Yes, indeed they are not pleasing... I presume you have some experience with this? What someone needs to do is invent food you can eat and not feel sleepy afterwards

And his sister was married to the Iron Duke! Imagine how much different the war might have gone had he been in command. Thats very interesting... I didn't know that! Who knows what would have happened - I guess I'm glad he stayed over there

Who knows what would have happened - I guess I'm glad he stayed over there From England (old) I'm inclined to agree with you Peter T. The British government would not have learned the necessary lesson by winning the war. The loss of the American Colonies was a necessary 'kick up the proverbial' and I am sure helped pave the way to dis-engagement from India and the creation of a Commonwealth of Nations as opposed to, ultimately, either oppressed subjugation or resentful ultimate independence. This is one of the reasons why I deeply regret we abandoned the Commonwealth in preference for the diktat of European isolationism--and Europe is isolationist and far too concerned about its tummy button than dealing in relaxed openness with the rest of the world, as this island nation has been accustomed to dealing for over four centuries. We gave up much of great benefit to the world at large for what is still the intangible concepts of half-baked ideas that remain essentially self-centred and protectionist. Sitting literally, metaphorically and culturally between the two great land masses of Europe and America, with in-depth connections with the remaining continents and the rest of the world, through being the most wide-spread of all the European empires, it is not we who have lost so much as the opportunities the rest of the world has lost through our dissipation into self-centred Eurocentricity. Hello everybody.
This thread is drifting off-topic into dangerous waters. Independence Day was two days ago, so I'm locking this thread.
