3. Piano Sonatas Nos 30, 31 & 32: Uchida 4. The Planets - Karajan, BPO
Hi Andrew, thanks for that. But I have to say that since Britannia Music Club were taken over from Universal Music not too long ago, by a Jersey registered company UGD Ltd (they also run www.musicandfilm.co.uk/) some very strange things have been happening. Now, their charts often look weird in places, compared to the official charts. Two examples that jumped out at me from their latest classical chart are: 3. Piano Sonatas Nos 30, 31 & 32: Uchida 4. The Planets - Karajan, BPO Well I can find neither of these in the latest Classical Artist or Classic FM chart (top 50!) and I can't even find the Uchida in stock at Amazon or HMV. They now seem to make their chart up as they go along, perhaps their nos. 3 and 4 are simply this week's bonus offers, who knows? Either way, take these charts (which I used to like when they were owned by Universal Music) with a huge pinch of salt and sand. Hayley is still the official number 1 classical album. Incidentally, Music Club sales (like Britannia) are not included in the official charts because their "special deal", loss-leader and contractual selling methods could unfairly distort them. Britannia are not alone in making up their own charts - most retailers now do it and even HMV "fix" their version of the Classic FM chart (replacing any albums they don't stock or don't want to stock with their own choices, often from well outside the official charts. Oh well... But there's no harm in quoting these kind of unofficial charts as long as everyone knows what they are. I'd better move this into the charts board! Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave, Thanks for your comments! (I threw a few pounds of salt and several bags of sugar over my left shoulder- thankfully I don't think anyone got in the way! ) Indeed there may be some "funny goings on" with the 'Britannia Classical Chart'... but I'll tell you what... Britannia are spot-on with their description of the new edition of 'Odyssey' i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif"Hayley's second album Odyssey has scaled the classical charts all over the world selling over two million copies in the process. This is not surprising considering it carries on the good work from her debut album. There is a beautiful rendition of Caccini's Ave Maria and 'May It Be' from the soundtrack to The Lord of the Rings amongst many other fabulous tracks. This New Edition features three extra tracks - 'Lascia Ch'io pianga', 'Water Is Wide', 'Scarborough Fair' which makes this collection even better - if that was possible!"The link for this quotation is posted below: www.bclub.co.uk/info/FR/classical/0111No matter what any chart sales suggest, I think you will agree this blurb says it all? Regards, Andrew

Hi All, BTW- The only thing which Britannia forgot to mention was... "buy both editions of 'Odyssey' since the 1st one includes 'Never Saw Blue', whilst the 2nd one doesn't. As a compromise you get 3 new fantastic tracks! on the latest version" Regards, Andrew

No matter what any chart sales suggest, I think you will agree this blurb says it all? Hi Andrew, I like this bit from their blurb: which sounds like it was written by one of us! I just wish these people would get their facts right though - 2 million sales for Odyssey (*we* know they meant Pure!) and a quote about Katherine in one of the Classical Brits reports said she's sold 1.5 million albums. No way! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifCheers, Dave

Hi Steve and Stuart! (There go the twins... ) Many thanks for your encouragement re: the 400th post... I will try to make the "maest" of it (does that sound anything like a bad Suffolk accent? Perhaps I should ask my Dad? ) You two are really delivering excellent service and commitment to the Forum these days... I'm looking forward to meeting up- perhaps in Newmarket (I will book my ticket tomorrow if possible!). Regards, Andrew
