist/list.html is where you can decide which distribution to use. All English ones are listed. As for Firefox being the best, I prefer Opera, but Firefox is great (takes some getting used to though)

I use linux for some of my servers as for desktops, many of the programs that I use require windows and do not have linux versions. In the early version of the web I did web design and tested many browsers as I had to view my websites in many different to get a consistent look.
That was before standards were in place, there are still some differences between them even now as they all implement the standards differently.

Hi Northern Lights
I had always used Internet Explorer until Windows automatic updates upgraded it to version 7. Then I started to have problems with many websites freezing, crashing or the browser just closing.
So I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and have been using it since, and it is something that I should have done years ago, the layout is simple, it is quicker and in my opinion much easier to use.
I haven't had a single problem or crash since I started using it and I also find that since I have been using Firefox, Adaware has picked up considerably less spyware too.

I haven't had a single problem or crash since I started using it and I also find that since I have been using Firefox, Adaware has picked up considerably less spyware too. Dazza Started this post once and managed to lose it--perhaps a benefit as this will be a a very truncated version! It is due to typing too fast miskeying and it all disappeared unable to be found--and not posted inadvertently. Your comment is interesting in that I have recently been having problems entering one or two sites. I had put this down to having recently been caught by a virus due to having lowered my firewall for a specific purpose and then been caught by something sitting on an 'Ask,com' sub-page. I had therefore attributed my problems to some damage incurred then. I had been meaning to obtain Firefox for a view of web pages I create as I work only for the various editions of IE and Netscape whose anomolies I usually ignore anyway. On statistics from my web sites about 1% use Firefox, 3% netscape and 1% (presumably moonlighting on their office terminals) Sun, most using a variant of Windows for a platform about 3% using Macs. One of the web hosters suggested using Firefox and it seems to achive what IE7.0 had suddenly not allowed me to achieve. Other sites work perfectly all right anyway wirh IE7.0. It may mean I have to take out and re-install IE7.0 and my version of Firefox is 1.5. I now learn there is a version 2.0! For the moment I am sticking before I update Firefox in case that adds problems and see how things go. For the moment, especially with the perceived advantages of Firefox 2.0 I too am impressed with Firefox. Peter S.

I have Firefox 2.0, and right now I have Opera and Firefox open. They're different and have good and bad sides, but Firefox dies a LOT more than Opera does (actually, while I'm downloading the Wisconsin 04 Video, it's dead at 14 percent downloaded. Oh well. Let me try Mozzila! (Yes they are different)

I haven't used Netscape since the summer! I'll be using IE today at school, and then Opera again at home(its what I'm using now). On our other computers, sometimes I use Firefox. One computer has a lot of browsers! (at least two more than this one has)

I totally agree, Opera is a pretty good browser in my opinion and that's why I use it. I was reading an identity theft article, and it mentionted that IE was the most targeted for spyware, and the article recommended Firefox and Opera. I do like opera (music) but I didn't think there would actually be a browser called that hehe I believe it's also the required browser for internet on the Nintendo Wii game console. I would always have problems with IE, back in the days...it would always do some "not responding" trick then just shut down...Opera never shuts down on me, and I didn't notice but HWI does indeed download faster.
