I was on the Forum minding my own business (actually I was updating my profile) when the following message appeared on a white screen stating: "Too many connections to the server - try again in 30mins".
Anything to worry about?

Hi Martin,
No, it is nothing to worry about. It simply means that there are too many people looking at all Proboards forums (not necessarily HWI) on the same server as ours (No 20). It is annoying when it happens but it is not very often, and it is a much less frequent occurence than it used to be.

Hello everybody! I occasionally see the same message, but it actually says "try again in 30 seconds". I think the last time I saw it was about six weeks ago on the AAI Forum, which is on server 66. Richard

Hi, A similar thing happened last week to me. I was experimenting with the 'preview' as I had tried to put an ebay link in and wanted to see if it was correct before I posted it. I was told that this was 'busy' and to try again later. All my post was lost and I had to start again from scratch. is this getting more common ? Graham

is this getting more common ? Not in my experience, Graham, but it may depend on the time of day and the resulting volume of internet traffic. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about it but we hope that members are no too inconvenienced. Roger

Graham Hi Graham, I too have lost posts on odd occasions, usually when I've been logged on for a limited period of time and forget about it... when I hit the "post" button it rejects me and it can't always be recovered. The "try again in 30 seconds" message has only occured rarely for me but the moral is that when writing a lengthy post, write it in Notepad (or regularly copy the text to Notepad etc.) and save it to the desktop until it's safely up in the forum. I say safely but Caitlin might disagree so it's probably best to save and keep all posts that took a lot of effort or time to prepare, in a folder set aside for them. Cheers, Dave

I had the "too many connections" on my own forum (on Proboards server 84) a few days ago. Proboards support were made aware of this and all looks good.

Hi Roger
Thanks for the info regarding the upgrade.
I've noticed on several occasions recently Proboards servers going down. It happened again this afternoon. I kept getting "Cannot find server" between about 4pm and 6.45 then again from about 7.45/8.00.
This hardly ever used to happen but it has happened twice recently. Hopefully the upgrade will cure whatever is causing this to happen.
Incidentally, it doesn't appear universal as our friends in the US were posting during this time.
Best wishes Grant

Hi Grant, I think it might have been more local than you think. I may not have posted but I was definitely looking at the forum at about 5:30 this evening! I will be putting in the upgrade request within the next hour. That doesn't mean it will happen immediately though. It could be any time thereafter. Roger

I know last time it happened Graham up in Stockton had a similar problem. Also there hasn't been much activity since teatime. Best wishes Grant

'Tis great to be here!
For the last week, the forum webpage has been misbehaving.
Refuses to show itself for hours at a time!
Nobody else has commented on this, so something must be my fault!
Nearly missed Drew's rose and Grant's Birthday!

Hi Paddy, I thought it was just me or our broadband provider so I said nothing Hi Comet, No problem at all today. Forum page opens fast! My broadband was perfect for all other websites except HWI. Probably something to do with recent proboards adjustments. Paddy
