On a lighter note Dave, I do like All Angels a lot more now. My first impression of the album was 'this all sounds the same', but isn't that the same with absolutely any first listen? So like I promised, I listened to the album with TLC. I listened to it all last night, all of this morning, and twice with intense concentration before I reached a verdict. I was disappointed because I always worry about my reputation on these boards as overly critical and I was trying to find nice things to say left, right and centre. I'm really quite confident that this is my view of the album. I said the same about Odyssey when it came out and my view never changed on that one either (and I did try to listen to it again numerous times). Within Temptation is a bit radical, I'm only referring to the lead singer, Sharon Den Adel, and am only referring to the slower material which they have a lot of (the rest is metal). Out of all of the singers I have though, it is Sharon that most resembles Hayley vocally, if you listen to her ballads, you may like them (Our Farewell, Bittersweet, Pale, Somewhere, Say My Name, Memories, Pale, In Perfect Harmony, among others). Anne Buckley is obscure, she was in Lord of the Dance and released one album called 'Celtic Goddess' It's actually very good and unlike Within Temptation, would urge you to listen to it, because I think you would like it. I'm surprised at Izzy, but understand Sarah. She's someone people either love or hate. I only like one of Sissel's albums, but it's one of my favouites over all. Her material can be too 80's poppy sometimes. :/ I think it's like what you say Dave, just different tastes. But I do think you would like Anne Buckley. Our taste can't be that different, since I'm on a Hayley forum in the first place.

Hello Socalboy (do you have a name?), Yes. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifNicola: We see (and hear) Summer Fly differently. I wouldn’t compare it to Heaven. Heaven is one of my all time favorite Hayleys, but by popular standards its “soft.” Summer Fly on the other hand has a buzz (pun intended). It’s got an edge to it. That’s why I think it has mainstream appeal here. Perhaps Summer Fly is to Treasure what Wuthering Heights was to Pure. But even that comparison is imperfect because Wuthering Heights was far more whimsical and was firmly associated with a previous artist. Not so Summer Fly. It has the ideal combination: It’s relatively unknown, but it “feels” familiar. And you can dance to it. It could be a monster.

When you say Mainstream success, do you mean single charts? Because that song wouldn't stand a chance. It may sound 'buzzy' and 'dancey' in contrast to the rest of the album, but put it next to 'Button's by girl thingy Cat Dolls and then there isn't much competition!
If you mean 'mainstream' by classical standards, Hayley is already mainstream and anything she does will be picked up by Classical FM TV.
I think here in the UK, Le Notte Del Silenzio or Let Me Lie, might be the mainstream choices. I mean, I don't like Summer Fly, but I can see it's appeal, it could have great potential, and I hope you are right, really. It will definitely reach out to a new audience who haven't heard Hayley before.
P.S. Oh, I know your name is Steve! HA!

Hi Nicola. On second thoughts, why don't you take your album back to the store where you bought it and exchange it for the one everyone else has got!! Take care Grant Thats the best laugh I had today. Happy St Patrick's day to you all... comet

Wow, Nicola! What a way to get a thread active! You are absolutely entitled to your opinion, and thank you for being honest and respectful about it! Like just about everyone else here, I hearitly disagree with your review, but I'm almost certain the album will grow on you. I think perhaps now that you have gotten your first impressions off your chest, you can listen to it without the pressure of having to like it, and maybe it will just grow on you naturally! I agree about Sonny and Summer Rain -- those were my two intsant favourites, but since then, a lot of others have come very close. I still have not chosen a favourite. I am puzzled about how you say all 3 of Hayley's albums are kind of the same... to me, they are all very different in sound, song choice, arrangement, tempo, style, just about everything. I also disagree about the emotion thing... she shows much, much, much more emotion on Treasure than she did on any of her other CDs. She has really grown up, vocally, and as a performer. In my opinion, at least! One more thing that confused me... What film are you referring to? Oksy

This is absolutely true. I just close my eyes and see myself in a calm place, with green fields all around me. It is so relaxing!
I wonder who they are refering to. Anyway, Hayley's Danny Boy is fabulous - I never grow tired of it.
Thanks for the short but interesting review, Richard!

Hi Nicola & everyone Thanks for your very in-depth review Nicola. We all have our own opinions and I respect you for giving yours, knowing that it wouldn't be what the vast majority of members would want to hear. I can only speak for myself when I say that for me Treasure is the best of the three albums. Perhaps its because I feel it is overall less "classical". My favourite tracks on both her previous albums were those which were not so classical, those which I considered classical, I constantly skipped when listening. With Treasure, I dont really skip any tracks, although I agree with you in that there are a couple of "fillers" on the track listing. I am not at all keen to listen to most other, (Katherine Jenkins style) classical singers. To me anyway, Hayley is unique, so why would she want to move away to much from the style that has got her where it has - if its not broken, don't fix it !! Obviously, apart from the fact that you feel the songs on Treasure are same old, same old, how can you not enjoy listening to E Pari Ra ? To me the native Maori songs are Hayley's USP. The musical arrangement with the celtic/ irish feel sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it Finally, I would also say (and I hope you won't mind me mentioning this Jon) Jon S initially reported that he was very disappointed after hearing Treasure the first few times. However, now, quite a few weeks on, I know that his perception of it has changed (see his report). Perhaps you need to listen to Treasure for a few more weeks before making your final judgement about banishing this album to a dark cupboard. Its good to hear that you would still come to a Hayley concert though. I look forward to meeting you one day perhaps. Best wishes Mark
