I already plugged her in the official forum, but here goes. Eivør Pálsdóttir' (pronounced I-ver Powllsdottr) is an incredibly talented 23 year old singer-songwriter from the Faroe Islands who is classically trained, but is also comfortable singing Jazz, Country, Rock or traditional Faroese music. She has three complete songs available for download at www.eivor.com/Default.asp?sida=700There's four songs on her myspace page www.myspace.com/eivorpalsdottir

Eivør's just completed a brand new CD called "Human Child" with an all-Irish group. Here's the official details: Human Child, Ms Pálsdóttir's latest release, is produced by Irishman Dónal Lunny (Sinéad O'Connor, Rod Stewart, Paul Brady, Elvis Costello) and features a host of Irish top musicians- including Mr Lunny are Anthony Drennan on guitars (The Corrs, Clannad, Paul Brady, Genesis), Liam Bradley on drums (Ronan Keating, Van Morrison), Noel Eccles on percussion (U2, Van Morrison, Sting, The Chieftains, Hothouse Flowers, Elvis Costello). Are we looking at the next additon to Celtic Woman here - just kidding - All her previous CDs are outstanding so I'm really looking forward to this one! The 3 songs that were available at the link in the previous post aren't there anymore (sigh). She does have some newer live recordings at her MySpace page(none from Human Child yet) www.myspace.com/eivorpalsdottir

Throughout the HWI website, I've come across various comparisons of Hayley's voice, background and personality to other artistes. I haven't yet seen mention of some striking resemblances I perceive to some other performers - Celine Dion, Gwyneth Herbert (Durham), etc. ... AND Eivor Palsdottir (Faroe Islands). Having listened with fascination to her fifth album, 'Human Child' (almost entirely in English), released on 18th July, I very much regret missing her concert in Dublin on 12th August. Hope to see her soon, either in Kilkenny (14th Aug) or Cork (15th Aug). Perhaps some more seasoned members will think me a bit 'off beam', if I suggest that she resembles Hayley quite closely in voice, background, repetoire and personality. What do you think? Anyone heard of her? If you're curious, take a look at her website: www.eivor.com/Default.asp?sida=676Paddy From Eivor's website: " At the age of 12, Eivør had her first foreign debut as a soloist with a Faroese choir, touring Italy. Well before her foreign debut, she was a well-known musical talent in the Faroe Islands. As a young teen, she performed with local bands and musicians, but soon she became a driving force in the musical scene in the Faroes.
At the age of 16, she decided to leave formal schooling behind and dedicated herself full-time to her music. She moved to Iceland to study music and voice, and soon became a famous and much sought-after artist there.
Word quickly spread about this young Faroese talent and now the world beckons. What makes her so powerful? It is her unique integration of a magical voice, her inviting charisma, her consummate skill and her openness and warmth of soul.
She feels as comfortable performing a country ballad or a rock song, as a classical aria or a jazz tune. One of her strongest trademarks is the a cappella rendition of old Faroese ballads or psalms, as well as and her own magical songs. They always leave the audience utterly stunned and awestruck. The magic is pervasive.
Besides her own bands and solo performances, she is the first choice of many an international artist, and has performed with a variety of musicians and ensembles, including Bill Bourne, the Kasa Ensemble and the Danish Radio Big Band." (Above quote copied by Joe as posted by Paddy, from a duplicated thread here.) ------------- Hi Bob, Great to know Eivor has another admirer. I have her latest CD, 'Human Child' and it's really great. Seems like she needs some serious media promotion (like Hayley) to do herself justice and make her name internationally. I'm very sorry I was unable to go to her concert on 12th in Dublin. Best wishes from Ireland. Paddy

Hi Paddy! I first heard about her on Hayley's Official Site. She does indeed have extraordinarily pleasant voice. I hope she succeeds in finding a worldwide audience. (Copied by Joe from a duplicated thread here .)

Hi Bob and Steve,
Yes she's fantastic. I've just experienced this first hand for the first time. Just heard her last night in Kilkenny (Ireland). Such energy and enthusiasm! And she's a really sincere and lovely person.
I hope she can be tempted back to Ireland.
Best Regards, Paddy

Hi comet, Great to hear from you again. Eivor's latest cd, 'Human Child' was released on 18th July. You are unlikely to find it in Ireland for a while yet - unless you put in a special order. Amazon.co.uk has just one of Eivor's previous cds and it is quite pricey there. (No problem to anyone who pays £50 for a Hayley cd?). You can order from TUTL in the Faroe Islands. Prices are more reasonable, especially if you order in US dollars rather than euros. Postage is the same for any number of cds, just over €4. Also, delivery is fairly prompt. Try this link (rather than tutl.com directly): www.tutl.com/webshop/index.php?PHPSESSID=fb342489c7407b2e27d3c7988ea26690&searchstring=eiv%F8r&x=0&y=0Believe me you won't regret it. You can even buy the latest cd in Faroese. I'm sad that I couldn't make it to the NCH and Cork Opera House as well! But I drove all the way to Kilkenny in the rain to hear her and, believe me, it was worth every mile. You can hear clips of some of her songs on: www.eivor.com/Default.asp?sida=676or www.myspace.com/eivorpalsdottirHappy listening, Best Regards, Paddy

Hi Paddy,
I discovered Eivor while auditioning some CDs at the station I work at here in Portland, Maine. It was her 3rd CD, simply called "Eivor." It's still my favorite. The musical chemistry between her and guitarist Bill Bourne is amazing.
Her first CD was sent my way along with a huge bundle other releases by Kristian Blak, the owner of Tutl Records. It's an impressive first solo effort by someone who was only 17 at the time.
I just got hold of "Human Child" through Tutl as well.
I play her stuff regularly on my program & usually get some very nice listener comments

Hi Bob,
Great to hear from you. It seems not many other fans of Eivør on HWI.
I discovered Eivør recently this past summer, when I heard her on radio just before her three concerts in Ireland. I managed to get to the second one in Kilkenny. I now wish I had been able to go to all three.
Her cds are great. Like you, I prefer 'Eivør' and 'Human Child'. I could listen to them forever.
Seeing and hearing her in concert is a fantastic experience. She is quite a performer. Warm and friendly but quite intense. Her personality radiates throughout an audience, creating instant rapport.
Keep on playing her enchanting music and, if you have any influence, persuade her to come back to Ireland very soon.
Best Wishes from Ireland.
Paddy

Hi again Paddy,
Have you heard Eivør recordings with the group Yggdrasil. She's excellent on the group's self-titled CD that came out few years ago. She's also featured on their "Live in Rudolsstadt" CD and "Tübingen Concert" DVD. They're also available from Tutl's webshop.
I'll ask Kristian if another Irish tour is in the works next time I e-mail him. He told me Yggdrasil is coming to the states next year. I hope Eivør is singing with them!!

Hello again, Bob,
Thanks for the info.
I didn't realise that Eivør featured prominently on those discs. I can now look forward to another packet from Føroyar, thanks to you.
I hope you succeed in encouraging Kristian to think of Ireland (and USA) next year. I notice Eivør is off to Japan soon. I wish her success.
Did you have the pleasure of hearing Eivør live?
Paddy

Hi Bob, Thanks to you, I've just listened to those CDs They're great. Quite a different style to her latest CDs. She has quite a varied repetoire. I'd love to hear her sing some 'classical' numbers. Kristian said that Eivør will come back to Ireland. Sadly, he didn't say when! It'll be worth waiting for. Hopefully, next year. Best Wishes, Paddy Eivør enjoying her singing in Kilkenny in August:

Hi Paddy, Glad to hear Eivør will be appearing in Ireland again! If you liked those Yggdrasil CDs you may also want to check out their 25th year retrospective 2-disc set, Askur. Another vocalist from that part of the world that I really enjoy is Margrét Eir from Iceland www.myspace.com/margreteirmusic Norwegian singer Elin Synnøve Bråthen who records under the name Eliksir is also well worth checking out too. www.myspace.com/eliksir Take care, Bob
