On this site you see a lot of posts about female crossover artists but not so much about male ones, hmmm... I wonder why, . Ok I'm just being bad! lol. The 3 in the poll are the 3 biggest males in the crossover business, as far as I know anyways. It'll be interesting to see who comes out on top!

Hello again Natasha! I'm not a great lover of male singers, as I've said before, but I've voted for Russell Watson because he helped Hayley when she was starting out on the road to international success, so I'll always be grateful to him for that. I also like the duet with Hayley on his second video, which is also on Hayley's DVD. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBye for now, Richard

I think 'I dreamed a dream' on Hayley's DVD is not a duet. So, you mean Hayley is on one of the DVD of Russell? Cheers, Raymond

Hello Raymond! Thank you for pointing out my little mistake. You're quite right, "I Dreamed A Dream" is not a duet, but Hayley does sing "Pokarekare Ana" as a duet with Russell Watson on his second live DVD. Sorry if I caused any confusion there! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest Wishes from London, Richard

Hello Richard and Raymond, I also voted for Russell - not because I think he's a "better singer" than Andrea (whom I thought about voting for) but because I just "like his style". He seems to be a really nice, down-to-earth guy with an enjoyable voice and yes, he has indeed helped Hayley along the way. I've also seen him do duets with Hayley on UK TV - the last one on a charity show late at night last year I think... (Red Nose Day?) However... if Mario Lanza had been in the poll, I might have had to choose differently!!! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifRaymond, Hayley sings three times on Russell's "Live" DVD recorded in Auckland. There's the solo of "I Dreamed A Dream", the duet of Pokarekare Ana and a very nice trio with Hayley, Russell and Faye Tozer singing "Now is The Hour". I'd certainly recommend this DVD to all Hayley fans - as long as they also like Russell Watson, of course!

Yeah, the DVD is great! Russell is amazing on there and so is one of his guest stars by the name of Hayley Westenra... Man that name seems familar - where have we heard it before?? LOL.
I do think Russell has a better voice than Andrea but that's just my personal opinon. Its just that Russell has this color to his voice that makes it sound alive and this color is missing from Andrea although he has a nice voice - but then lots of you will probably disagree with me on this one!

I choice was not based on who has the better voice but simply which one do I enjoy hearing the most. That made this a very easy decision - Andrea.
I agree with Dave though. Had Mario been there, my vote would also have gone to him. But I don't mean Mario Lanza, I mean Mario Frangoulis who was Hayley's guest during the Winter Tour.

I put Russell as to be honest andrea does not do anything for me his voice is weak and it has nothing to it is very boring and I do not think of josh groban as classical crossover.I also think color is missing from andrea's voice it to me is just an easy listening voice. What I like about Russell's voice is he has an edge to it .
But that said I also think Hayley lack's color too she does not have the emotion or color in her voice that Katherine and yulia have but she does have perfect pitch. And about judgeing who are better singer's is a matter of personnal taste.

I do not think of josh groban as classical crossover Hmm... I thought Josh Groban was the most classical crossover-y one in the poll. I haven't heard enough from Russel and Andrea to pariticipate, and while I really like his work, I don't think Josh is strong enough to get my vote.

Recent comments here prompt me to post a question that I nearly asked last night. I refrained for fear of appearing foolish. However, you are used to that by now so here we go!... Is it possible that we hear voices differently to one another? For example, Stephanie has said that Andrea's voice lacks colour whereas she feel's Russell's has an edge to it. I know exactly what she means but, for me, it is the other way round. Sure, it comes down to a matter of personal taste but is it as simple as that? Or do we really hear them differently, do our brains interpret what we here differently, or have I just made a fool of myself?! Your thoughts, ladies and gentlemen, please. Roger

Hello Roger! This is a very difficult question, because I've never heard how someone else hears things! I don't know whether we all see visual colours the same either. Are there any experts out there? Actually young people usually have sharper hearing than older people, but we're still in our prime. Well we were once! Bye for now, Richard

Roger, your question reminded me of something I saw a few days ago on the Discovery Channel. They did an experiment with baby ferrets. They showed them a video of the Matrix, and then showed them a video of black and white pixels moving around, and they found out that the young animals reacted in the same way to both videos -- in other words, they saw the same thing. They said that it's possible baby humans work the same way -- they don't see what's really there, but their perception changes to fit ours as they grow up. Then the scientist went on to pose a very interesting question: Is what we see really what is there? When we see the color orange, could we really be seeing some other color? When we hear a tenor, could we actually be hearing a really high, squeaky voice? What if all our perceptions are incorrect? What if "we construct our own version of reality?" You can watch the video here, very interesting stuff: www.exn.ca/dailyplanet/view.asp?date=1/26/2005So, there are two possible answers to your question: 1. We’re all babies. 2. Even as adults, we all perceive things differently than they are, just like the scientist said. But, we also have different perceptions from each other -- hence different tastes and opinions. And I have to say, from the samples that I have heard, I agree with your opinion about Russel and Andrea. I think that means Stephanie’s a baby! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif (Just kidding!)

Thank you Someone. You have answered my question perfectly. I have watched the video and conclude that the baby ferrets merely saw a sequence of ever-changing light patterns but it wasn't until they grew older that they learned to recognise what those lights represented. I think this could make a fascinating discussion but, before we drift totally off-topic (haha), back to the question of the human voice and how we hear it. I suspect that if we judged several voices in a purely scientific way, and measured them for pitch, tone, colour etc using precision instruments, we would all reach the same conclusion about who is the best singer in the world. However, we are dependent upon our sense of hearing, the message that it conveys to the brain and the way the brain interprets those messages, which is partially based on any influences present during our formative years. Hence, we each have our favourite singers but do not necessarily agree on who they are. Which raises one more question..... How come we all love Hayley? Roger

Hayley sings so many different styles that at least one appeals to nearly everybody. Then there's the little matter of Hayley's looks and personality. Need I go on?!!! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSee you on 22nd September, Richard
