I got a CD called Cynara... ? Any good? I don't know why I chose that one, the first one I came across I guess! Cynara is another good choice, it's the first I ever bought too. However, Michael McGlynn is very critical of it.. the following quotes are from the Q&A section of his site: (referring to the old cover, it now has a new one). All I can say is, I heartily disagree! Enjoy the album!

Hey Oksy,
It arrived and I have listened to it.
Whilst the voices are wonderful, I really didn't like the tracklisting. I'd rather the composer compose more original songs than having yet another choir singing yet make choral classics.
I see where he is coming from about the cover... lol! It looks kind of tacky.
But the CD isn't that bad. The choral arrangements are wonderful. The production is a bit off for me (echoes!).
If they have more original discs, I may go for them?

The cover is a new one? Well, if the one before was worse then he could only be right! Lol! Thanks for the recommendation Oksy, always appreciated.

Hi Nicola, I'm glad you liked Anuna. Yes, they mostly do covers, but their interpretations are extraordinary, often unusual, and perhaps not immediately likeable; which makes them so different from any other choir. Somehow, they manage to add real depth and soul to overdone songs, without making it cheesy. I'd listen to their versions of old classics any day! I really wish they'd come here sometime. Their performances are masterpieces, just take a look at this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nTfx-3xDkwOksy

Anuna concert on some PBS channels this week. The chorale ensemble Anuna performs "Celtic Origins", a variety of songs at Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland, including arrangements of popular songs and compositions of British, Gaelic, Latin and Greek origins. This was a wonderful concert on TV last night. I won't list all of the songs, but here's a partial list: Siúil a Rúin Dúlamán Greensleeves Scarborough Fair Annie's Song Fionnghuala Gaudete Song of Oisin I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marble Halls Sanctus The Blue Bird Pie Jesu The closed-captioning was excellent...great to see every word of the Gaelic lyrics on the screen! Some videos from the show: A MUST SEE... www.anuna.ie/sounds.htm Joe

As I mentioned sometimes in the past I just love Anúna, and someone from inside the group has been posting more and more videos quite regularely. Here are two of the last ones posted: I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marble Halls - Méav has sung this song many times, and she surely does a great job, but, wow, the soloist here, Miriam I think, is so incredible! Sanctus - How they can create such a magical sound? And all the four soloists here are spectacular. Michal

Hi Guys,
Yes, I saw Anuna live once on one of there rare appearances in the UK. The hall was half empty and they were fabulous. Some of their stuff I'd never heard the like of before. If they ever appeared anywhere near me again, I'd be there like a shot.
