Hi Roger and everyone else! Thank you very much indeed for the details Re: 'Wuthering Heights' video which you have made available for us , I was able to view the video perfectly! This is an excellent video. Hayley's performance is out of this world! It's obvious that Hayley holds this song very dearly to her heart - a very natural 'Cathy' she is too! I remember reading somewhere that Hayley and her mother Jill, used to play the original 'Kate Bush' version of 'Wuthering Heights' and dance around in Hayley's old London, Covent Garden flat! I have Kate Bush's vinyl boxed set collection, entitled, 'The Single File', CD version is 'The Whole Story' (The very 1st CD purchased by HWI Forum member, Richard!) which includes the 'Wuthering Heights' single, with, 'Kite' on the flip side. I would love to hear Hayley singing a cover of Kate Bush's 'The Man With The Child in His Eyes' too. Can anyone else appreciate how Hayley's voice would be well suited to this song? Regards, Andrew

Hi Roger, Oh silly me... I just noticed -your scanned images are from a DVD not a CD single! That would explain the slight difference in the images too. That is a very nice find on your part - I will have to look out for the DVD. Regards, Andrew

Hello Roger and Andrew! I managed to watch about half of the video, but then it kept stopping and starting. It may just be taking a very long time to load, so I'm going to try again tomorrow morning when the system's less busy. From what I've seen so far, it's an excellent video! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBye for now, Richard

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the initial feedback but I should explain that I had nothing to do with this video except to make the post to say that it as available!
It is so good to see it after such a long wait.
Roger

Hello again Roger and everybody! I've just watched the Windows Media version, which wasn't there yesterday afternoon, and it played perfectly! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifIt really is a fabulous video, and I hope Hayley will be allowed to release it on a DVD here in the UK eventually. The old house makes a wonderfully spooky setting and it looks vaguely familiar, so does anybody know where the video was filmed? Best Wishes, Richard

Hi all, It's unfortunate that Hayley wasn't able to release the video officially in UK. In fact, the Wuthering Heights video was rather popular in Canada (relatively speaking) and stayed at #1 on Bravo Canada's video countdown longer than Both Sides Now did... IMO it's the best video from the Pure album. A look back at video countdown in 2004 with 2 Hayley videos on the chart at the same time: web.archive.org/web/20041020020710/http://www.bravo.ca/television/videos/index.aspThat would be quite a tough record to beat 19 - Hayley Westenra - Wuthering Heights - Pure 20 - Elvis Costello - Monkey To Man - The Delivery Man 21 - Feist - One Evening - Let It Die 22 - Jamie Cullum - Wind Cries Mary - Twentysomething 23 - The Heavy Blinkers - The Night & I Are Still So Young - The Night & I Are Still So Young 24 - Hayley Westenra - Pokarekare Ana - Pure We need to show more support! May be one day, it'll be released on an official DVD. Allen

Hi Everybody, The concepts behind 'Wuthering Heights' not only provided Hayley with a source for inspiration, but also for numerous OTHER literary scholars too. There is a reference to a page of intriguing example essays which address 'Wuthering Heights', here: www.enotes.com/wuthering/I wonder if one of these essays was similar to the one which Hayley chose to submit for her academic English literature review/ critique' ? There is also a link to some interesting background information, about Kate Bush's 'Wuthering Heights' in addition to a clip from the song here: www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/soldonsong/songlibrary/wutheringheights.shtmlThis link, includes the following information (and more): "When Kate Bush unleashed 'Wuthering Heights' on the world in 1978 the public didn’t know quite what to make it of it. But they knew they liked it. One of the most daring, original singles ever – and a debut single at that – 'Wuthering Heights' was an instant success, staying at number one for a month. Kate was a precocious child and wrote her first song aged 13. When a family friend played her demo tape to Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour he helped her win a deal with EMI. The label paid for her to learn dance, mime, songwrite and other useful skills in preparation for her debut album, The Kick Inside. The move paid off. By the time she came to record it she’d written some 30 tracks, of which 'Wuthering Heights' was one. " The following quotation was sourced from the this ink: www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/soldonsong/whatson/wutheringheights.shtml"Her melodramatic adaptation of Emily Bronte's tale of doomed love on the windswept moors is like nothing before and very little since. In fact it's pretty much timeless." Here are some scanned images from my Kate Bush 'Wuthering Heights' single: ('Kite' features on the "flip-side" of this excellent single) Regards, Andrew

Hi All, Here is a rather nice picture of Kate Bush which is included within the booklet enclosed within the Kate Bush boxed set of vinyl singles, entitled: 'The Single File 1978~83'. I can imagine Hayley would be keen to try out a similar costume and dance, with her experience in modelling and ballet! Regards, Andrew

Hi All, Does anybody else (apart from Roger! ) have a copy of Hayley's Japanese 'Mini - Album' featuring: 'Wuthering Heights' ('new version' from 2004) Pokarekare Ana ('new version' from 2004) Hine e Hine ('acoustic version' from 2004) Away in a Manger Never Say GoodbyeIf you listen to Hayley's 'new version' of 'Wuthering Heights' on this CD, you will hear the difference from the earlier rendition of the song included on 'Pure'. Although Hayley's earlier version is good, the later one is MUCH stronger! and generally flows better in my opinion... Also, the 'acoustic version' of 'Hine e Hine' sounds really beautiful- a lot like the rendition of the song recorded exclusively for Classic FM (which often receives air play). I really love to listen to the 'acoustic' version sometimes... particularly if I can't get to sleep at night! The Japanese 'Hayley Mini Album' CD cover looks like this: View a larger image of this picture here: Regards, Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for sharing the images of the Wuthering Heights CD, It is a great song and I would love to hear her sing it live again, I am sure you read Hayley's book, as there is quite a piece on how Hayley insisted that Wuthering Heights was included against the wishes of the Decca hierarchy.
Boy did she make a good choice!
Best Wishes

Hi Steve, Great to hear from you Indeed I have read Hayley's book, 'The World at Her Feet' . In fact I've lost count of the number of times I have read that book! Yes, there was quite a saga there, in terms of management accepting that 'Wuthering Heights' should be included on 'Pure'. It's such a shame that it took Hayley's tears to persuade them to listen to her. I guess management considered the fact that 'Wuthering Heights' was such a "bolt out of the blue" when Kate Bush released it and feared that as a result, it would be difficult for any other singer to "carry it off". I'm so glad management listened to Hayley and that Steve, encouraged Hayley for "sticking to her guns"!!! Sorry about my over-use of metaphors in this post! Regards, Andrew

Hi Andrew. That post was a most interesting and very informative one regarding Kate Bush and links to her background.
I look forward to the time when Hayley feels she has a sufficient body of work behind her to be able to open up and allow a discussion on what makes her original creative side tick.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the info regarding Kate Bush...I enjoyed the pics of her WH single. I never knew how revolutionary it was when it was released in 1978. It is a song that Hayley really loves; and it took much persuasion by Hayley to include the song in 'Pure'.

Hayley tried to persuade the Decca folks so hard that she started to cry, if I remember the book correctly, and NOT as a blackmail tactic, just because she became so intense in her insistence.
It definitely would be interesting to see Hayley dance like Kate Bush, also an experienced dancer, in a video or stage performance, though I don't think she'd go so far as to do cartwheels.
