Sorry i am not on this board very much, so i only just saw this... but yes i probably spent a good 300 hours on Hayleys family tree as it was an experiment on my part. i was trying to find out how related i might be to any English descended person i might pick. To make it difficult i just picked Hayley from far away New Zealand since i listened to lots of her music at the time It turns out we are 15th cousins It was not an easy task let me tell you... but it is made a bit simpler because of Hayley's rather unusual last name

i put all the research up on rootsweb a while back... the tree has about 1500 people on it, and that is not counting much on Hayley's mother side which i didn't really research too much.

The main thing i was happy to accomplish was to determine how Hayley's New Zealand branch of the Westenra family fit back into the original Westenra's that are in the peerage of Ireland. That took a boatload of research (nothing like a mystery to keep me motivated).

Hayley, is also related to literally millions of Americans through some gateway ancestors in New England, and also through the Corbin family that came to Virginia early in American history.

i also found that she is also a descendant of Mary Boleyn (sister of Ann Boleyn)

i cannot remember off the top of my head the latest of the English Kings she descends from... but she is 8th cousins to Princess Diana's sons (Prince William and Harry).

Hello every one. Keep looking at the website when I can. From his month I have more time to myself has we now we have carers come in to Wendy twice a day and day care once a week.
I have just had results from an DNA test to confirm my findings and it looks like Myself is an half 3rd cousin once removed and Abigail is an half 4th cousin to Hayley. Who would have known when we first went to an Hayley concert all those years ago and when Abigail gave Hayley her 21st birthday card at Buxton we were related so close. Now I know why Abigail and Hayley has the same features.

As far as the original Westenra's that came from Holland. There were 3 Westenra's that were naturalized citizens in 1662...

The act of naturalization states:

"An Act for the naturalizing of Derricke Westenra, Merchant, Peter Westenra, Son to said Derricke, Warner Westenra, Merchant...."

Best I know they came from the Amsterdam area... (i derive this from a court case I found against one of the original Westenras) and then prior to that from an area close to the German/Dutch border...

Hayley is also of lots of English ancestry.

i found your ancestor John McFarlane on the family tree i put together 6 or so years ago during my research on the Westenra's of NZ.

This is the descent from John McFarlane to Hayley:

Hope this is enjoyable reading for the forum. i am about 12% Scottish myself, but my distant cousin relationship to Hayley comes from a common ancestor on her English side who happened to be the Lord Mayor of London

PPS: i did a tiny bit of research on John McFarlane but i could not find any info on where in Scotland he came from... if you could point me to any info i'd be happy to expand that portion of the tree.

PPPS: determining how Hayley's branch of the Westenra family back in Ireland was incredibly hard... but after much research i figured it out. i even read some of the old Westenra books for hints but that didnt help. i even contacted the current heir apparent to the title of Baron Rossmore - Hon. Benedict William Westenra (a very nice and pleasant person btw)... but as best as i recall he didn't know how they were related.

i probably should let him know how they are related now that i think of it. Anyways, Hayley's Westenra forebear... "the Captain" that first came to New Zealand with his family on the "Midlothian"... from my research was a son of Richard Westenra and Bridget Warren.

it would be interesting knowing more about his military service record but i only have so much time.

When Hayley spoke to a group of HWI members after her Concert in Cork City Hall on the 14th December 2014

she said it was her first time to visit Cork and that her ancestors had emigrated from there (Cork).
Hayley did not say where they emigrated to, nor an approximate date.
She said their name was Dunn / Dunne and asked if it was it a popular name ?

Maybe some of the other members who were there can add other details.

I seem to remember she said something during the show too. I think she said which ancestor it was, great great grandmother or something (but can't remember exactly). I do have a recording of both shows I could trawl through when I get time.

Hayley's 3rd great grandmother was Isabella Pyne Roche... she was the lady married to the Captain Richard Westenra that arrived with his family on the Midlothian. This lady is Hayley's 3rd great grandmother. Perhaps this is who Hayley intended to mention? i don't see any Dunne's on the Hayley tree i compiled and especially not from Cork.

i did find Captain Westenra on the voter rolls for Kinsale, Cork...

Unfortunately i haven't worked on Hayley's tree since 2009... kind of shocking how fast time flies really.

At any rate here is a little more about Captain Richard... the patriarch of the Westenra family there in New Zealand. i have a lot more about him in my personal notes... but its not added on the rootsweb page

[EDIT] - i am starting to think that the Dunne's that Hayley mentions are probably not from her father's side but from her mother's side. i haven't done Hayley's mother's side of the family tree unfortunately. i must of spent hundreds of hours back in 2007 tracing out all of the Westenras in NZ lol... no longer have time to do that unfortunately
