I recently installed Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 on my computer, and now cannot get into the HWI forum without it prompting me to install an ActiveX control. When I use IE 6 on the laptop it works just fine. I'm confused! Why doesn't the newer version work on this site? Am I the only one who has experienced this problem?

Hi Nick, I didn't get the ActiveX bar, so I'm not sure what thats for.
You could always try Firefox2 instead.

Hi Nick,
I am not aware that you have to run ActiveX controls to get into this forum. In fact, when I disable ActiveX in IE6, it doesn't seem to change anything and it certainly doesn't stop me accessing the forum.
As I'm sticking with IE6 for a while longer, I'm afraid can't help you much regarding IE7 - I am wondering if it is something peculiar to your individual setup or settings? I'm sure that if others have problems using IE7 they will post about them in here.
Cheers, Dave

I have IE 5.5 and usually have ActiveX disabled most of the time.
For me, when ActiveX is disabled, I'll get a mesage saying that the page might not load correctly due to my security settings. The Skype ad and some Google ads need ActiveX enabled.
All I can offer is to see what your security settings say and have ActiveX enabled. See if that helps.

IE7 is a bit cluttered for my liking. It is essential you switch to it though, for security reasons. When playing streamed videos from HWI using FireFox2 they stop half way, so you have to use IE7 when playing those videos. But I would recommend switching to FireFox.

I think I finally figured it out. I adjusted some settings, and now it only "yells" at me occasionally; but at least I can browse and post on here now. Thanks, Jon, for your suggestion on Firefox. I may have to give that a try.

I had IE7 for a while and it wouldn't let me do hardly anything! It certainly wouldn't let me on here or click on any links, so my dad changed it back to IE6 and now everything is fine again.

I'm glad you have got it working, Nick. The other day I got this message on my computer: 'Internal error 124655. Your computer is running perfectly. Please download updates to restore periodic crashing' i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

I have installed Internet Explorer 7 and have not yet encountered any problem. On the contrary, since installing it, on one website I visit regularly, I get a message that Internet Explorer is blocking an add-on from ... Microsoft.
Three cheers for Microsoft - they now have released a product that is so good, it apparently blocks their own hidden add-ons to web pages. I for one am not in a hurry to go and unblock ....
