Hi All, Russ's kiwi fruit avatar has given me some inspiration for a new fun thread... I'm hardly a "Jamie Oliver" in the kitchen but how about sharing ideas for some kiwi fruit recipes and alcohol free drinks? (I'd never put a kiwi bird near a blender/ chopping knife! ) Here's a kiwifruit smoothie recipe which you can find at: www.zespri.com/fruit_smoothie_recipes.htmZESPRI™ Kiwifruit Smoothie What you will need
1 cup milk 2 scoops vanilla ice-cream (or yoghurt ice-cream) 1 ripe banana, sliced 2 tablespoons fresh mint 2 ZESPRI™ GREEN Kiwifruit, peeled and finely diced
What to do
Blend the milk, ice-cream, banana and mint together in a blender till smooth.
Add the ZESPRI™ Kiwifruit, blend briefly, then pour into glasses. Serve immediately.
Serves 2.Sounds pretty cool! Andrew

Hi Andrew, A fun idea for me !! Looked up my 2 ancient cooking books, and this is what I found : Recipe for "KIWI CRISPS"125 g butter 2 good tbl.spoons castor sugar 2 tbl.spoons condensed milk 11/2 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 60 g dark chocolate, chopped Cream butter and sugar in a mixing bowl. Add condensed milk and mix well. Sift and add flour and baking powder. Stir in chopped chocolate. Roll into small balls. Place on a greased baking tray. Flatten with a fork dipped in flour, criss- cross fashion. Bake in a moderate oven for 20 minutes. Cool a few minutes on baking tray before removing to a cooling tray. Yummy....I should make them for Hayley !!! I also learned that the Kiwi fruit is a native of China, but is largely grown in NZ. Kiwifruit, which is rich in Vit. C, may be served fresh or poached and garnished with lemon juice. Love, Marianne PS. Does something strike anybody here??

Hi Richard, I'm sure Hayley would probably choose recipes which didn't include milk, ice cream, sugar or chocolate... So perhaps she has some healthier recipe suggestions? After all it's no fun if Hayley can't join in with us to enjoy them too? I will have to forage like a kiwi for some healthier recipes! Andrew

Hi Marianne, Thank you for your Kiwi crisps recipe! WOW I'm feeling rather peckish now!!! Interesting to hear about kiwifruits in China! I believe kiwifruits offer a very healthy source of iron... Your poached kiwifruits with lemon juice sound rather scrumptious- I've heard that kiwifruit with fresh lime juice is a tangy alternative! I've noticed a huge difference between the flavour and texture of organic kiwifruit compared to regular. Organic ones are much superior in my opinion! Any more recipes Marianne? Yum! Andrew

Am I off topic? I am responding to Roger's (or was it Andrew's) comment that Hayley would avoid, milk, sugar, chocolate etc.
Consequently, since I am a supporter of NON-alcoholic drinks, even if I am partial to the odd single malt that comes passing by, I believe I can make an encouraging contribution. It is a drink i call 'Summer Breeze'.
You vary according to taste and proclivity for the two components. My mix is 70-80% Cranberry juice to 20-30%orange juice, both juices being totally without sugar addition and the orange drink being, as they describe it, 'with bits in'.
With or without rocks as you choose.
Regarding Haley's tastes/health proclivities, here is a little insider information. On one evening during the period Jill had just taken over from Gerald in touring with Hayley, I was chatting with her while Hayley was dealing with a long line for signing.
We were talking about the multi-talent aspect of Hayley. I was complimenting Hayley on the simple clarity of her writing and talking generally about wider promotional opportunities. On this subject, although acknowledging she probably didn't have the time (although she could act as commissioning editor and delegate the hard slog of writing), she should publish a book on her life-style. What constituted her healthy eating, what she felt it did for her and perhaps as a general promotional aid, an overall 'Hayley's life-style'.
Jill's comment was that 'all her healthy eating and attitude to life (on health issues) comes from me and my research'.
Regardless, there is another promotional opportunity to push Hayley into wider circles and perhaps encourage a different public to buy her CDs.
Peter S.
PS: Apologies, mods for a recent but almost immediate deletion. I got my subject threads crossed.

Just kidding. I can't wait to try out these recipes. The smoothie sounds great! I wonder what Hayley would look like with a smoothie mustache? Russ

Then there's this little new addition, called A Kiwi in Tennessee, a variation on the famous Lynchburg Lemonade. Maybe Hayley can try it the next time she's in Memphis, thought NOT right before singing.
1/2 peeled Kiwi fruit 2 fl oz. Jack Daniels 1 fl oz. Kiwi schnapps 1 fl oz. fresh lemon juice ice cubes lemonade to top up kiwi slices, to decorate
Muddle the Kiwi fruit in a cocktail shaker, then add the liquor and lemon juice. Add ice cubes, shake well, then strain into highball glass filled with ice cubes. Stir and top up with lemonade. Garnish with Kiwi slices.

This thread is turning out to be, well, delicious. I am going to have to go to the grocery store soon so I can try some of these. Here a few interesting ones I found the Internet (I am going to post links to the recipes to save space). Kiwi Muffins: www.justmuffinrecipes.com/muf-0075721.htmlThis one seems interesting. I would have never thought of creating Kiwi muffins. I want to try this just to see how it turns out, although for those of us that don't use the metric system trying this recipe is going to require a few conversions before we get started. Fat-Free Kiwi Mango Salsa: www.walgreens.com/library/contents.jsp?doctype=900&docid=fatfre_fruNot sure what to make of this recipe, although this one might pass Hayley's health test. Kiwi Health Bread: www.astray.com/recipes/?show=Kiwi%20health%20breadI'm not sure what to make of this recipe...it doesn't seem to require Kiwi. Since this recipe is in a New Zealand category I am assuming there is some connection to New Zealand. But the real question is...the recipe says it is healthy, would Hayley agree? Katie
