I'd like to hear a completely original song of Hayley's, just to see what she wants to sing about, as opposed to her doing covers of other songs. Perhaps the tracks Hayley co-wrote or co-arranged give us a clue about what she wants to write about? These are What you Never Know, Both Sides Now and She Moves Through The Fair (I can see now why her Manager is so reluctant to drop that from the UK version). Of course Hayley's involvement in these three could also be because she doesn't yet have the skills to get heavily involved in more complex pieces - even if she likes them. We may have to wait a few years before we really know the answer but I think the three I mentioned do give us a clue.

Hayley also seems to like spirituals, and there are tons that would fit well in her voice:
"Ride up in the Chariot" (a rousing song sometimes paired with the more famous "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot"
"Honor, Honor" (another faster-paced spiritual encouraging "run along, chldren, and be baptized"
"King of Kings" (Christ as the greatest Worker bringing in the Kingdom)
"Gospel Train" (also famous "Get on board, little children, get on board, little children, get on board, little children, there's room for many-a more!")
"Deep River" ( a slower spiritual about "My home over Jordan")
"Let Us Break Bread Together " (perhaps a bit repetitious, but famous)
"There Is a Balm in Gilead" (Also famous, singing of "healing the sin-sick soul" and "If you cannot sing like angels, if you cannot preach like Paul, you can tell the love of Jesus, and say He died for all.")
"Great Day" (a rousing war spiritual)
"He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" (so well-known that no comment is needed)
"Oh, Mary, Don't You Weep" (A fast spiritual about the drowning of Pharoah in the Red Sea)
"Go Down, Moses" (also so well-known as to not need description)
Hmm, sounds like we've almost got a whole revival going on here.
Seriously, any of these would sound great in Hayley's voice, with or without a gospel choir to back her.

I thought Hayley only co wrote/arranged what you never know? The sleeve notes credit Hayley with co-arranging What you Never Know, Both Sides Now and She Moves Through The Fair, as well as co-writing What you Never Know.

Ah, yes. The great Charlie Chaplin hit. It's many years since I heard a cover of that. Now that would be a good one for Hayley.

Oooooooo...! What I wouldn't give... to have Hayley put some of the tracks from WITA onto a future international release album! (I was never one of the lucky ones to get a copy of her original WITA album. The earliest album I own by Hayley is the self-titled one, Hayley Westenra.)
I'd love for Hayley to put the two songs she sang with Andrea Bocelli, on the recent NBC skating special, onto a future CD -- the songs Con Te Partiro, and Vivo Per Lei.
Additionally... if my fondest music "fantasies" could come true... I would have Hayley offer us the following songs on a future album:
-- Oblivion (composed by Astor Piazzolla)
-- a "vocalise" rendition of Pavane (composed by Gabriel Fauré)
-- Vocalise (composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff) -- I have an old cassette tape on which Anna Moffo sings this Rachmaninoff piece, and it blows me away every time!
-- The "flower" duet from the opera LAKME, composed by Delibes.
-- Bailero (from Chants d'Auvergnes).
-- Ombra Mai Fu (by Handel)
BTW... Do not "confuse" the above Pavane by Fauré with the Pavane by Ravel. She has already sung the Pavane by Ravel (in the form of "Never Say Goodbye") If you want to hear what the Pavane by Fauré sounds like, you might listen to a rendition of it sung by Barbra Streisand on her album entitled "Classical Barbra."

Hi Susan,
You make some good suggestions there and I wouldn't be surprised if she does some of them one day. I'm not saying which ones though coz I don't like being proved wrong!!
Faure's Pavane is lovely but I have never heard a vocalise version. If you want to start a petition to get her to sing that, I'll sign it!!
Best wishes, Roger
