I sometimes dabble in poetry from time to time. Would anyone like to see any of my poems?

Hi kiernankate, Sure we would. How about you post one or two and see what reaction you get. You never know, it might become a popular thread. Roger

thank you Roger.
Here is one I wrote just this last Friday, before my dad took me to a football game.
Don't Want to Be Alone
I walk this lonely road Trying to understand why Everything is all wrong
I'm trying to find my way A place where I belong Where I can be me and be free
Please can't anyone see me Standing here all alone I can't breathe It hurts so much
I need someone to hold me Tell me everything is alright That I'll be okay
Who wants to hurt anyway? I want to be free I need to feel Like I can fly
I can do anything If I just believe
I won't be alone Anymore

This is a poem I just wrote about the many women, children and men who lost their lives September 11th, 2001.
Your lives were taken so tragically That fateful September day But we who are still alive Will never forget
You are the innocent Whose only error Was to be caught in the middle Of an attack on American soil
They tried to hurt They tried to ruin Everything that makes up The Brave and great nation Of the United States of America
They will never succeed
Buildings may be gone Pride still remains
In America's heart And we say to the dead
Rest in Peace Innocent ones
You shall never be forgotten

Hi Kiernankate! I've read both of your poems, and I think they're very well written and heartfelt. You have a very nice style. Thank you for sharing them! I hope this gets to be a popular thread, since I, like you, "dabble" in poetry every once in a while. I'll post a bit of mine later if I have time, but meanwhile I'd love to read more from you (and other HWI members!) Oksy

Thank you so much Oksana. Here is another one for you, and everyone else to read.
Safe
I am safe You are here To lead me home
Where I am from Home is where I belong There are no tears Or hurts There
I need to be safe To feel like I can just be me
Without anyone thinking I'm not worthy to be alive
Name Calling and Bullying Really do hurt
That is why you are here To take me home
To where I will be safe

Freedom of an Eagle
Eagles soar So wild So free
What I wouldn't give To fly amongst them
To feel the summer's warm breeze As I swooped and I flew
Through trees and over rolling hills Calling to everyone as I went
Being free would be so grand I would never want to be anywhere else
But up in the sky Flying towards the sunset
So brave And so free

Seasons
Seasons change through the course of time Summer turns to Fall, Winter to spring
These are not the only changes that occur in life
Sometimes, where you can not even see it The people you hold most dear Change too
Sometimes for the better Sometimes not
But change is part of life
People get older Wiser through the years Taking time to realize And cherish The wonderous possibilities What wonderful things There are in this world
Through your golden years You slow down a bit Taking time to unwind
From the hectic life you have lead For so long
Now is the time you hold most dear Time is precious
Relaxing by the fire, spending time with family These events should never Be taken lightly
But be cherished and valued
It doesn't matter How much money you made How many promotions you got
What truly matters is family And good friends
Experiences you can take with you Memories to look back on with a smile
It's not the material goods you have But the people you've met The friendships you've created
Don't take them lightly Hold them dear to your heart
It is not what you have But really Who you've met

last one for today......
Rain Must Fall The rain must fall Tear must flow Calling me to ponder Why
Why we all hurt sometimes And why We care
We lose loved ones Become cold and alone
Why?
I believe People just don't know How to care How to believe
There can be goodness in life And in others
We must fully be made aware That all our hurts All our sorrows
May one day Disappear
One day the sun will shine There will be laughter And smiles
That is when we will know
The rain must fall Before the sun can shine

Hi Kiernankate! Your latest writes are beautiful. I especially like the last one .. I love how you take something like rain and tie it into a different theme (sadness and life). Also, I can definitely relate to some of the poems you posted... that's important for a reader. Here's a really old one. Originally written when I was 13, and rewritten this year. (I had felt completely uninspired and given up on poetry for the two years in between, but thank God I'm back on track now, because it's a really important outlet for me). Give Me A Sunrise“give me a sunrise, please. a spring sunrise, to watch daisies and pansies climb from beneath the sleepy dew. to hear birds twitter morning into newborn birches, and to look at the blue hills cradling the sun. or a summer daybreak, sir, if you please. to feel the air gather salt as a peaceful sea awakens to the cry of gulls. or, sir, let me rise to a golden autumn morn, if you have one of those. to feel the shadow of frost give way to the light, and to run out in the pink-tinged pasture towards the harvest. or, sir, give me a winter dawn, I would like that too. to see the sharp kiss of the sun reflect in every icy branch, so bright it makes me close my eyes again. so, sir, please give me a sunrise. you’ve one in your pocket.”

....And a more recent one. See if you can guess what this one's about. (Shouldn't be too hard).
She
She saw his outline through the tulle, He thought he saw her smile. Her sleeves were white, Her bodice tight, She glowed with charm and style.
A slender, graceful mannequin Who hid her burning heart within The tiers of silk and rows of lace; Two high-heeled shoes, One beaming face.

And (last one for now), a piece I wrote today:
Letters
dusty letter-boxes, open love notes in the filmy half-light
valentines and dry, forgotten roses faintly fragrant of the days gone by.
two hands tenderly smooth out the creases as twilight melts into a meditative dusk
they lie there, letters in the tarnished moonlight
unread by her, for she is blind.

this one just came to me a few minutes ago...... hope you like it. Autumn The wind grows ever colder Leaves are changing hue Falling so softly I just love to view it all
What a wonderful season Bringing changes Both great and small To our lives And the world
I am so very thankful For this time of year Watching the geese fly home Is such a thrill to me
The world is full of beauty Wonders that never cease Thank you Lord forever For creating it For you and me

Are we really the only two poets on HWI? C'mon guys... I know a lot of you must have poetry to share!
Kiernankate, your last post was lovely. I absolutely adore all of the things you mentioned about fall. I'm so glad my school is close enough to my house that I can walk and admire the fall beauty every morning.
In keeping with our theme of seasons, here's one I wrote about spring:
Spring Song
Petals flutter in the breeze, Daylight softly bathes the trees. Fragrant, wispy breezes float Through sunlit fields, warm and remote.
Nests constructed, frostbites broken, Hibernations gently woken. Glimpses of pale sprouts uncurling, Morning flowers wake unfurling.
A promise made, an April love; A laughing child, an soaring dove. Contentment, freedom, truth and time All living in a pastel rhyme.
In spring’s sweet sunlight, lives unwind And all its lovely gifts remind That freshness, love, light and rebirth Will ne’er cease to enchant the earth.

thank you Oksana..... here is one about Summer
Summer
Summer heat Making you retreat Into the pool Cool and deep
Just lounging around Sipping a lemonade Enjoying the sunshine And getting some rays
Bees are busily humming about Kids are running around Having water fights Playing games
Summer is a great time of year Time to relax and just chill
Nothing to do Just enjoy yourself You wish it would never end
But while it is here You intend To make the most of it And enjoy all the joys Summer does bring
