Did anybody miss me yesterday? No? Well I'm still going to tell you where I was..... I went to London to see Nicola play Mozart's Violin Concerto in A major in the Barbican Hall. I had a seat in the middle of the third row from where I could see the amazing dexterity of her fingers. I couldn't believe the lengthy passage of double stopping when her first and second fingers were playing crotchets while her third and fourth were playing quavers. Is that really possible? She seems to think so! The concert opened with a work by Schnittke entitled 'Mozart a la Haydn' and concluded with Beethoven's 7th Symphony played by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields conducted by John Nelson. That symphony is one of my favourites but I had never seen it performed live before. But the highlight of the evening, for me, was Nicola. And once again, thank you Joe for bringing this concert to my attention all those weeks ago. Didn't anyone miss me? Roger

Oh, were you missing for a day Roger? I didn't notice at all! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif I'll tell you what though, I envy you as you went to Nicola's concert, all I have is her CD... but it didn't cost me a penny! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif Well that's the beauty of birthdays, even at my great age, LOL. Seriously, you must get the CD, it's worth it even if, like me, you aren't yet sure about the Szymanowsky Concerto, there are plenty of other goodies on it. I love Havanaise, Poeme, Meditation from Thais, Contemplation and there's more. That little lot lasts 40 minutes on top of the Szmanowski, and there's also a Karaoke version of "Meditation". Full orchestra, but instead of singing to it, you download the sheet music from her website and play your violin to it! LOLOL! You can even buy Nicola ringtones - youngsters take note (don't faint, Roger ) In fact, the entire CD runs for 73 minutes 25 seconds - it's brilliant value for money - buy it! You, too, Cathleen... it's great to know you like Nicola as well... so don't be shy (I hope you are able to get it!). And Kimberly, I haven't forgotten that you like Nicola too! Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave, Thanks so much for that information. I've been kinda looking around for a cheap Nicola CD. I think I'll look harder now. You convinced me!! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif Roger, I can't believe you went to her concert, but you don't have her CD! I like the idea of playing your violin to the backing track on the CD. I used to play the violin, so maybe I could get it out and try out the music. It looks pretty tough, but if I listened to Nicola play it, I think I could do it. Now...all I have to do is buy the album first! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Roger, I can't believe you went to her concert, but you don't have her CD! Haha, I do daft things like that sometimes! Actually I took a close look at the CD today and ended up putting it back in the rack. I don't doubt it is wonderful but, whenever I play a CD these days, I don't want it to be anything other than Hayley (or a handful of other singers occasionally). I used to really like orchestral works and I still have 200 CDs or so but I never seem to play them. Therefore, it doesn't make a lot of sense to buy Nicola's. I probably will though! Roger

I don't think Nicola's CD is worth a buy yet, as she still has not developed any unique interpretation of music.

Roger I'm so glad you had a good time at Nicola's concert at the Barbican! And I'm also glad that I saw the advert in the ClassicFM magazine. You are very welcome! P.S. I missed you as well! (That makes two!)
