Wembley Arena re-opens with Depeche Mode show
03 April 2006 - 14:46:11
Wembley Arena re-opened its doors last night following a £35m refurbishment programme with a sell-out performance by Depeche Mode.
Fifteen months after the venue temporarily shut its doors, the Mute-signed act played in front of 12,400 people, while Wembley Arena general manager Peter Tudor presented the band with an award to mark the occasion.
The refurbished Live Nation-managed venue includes a triple-height entrance and a 200-seat restaurant and bar overlooking a square complete with fountains and lighting effects.
Tudor says, “We’re very pleased with what we’ve been able to achieve over the last 15 months. Wembley Arena is a legendary venue and as has played host to every major touring artist of our time. These refurbishments will ensure its continued success and if this year’s bookings are anything to go by we’re going to be busier than ever.”
Other acts already lined up to play Wembley Arena include Girls Aloud, Il Divo, BB King and Gary Moore, Cliff Richard, Santa and Take That.
