I searched for Hayley Westenra on there, and I clicked on "full results on Itunes" or whatever, and then it wants me to download Itunes first. I don't have Itunes, and I don't want to do that just to hear a clip of one song.

I sang a carol in church this morning, and when I thought about what it would have sounded like had Hayley sung it, I was overcome and couldn't sing any more. The carol is perhaps the oldest one that exists, dating from the fourth or fifth century AD. The guy who is credited with writing it sounds like a Roman! I think it was originally in Latin, and the first verse goes (in English)
Of the Father's love begotten, ere the worlds began to be, He is Alpha and Omega, He the source, the ending He, of the things that are, that have been, and that future years shall see, evermore and evermore.
I won't bore you with the rest of it, only to say that this is a fabulous carol that I'm sure Hayley could sing brilliantly. This is another one for Hayley's long overdue new Christmas album.

Hi Martin I sang a carol in church this morning, And I sang it tonight at my friends church's Nine Lessons and Carols service! I have never heard it before and was totally unfamiliar with the tune but I agree, Hayley would make a wonderful job of it. Best wishes Grant

It seems like many of Hayley's songs are love songs. Given this I would love to hear her sing, Secret Love, made popular by Doris Day. It's from the Musical Calamity Jane from the fifties. I think it would be perfect for Hayley's voice.

I recall there was a Nine Lessons and Carols track on a CD I have. A Kings College Christmas album I believe.

Needless to say, I don't admire her singing anywhere near as much as I do Hayley's. In fact, I think Hayley's future Doris Day song covers would outshine the originals in sheer listenability by far.

Talking of Doris Day and Calamity Jane, 'Black Hills of Dakota' would suit Hayley's voice rather well too. Richard

Dream a Dream (not the same as I Dreamed a Dreamed), a gorgeous duet on one of Charlotte Church's albums, is something I wouldn't mind hearing Hayley sing. I'm not sure it would have to be a duet, but if she did sing it with someone, I'd prefer it to be someone who won't drown her out.
If anyone has heard Becky Jane Taylor's version of The Last Words You Said, she duets with someone who allows her to shine, while he simply adds to the beauty of her voice, rather than snatching the spotlight & drowning her out. His name is Richard Oliver, and I think he'd make a good partner for Hayley to sing with.

A couple more suggestions for Hayley! The Magic: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFWsgHrupygEliza's Aria: Link apparently removed due to copyright, but I'm editing to add the song title back. Google for a listen - it's definitely something very suited to Hayley's voice, in my opinion. (I'm assuming my edit is okay.) I also think a few songs from Holly Stell's CD would suit Hayley's voice, but I had trouble finding clips of the right songs.

She is quite a talented songwriter so I too would like to hear more of her own work. I do think however, with a different arrangement (lose the wah wah guitar for a start), slowed down, a 'Westenra'd' version of this would sound fabulous (especially the note at 2:24):
Timo Tolkki - Key To The Universe
or how about
Forever - Stratovarius
with Andy working that accoustic!

She has the right voice for Within Temptation's 'Memories'. It's a fantastic song, and Hayley's team can arrange it into something a little bit more acoustic. It would be a revelation, I think. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhzJO34SCocAlso a beautiful song that Hayley could drastically change with her voice and arrangements is 'Sleeping Sun'. It's the most haunting song I know. It has a mezzo-soprano range, BUT I think the change would make it completely different and new. I imagine that Hayley could make this into the same kind of thing that Dark Waltz became. Nightwish - Sleeping Sun Edit: YES! Total match made in heaven. 2nd YouTube link replaced by Dave

Can I remind everyone (especially but not only in this thread) that we do not allow links to tracks (apart from short extracts) that are apparently copied from commercially available recordings. I may therefore have to replace some of links in the last few posts by the artist and track name, when I've checked and unless someone else gets there first... . Dave PS Links to music and videos on artists' or record company official sites (including on YouTube) are OK.

If Hayley ever reads this, do consider Cherany's suggestion. Your voice is perfect for Eliza's Aria. Absolutely perfect. Why didn't I ever think of that?

Oops sorry about the linkages Dave, I'll be more careful in the future.
Yes nicola you're right, and a few of nightwish songs would work really well.
In addition fully with you on the Eliza's Aria fron.
