Hey everyone! You may recall a few months back me putting an Alaskan Malamute puppy at the top of my Christmas list. Well, I didn't get one for Christmas, but I did obtain permission to get one. AND SO I DID! She is eight weeks old and her name is Luna. She is HUGE for her age. I mean, MASSIVE. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI got her on Saturday, travelled by car to Durham (from Hertfordshire, which is next to London!). 510 miles and 13 hours later after we set off, she was at home with us. To make this post relevant to everyone, post pictures of your pets or past pets. Assuming you have had some of course. If not, why not!? AH!

She is very beautiful, Nicola. I shall be most interested learning how you get on with training her. Are you going to take professional advice? I remermber thinking (hope I posted so at the time) how very lovely these creatures look when someone (you?) posted a picture of a couple of grown-up ones.

Nicola that may be the cutest puppy ever! As long as I was uploading pictures for the Childhood thread, I went ahead and uploaded a picture of my family's cat Shadow (she lives with my parents) for this thread. She lives outside most of the time (at one time we tried to make her an indoor cat, but she refused) and is twelve years old, so she is getting to be quite old. Katie

Nicola, would you mind keeping your puppy under control, please? I am slightly concerned for the safety of Katie's cat who appears on the same page. There is only so much that the Moderators can do! Roger

Roger, I should have thought more about posting a cat with a dog. But I think we should be more concerned about the saftey of Nicola's puppy than my cat. My cat is notorious for keeping her ground with large dogs (not to mention puppies). She once gave a dog four of five times her size a really nasty blooded nose. I will try to keep my cat under control. Katie

She is smoke-grey (technically a Persian blue) and when introduced to the puppy had no difficulty in putting the puppy in its place. They may meet outdoors but indoors he has his area--downstairs conservatory and she the rest of the house. The reasons for this is that it is a three-storey house and big dogs aren't supposed to do too much stair-climbing in their early years because their hind legs need time to strengthen but primarily because they discovered the cleaner has asthma and can't tolerate the presence of the dog HAVING BEEN in the room! They are anxious not to lose the cleaner! Peter S.

Sorry to put a downer on it all, but Alaskan Malamutes actually eat cats. I'll try to train her not to... it will work... hopefully. I'm actually quite worried that she will. Just have to keep an eye on her at all times I guess.

Hi Belinda, What a lovely pic.The love for your guinea pigs shows clearly on your face !! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifIt reminds me of a time when our then 10 year old son Nic bought 2 guinea pigs from the local pet shop !! Needless to say they bred themselves into a family of around 20 in no time !! He also bought a dog around that time ( pocket money from his Nana). As you can imagine the piggies were chased from one corner of the yard to the other, roaming free at the time. The puppy stayed, but the piggies were sold back to the petshop in the end .!!! Love, Marianne

nicola,
My cat is a fighter, but once your puppy is full grown I would have to say that she would have probably met her match.
Belinda,
That is a great picture. I didn't even realize that there are breeds of Guinea Pigs (seems like common sense now that I think about it).
When I was about five my three sisters and I got two Guinea Pigs for Christmas. One of them was allergic to the saw dust that is used for the bottom of the cages, so we had to use kitty litter (made for a messy cage).

Sounds like trying to stop a cat playing with a mouse, let alone stopping it biting its head off! Were my friend's cat to meet a mouse it is the cat that would run with the mouse chasing it. On the other hand, I have been familiar with farm cats who have indeed been very good mousers which is why they got fed. I suppose cat-eating dogs are somewhat more problematical. Cats here are usually owned so someone somewhere is obviously going to be rather put out. It's an interesting variation on the 'I'm afraid our car has just run over your cat'. 'I'm awfully sorry, I'm afraid my dog's just eaten your cat! I do hope you're not too put out!' I can think of a whole range of hilarious incidents where cats or dogs have taken the central role in many a joke or comedy film--but refer to 'What makes You Laugh', thread if any thoughts occur to you. My family our best friends with the family opposite us. They have three cats. It would be a bit more awkward is Luna ate one of their cats. Especially as that family has four kids ranging between 7-18 years of age. I don't think they would be so understanding! My insurence covers such an incident, but it doesn't give the beloved pet back to the family. Apparently my dog even eats the bones so there would be nothing left. She may eat a cat and we would never know!

Absolutely adorable!! Almost as cute as my handsome little guy... We took care of a dog that looked like that once, but eventually they found the owners so we had to give him back!
