Hi Martin I enjoyed your photos very much particularly that of Keswick. I have never been there but now I am very tempted.
Best wishes Martin

Hello everyone With a grey and wet weekend in prospect, I ventured out on a bright and frosty Friday morning to explore Elvaston Castle Contry Park. Although it's only 10 minutes drive for me, I hardly ever get there. The frost covered ground and sunlit tree made an interesting pictureI also liked the shadows cast by the sun through the trees in this sceneIn the thickest part of the woods by the lake, the sun can only be seen on the shimmering water. Can you spot the duck? I may sort out a few more later. Best wishes Grant

Hello everyone Here are a few more pictures from my walk in Elvaston Castle Country Park The formal garden with the oldest part of the house visible on the leftLooking away from the house, across the formal garden, is the estate church which also acts as Elvaston village churchI chose the camera's sepia setting for this close up of the door to the Sextans Bothy in the church yard Best wishes Grant

Hi Grant Thanks for the wonderful photo's. I am sure that in the dim and distant past I have visited Elvaston Castle - it certainly looks worth visiting again if I'm ever up that way - maybe if I have an hour or two to kill whilst waiting to go to a concert Thanks again Mark

Hi Mark and thanks for your comments.
It was a bit muddy round the lakeside path, but well worth a visit. There are plans a foot to make drastic changes which may result in public access being stopped.
The house isn't open to the public anyway, apart from the tea rooms (which don't open in winter) and there is a small charge for parking but everything else is free at the moment.
Best wishes Grant

Hi All, I've been inspired to produce a few still life paintings recently. I bought some artificial vine leaves and some bunches of real grapes and mounted them onto one of the walls of my flat (in the kitchen area) like this: I then altered the angle of the lighting source a bit in order to create some dramatic shadows. I think the first picture (below) could be used for the composition of quite a nice painting... Andrew

Hi Belinda, Lovely photo, hope she brings you much joy, My sons friends put the newborn baby in a roasting dish and surrounded it with potatoes for a photograph, It sure looked funny, " The all love children but they couldn't eat a whole one " Best wishes from Dublin

Hi Belinda, Andrew and Caitlin and thank you for your recent pictures. I ventured out again on Saturday with my friend Steve to find some suitable subjects for a days photography. We found ourselves on the Via Gellia near Cromford (which Joyce may remember as we travelled this route on our way to see Hayley in Buxton in April). The woods and stream have been left to nature to encourage wildlife and the whole area has taken on a 'primeval' feel. This first picture shows one of the man made waterfalls and sluice gate which would have driven one of the many mills here. I used a tripod for these shots and for the technically minded, this one was taken at 2.50 Sec. F29 at ISO100 One of the fast flowing parts of the stream (1/2 Sec. F10) One of the few fungi to be found at this time of the year is Flammulina Velutipes or in English, the velvet shank. This is an edible mushroom but, so I'm told, not very nice! (2.50 Sec. F20) May have a few more later. Best wishes Grant

Hello everyone A few more pics from Saturday's photographic expedition. I couldn't resist this solitary branch hanging over one of the mill ponds. A slightly different perspective and the branch meets some of the pond fauna A much photographed derelict stone barn in the village of Bonsall Best wishes Grant
