Dear Simon,
Is it possible to extend the number of Most Recent Posts beyond 30, perhaps on an individual basis (as in the profile for personal posts)?
With the likes of Cadogan Hall Revisted now extending to 20 pages (with a number of magnificent posts within the last 36 hours), it becomes increasingly difficult to catch up with news.
I returned home from Cadogan Hall at 01:45 Sunday morning and then went out to rugby in the pouring rain at 09:00, by the time I got back home again I could not believe the number of posts since originally leaving home on Saturday to attend the concert.
How hayleyw manages to catch up with what HWI has been up to behind her back I do not know, I can only presume that she keeps a laptop with her on every outing.

Hi Drew,
Yes, it is possible to extend the most recent posts to anything up to 100. However, that is likely to cause significant difficulty in loading the page, especially for anyone with dial-up. The default setting is 10, but we increased that to 20 and then to 30, believeing that was a reasonable compromise.
It is not a function that I tend to use. I prefer to follow the progress of each particular thread by looking at the icons to the left of each board on the menu page.
Incidentally, there is no point in addressing forum questions to Simon as he rarely looks at it. I am in charge of the forum with Dave as my more-than-worthy second in command. He and I are the only two who would be able to make the necessary adjustment.
Dave, what are your thoughts about changing it to 40 as a trial?
Roger

Hi Drew and Roger, This subject comes up regularly and I posted an entire thread about it - it's at the top of this very Technical Support board entitled " Search Button - it's there to help" I'm not in favour of extending the "Last 30 posts" for the reasons you mentioned, Roger - I think this is especially important now that lots of photographs are posted and it must already be slow at times for members with dial-up connections to load the "Last 30" page, those who like to use it (quite a few I suspect - although I know you don't use it, Roger ). What I do is first hit the "Last 30" button, check the bottom post to see if I've already seen it and if not, I use the Search method to get the last 50 or more, or the last day or two if necessary. Why not give it a try Drew? Let me know if you have any problems with that "Search" method (when you need it). Cheers, Dave

Thanks Dave and Roger (and apologies for not directing the enquiry to you in the first place).
I have tried the search (and blank filter). 10MB Broadband seems happy to download 100 posts. I am sure that it would cope with many more if I was to be away from a mouse for more than 48 hours.
As if.

What I do in that scenario is to go to search and at the bottom change the number of posts to what I guess will take me to where I last visited. A good average is 30 per day. The other day this meant running back through 250 posts. However, you do have to be careful about replying. Watch the bottom left of the screen. Post, let the refresh settle then do two clear back stops not too quickly. The board can be very slow when you have a list of several hundred posts in a search list and this could be why there is relu=ctance to extend the number. This has been discussed before and one has to bear in mind balance of speed against balance of ease. Hope this helps. There may be other ways of playing with the search mechanism but I haven't had time to Play. By the by, a quick scroll down the list is comparatively easy if you have a distinctive avatar. I simply scroll down until i see my grinning face and know that was the last point at which i interacted. I'm rarely on without making at least one contri bution.. Peter S.

Sticking my oar in if I may although you do say 'trial' the point at issue is the load of posts for any missing length of time!
I tend to use the 'last 30' option solely as I have a diverse interest in the collective whole and even with those threads that do not interest me or I feel i do not have any knowledge to productively contribute, it helps even glancing through them to keep in touch generally..

Hello everybody! I much prefer to look for the 'new' icons and read the new posts thread by thread. When there are a lot of new posts in different threads, using the 'most recent' or 'search' functions can break up the discussion, making it difficult to follow. I normally use the search function afterwards and scroll through quickly just to see if I missed anything. Best Wishes, Richard

I think the search function is limited to 1,000 and that does work but it does require a fast connection and extreme care when doubling back having posted. You must allow time for the page to refresh otherwise you suddenly lose the entire thread and have to start again. If you do have to start again, then ask for a different number of osts or it may refuse to work telling you it can't find any at all! Peter S.
