Thanks grant. One more question....... stupid really but my mind is gone. What is the web address to the official forum please? Not stupid at all Erin, 'cos errr? I don't know the answer to that one, but I think the best idea is to send a PM. Are you a member of the other forum? Best wishes Grant

What the administrators should be looking for is a system like Roger's that removes non active members after a period of time so the 'total members' figure has some meaning. But as you say, Grant, it is only the Administrators who could do that. It is highly unlikely that a Moderator would be given the power to close other members' accounts. Personally, I am concerned that they are asking for volunteers to moderate the offical forum. Surely moderators should be appointed on merit. How will they *vet* anyone who volunteers? Although I have never said it publically, I have been approached on two previous occasions to moderate their forum. I refused both times for a whole host of reasons, one of which is that I don't see why Hayley's fans should do Decca's work for them. HWI is entirely different as it is basically our hobby. Erin, if you are seriously considering volunteering, let me know. If it helps, I will be pleased to send you the guidelines I wrote for our Moderators. Of course, the Official Forum may have slightly different rules... if they have any rules but the basic principals are likely to be the same. Roger

Thank you Dave. I would really appreciate if you would send me the guidlines you speak of.
I am really very serious..... even more so now that I see the complete mess that is there. Hayley deserves a LOT better than that!
If anyone were to cause that much trouble on my forum... they get kicked.
oh and btw ..... I checked........ no forum rules of any kind are posted anywhere.
It's a basic free for all.

Hi Erin, Er, actually, I'm Roger... I think! The "Guide to Moderating" contains a number of images which would not show up in a PM unless I hosted them. I am therefore sending it to you by email attachment. It should be with you in a few minutes. Dave Roger

I don't see why Hayley's fans should do Decca's work for them. HWI is entirely different as it is basically our hobby. Roger Hi Roger, I agree entirely ... Decca (and not the fans) should do Decca's work. It should be obvious to Decca that it's not in Decca's commercial interest (or the artists they have signed) to allow the ongoing 'mess' to continue. I presume the forum's administrator(s) are employed by Decca. If so, it seems a matter of hiring the right people who will do the job properly. If Decca really wants the problems sorted, Decca can well afford to employ skilled and enterprising administrators (and moderators). So, while one might be tempted to volunteer and help sort out the ongoing problems (for Hayley's sake), have we any reason to believe that Decca is taking the matter seriously this time? If Decca had any sense, they would scrap the 'official' forum and direct Hayley's fans to other more successful sites ... ... HWI shows that fansites run by dedicated fans work best. Indeed, it would be no surprise if Decca offerred to 'adopt' HWI as Hayley's 'official' forum. So ... well deserved compliments to Roger and Dave (especially) and to all the HWI members and moderators.Paddy

Hi Paddy, Many thanks for your very interesting observations with which, on the whole, I agree. In his defence, I believe that the Official Forum's Administrator is more than capable. What he lacks is time and adequate resources (ie, a team of moderators). I know that Hayley's is not the only forum that he looks after. He probably is in charge of forums for ALL of Decca's artists; at least the classical/crossover ones and, although I don't know for sure, it wouldn't surprise me if that was only part of his job. You are not the first to suggest that hw.com abandon their own forum and direct everyone to this one. Although that may be good for Hayley and for her fans, I can't see it ever happening. The official forum is a part of the official site which is provided as part of the contract they have with the artist. I don't believe they would pass full control of a forum to a bunch of fans, no matter how dedicated we might be. Roger
