We've all been there: just when the discussion's really getting interesting you add your two cents' worth and next thing you know you're totally off topic, commenting on Hayley's tennis skills when the thread was meant to be about her stamp collection. Tsk tsk.
Well finally... the forum thread has arrived in which you may discuss just about anything regarding Hayley -- wherever that may lead you -- without fear of going off topic. Think of it as the all-purpose discussion thread. Just keep it about, around or involving Hayley and you can't go wrong.
I'll start us off:
I like most of Hayley's dresses but I think some, especially the green one, get overexposed. It would be better if she didn't recycle her stage look as often as it appears she does.

Hi Steve Just as a matter of interest, how many threads have you actually been responsible for starting on this forum? Gosh! I'm off topic already! The green dress? OK, Hayley has already said that it is one of the most expensive dresses she has ever bought and yes, she has worn it a lot, but one of the highlights of my Hayley calender was having my photograph taken with her wearing it at Chichester Cathedral last year! Hayley is not like some performers who have to have at least two new dresses for every performance and that doesn't worry me at all. having said that, I do hope we see another new dress this year! Best wishes Grant

Don't get me wrong, Grant; I like that elegant green dress a lot and I know it's extremely valuable -- but it's been photographed over and over, making it seem like she doesn't own many others. It's the internet age now and you can't get away with repeatedly wearing something the way you could only 20 years ago when no one would have been the wiser.
Maybe deep down I have something against Hayley in dresses. My first Hayley concerts had her in jeans and so that's the image I'll always prefer.

Hi Steve
My last post was a comment and was not intended to be critical of your view.
Another point to bear in mind is that the photographers amongst us may be partly to blame as we always tend to photograph more, the dresses we like the most.
Regarding your other comment about jeans, I have to agree to an extent. The first time I actually met Hayley, after my initial concert, she was dressed simply in jeans and a black sweater and she looked amazing.
Best wishes Grant

I'm not joking.

I think this is a great idea and would be willing to chip in... The thing about it is... how would all of us agree on a dress... and how would we keep the dress we picked secret from Hayley so it would be a suprise?! Love the general idea of this thread though... pure genius PS: i don't mind personally that Hayley wears that green dress alot... probably makes packing her suitcases alot easier Hi Grant! Remember, to the greater majority of all her audiences it is new. At the most it is only the second or third time they will have seen her in it, except for those very lucky few who see her several times a year--I plead guilty! You are in effect complaining of seeing her too often! Now that is a nonHayley observation which means you have already gone off topic on your thread where you wrote no one can go off topic! edit: However (to save a separate post Mods please note) as I don't think it worth creating a new thread, or may be so... I'll leave that to the Mods, but about her birthday, taking Steve literally. It is possible that so many gathering at at Buxton may be thinking of something more than a chocolate bar with their birthday card? I will be including a cheque made out to UNICEF for her to contribute it to which ever of her two projects she wishes. That gives her both a birthday choice and a sense of contributing further for her charity work. While a small token would perhaps be appreciated, anything OTT would be best donating it to UNICEF through her (a bit of a hassle for her) but which I am sure she would appreciate so much more. Peter S.

... you have already gone off topic on your thread where you wrote no one can go off topic! Heh, I was feeling a little hemmed in. What I was actually trying to do was launch a Hayley thread about Hayley's threads, perhaps as a fitting tribute but now it has unravelled thanks to your dressing down. I see a pattern here.

Ah well, seeing as Steve has started this thread, it seems as good a place as any to make a one-off post.
Imagine my surprise at seeing Hayley's name mentioned in the sports pages of the Daily Mail today (no pictures) in a brief article on Katherine Jenkins and, you guessed it, rugby.
As it was a short article I have typed it out for you:
"For all the wrong notes hit by their team over the last few seasons, Wales could always count on Katherine Jenkins to give Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau a rare touch of class. Only last year the official match programme proudly presented the girl from Neath as “the world’s biggest selling classical artist and the voice of the Grand Slam in 2005.”
The All Blacks tried to compete by wheeling out Hayley Westenra, the Scots once invited Lulu to pump up Flower of Scotland, England had Russell Watson and the Wallabies John Waltzing Matilda Williamson. Now Wales have decided to drop their diva, a “don’t call us, we’ll call you” decision which cannot have anything to do with cost-cutting because Ms Jenkins never charged a fee. It doesn’t seem to pay in Welsh rugby circles to be called Jenkins these days. Gareth Jenkins got the boot during the World Cup, Gethin Jenkins was out on his ear after one match as captain and now Katherine is not singing any more, at least not at the Millenium Stadium."
Any coverage is a bonus, and it's odd to think I get excited whenever I see Hayley's name in the paper - even in such a passing mention!
By the way, thanks and well done to Howard for getting Hayley in the paper last weekend, regardless of the ensuing debate on the now locked thread.
James

"Let me wheel, let me spin." -- Dark Waltz
Hayley was two other connections with wheels: 1. her "Benedictus" was used in a Lexus ad in Japan; 2. She sang the US national anthem before a NASCAR race.

Steve: I don’t mean to needle you, but I think you need to tailor your argument in a manner that better suits this forum. Your present approach serves only to cloak your point and skirt the subject. While I admire your ability to cobble together these topics, I fear you may be wearing out your welcome. I would hate to see the mods step in and put a wrap on all of this.

Just to add my thoughts....
I think the green dress is pretty and very unusual....but if you go back to some of the photos posted on here there are several shots where it is not totally falttering to Hayley.....just my opinion....
And I was enjoying reading the thread about the Hayley stuff in the paper...too bad it was cut off....?

Hi everyone, Although I have no wish to discourage anyone from posting, I have reservations about this particular thread. Most topics have an existing thread and to mention them again here will cause unnecessary duplication. Also, if we need to refer back to a particular discussion in the future, we will have no way of knowing that part of it took place here. This thread will continue for the time being but we will see how it goes. For those of you who have mentioned the possibility of a gift for Hayley's birthday, this is something that the Management Team have been discussing for months. Before any conclusion was reached, we were advised on good authority that Hayley has asked for the occasion to be kept "low key". Also, when we bought her a gift for her eighteenth birthday, we were advised that she would not wish us to spend money on her but would prefer donations to be made to UNICEF. I think we have little alternative but to respect her wishes but for those of you who will be seeing her at events before her birthday, I feel sure that a card would be appreciated. Incidentally, it is not usually up to Hayley to deal with cheques for UNICEF. I know there have been instances in the past but I am not sure that she is even authorised to handle them. The correct way to donate is via unicef.org.nz on one or other of the following links: Bikes for GhanaHayley's Playground PumpsThanks, Roger

Hi Steve,
A great idea, a miscellaneous thread in a miscellaneous board.
However, it will only lead to confusion if there are too many separate things being discussed.

But she likes it Steve! Who on earth are we to discourage her? Remember, to the greater majority of all her audiences it is new. At the most it is only the second or third time they will have seen her in it, Peter S. Yes, and I like it too! It is a lovely dress, te one I voted for in the dress poll, and I would not be upset if she wore it at all of her concerts (not that I go to many of them). Martin I've corrected the quote tags.
