Hi guys, this is buried Somewhere in the original WSS thread so I thought it would be handy to repeat it here in a new thread. This is just copied from the HWI main site but it's the official tracklisting emailed out by UCJ in a Newsletter. The West Side Story album is a Cast Recording - which is why you see Hayley's name listed at the start as Maria and it also explains why Connie Fisher was brought in to sing Somewhere which is sung by "a girl" not Maria. If Hayley had sung two different parts, the album would probably have become a "Various Artists" compilation, would not have been eligible for the main album chart and would have lost some of its significance. Sales too would have suffered, I am sure. Cast Tony - Vittorio Grigolo Maria - Hayley Westenra Riff - Will Martin Anita - Melanie Marshall A girl - Connie Fisher Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra/Nick Ingman Album Tracklist 1. Prologue (4:14) 2. Jet Song - Riff and the Jets (2:52) 3. Something's Coming - Tony (2:37) 4. The Dance at The Gym (Blues, Promenade, Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, Jump) - Jets and Sharks (6:48) 5. Maria - Tony and Maria (2:57) 6. Tonight (balcony) - Tony and Maria (5:39) 7. America - Anita, Rosalia and girls (4:51) 8. Cool - Riff and Jets (4:57) 9. One Hand, One Heart - Tony and Maria (3:53) 10. Tonight (ensemble) - Tony and Maria and cast (4:02) 11. I Feel Pretty - Maria and girls (3:06) 12. Somewhere - A Girl (2:20) 13. Gee Officer Krupke - Jets (4:33) 14. A Boy Like That - Anita and Maria (2:22) 15. I Have A Love - Maria and Anita (3:19) 16. Finale - Tony and Maria (1:34) (60m:04s - timings from http://www.7digital.com). One thing I am puzzled about is this. When Maria the character is listed for certain songs, such as Maria the song, does that necessarily mean Hayley takes part in that song... or just that in the stage and film version, Maria is there with Tony while he sings - but she is not necessarily singing? Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave, Incidentally, I was about to post in this topic as I noticed a funny thing on Amazon.co.uk. The WSS tracklist has slightly changed from what you posted above. See below: Album Tracklist 1. Prologue - Orchestra 2. Jet Song - Will Martin and Jets 3. Something's Coming - Vittorio Grigolo 4. Blues - Orchestra 5. Promenade - Orchestra 6. Mambo - Orchestra 7. Cha Cha - Orchestra 8. Jump - Orchestra 9. Maria - Vittorio Grigolo 10. Balcony Scene (Tonight) - Vittorio Grigolo and Hayley Westenra11. America - Melanie Marshall and Girls 12. Cool - Will Martin and Jets 13. One Hand, One Heart - Vittorio Grigolo and Hayley Westenra14. Tonight (ensemble) - Vittorio Grigolo, Hayley Westenra, Will Martin, 15. I Feel Pretty - Hayley Westenra16. Somewhere - Connie Fisher 17. Gee, Officer Krupke - Jets 18. A Boy Like That - Hayley Westenra and Melanie Marshall 19. I Have A Love - Hayley Westenra and Melanie Marshall 20. Finale - Vittorio Grigolo and Hayley WestenraI wonder what caused such a change Best wishes, Stephany

Hi Stephany, My eyes are getting old! I can't see what's changed apart from Dance at the Gym being combined in the UCJ listing... is it the song Maria, which I mentioned regarding Hayley's involvement (or absence)? Or did I miss it? Cheers, Dave

Hi again Dave, I think I can answer that. As you know, some of us got an early copy of this CD and I can tell you that Hayley is definitely NOT singing in 'Maria'. It is merely the exact same song than Vittorio performed in Woburn. Best wishes, Stephany

Cheers, Dave Sorry Dave, I was actually refering to the listed names, not the tracklist. They are now promoting the CD with 'Hayley Westenra', 'Vittorio Grigolo', etc. and not with the characters' names anymore. Unless that doesn't change much? Stephany

Hi Stephany, The Classics and Jazz www.classicsandjazz.co.uk site still lists the Cast. Assuming that you have the promo version, I wonder what the actual album to be released says? Or do you have a "leaked" copy of that? Amazon/HMV etc. would naturally want to sell it by the singers' names on it but I wonder how it is presented officially? It makes a difference because it could affect which chart it appears in and that could be important for its sales. Cheers, Dave

I'm amazed (but pleased) how much publicity this new album is receiving (my perception is that it is even more than Treasure). I hope it gets the success it deserves and furthers the promotion of Hayley (and let's not forget Vittorio!).
If it becomes a smash hit then I would like it to be given the opportunity to be recorded, perhaps as a TV special followed by a DVD release.

I have listened to Hayley singing *I have a Love* only last night...and I am blown away by her rendition of it. Wow...she sings Soprano all right !! I wonder if someone knows...Caite would ...whether Hayley sings a high D towards the end !! I adore this song...well, I adore Hayley !! I know she sings a high D in Quanta Qualia and it sounds like it to me... but what do I know ??!! Love, Marianne

Yes, I agree. You have to wait until 10 tracks into the CD before you hear Hayley's voice, but when you do there are some real gems. I have a love is terrific. So is the little bit of Somewhere that Hayley sings in the finale. It shows she is at lest two divisions above Connie as a singer IMO.

I see Katherine Jenkins has just recorded "Somewhere" on her new album. GRRRR! I was hoping Hayley would record it on an Xmas special edition of "Treasure" as a bonus track but it looks as if I'll be disappointed. Hands up all of you who would have bought it ?! Thought so ! Hayley's team have missed a trick there and we know what will be No.1 at Xmas don't we ?

Hi Jeff, It will be the X-Factor single I don't think Somewhere would make an impression as a single, not even if Hayley or Katherine released it... which shows the sad state of radio airplay and the charts at the moment.
