Anyone heard Sissel singing "She Walks in Beauty LIke the Night" during the beginning of the Vanity Fair movie? It's rather pretty. I heard that song and it is very nice.

Hello, fellow-fans of Hayley and of Sissel!
I have to say, of all the female voices in the world, Hayley's is my most very *favorite* (naturally!), but Sissel's is a very, very close second!!
I have two of Sissel's CDs -- the only ones ever released in the USA -- "Sissel" and "My Heart." One of my MOST favorite songs on the "My Heart" album is a song written by an Argentine composer whose name was Astor Piazzolla. This delightful song is entitled "Oblivion." Sissel does a magnificent job with it, and I would love to hear Hayley do a treatment of the song, someday!
NEW... BREAKING NEWS on the Sissel scene.... It has just recently been announced by Sissel's record label that she will be releasing a brand-new album in the UK on 23rd January, 2006. Sissel's newest album will contain two songs that have already been done by "our" Hayley!
The name of Sissel's upcoming album will be Into Paradise, and two of her featured songs which we already know and love (from Hayley's ODYSSEY) will be: -- Bachianas Brasileiras' Aria (Cantilena) -- Dido's Lament
I (personally) don't care for Dido's Lament, but I am greatly anticipating the opportunity to hear Sissel sing the vocalise Aria from Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5!
She is much older than Hayley, and has had much more formal voice training, so her voice is much more powerful. It shall be interesting to hear how she handles the Aria.

My favourite song of hers is 'Should It Matter' and 'Where The Lost Ones Go'. They are both lovely songs Hi, Nicola! I also adore Sissel, and my favourite song of hers is "Oblivion" which is found on her 2004 classical crossover album entitled My Heart. On that same album, she also does a terrific duet version of Schubert's Ave Maria, with Bryn Terfel. By the way... ATTENTION... LATEST breaking Sissel NEWS... As previously announced, her newest album, Into Paradise, will be released in the UK on 23rd January, 2006. IN ADDITION TO THAT... Decca (Universal) has just announced that Into Paradise will be released in the USA on 14th February, 2006. That coincides with St. Valentine's Day! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI'm wondering if all the tracks shall be the same on both releases (UK and USA). I hope that they don't remove Bachianas Brasileiras from the American release, as they did with Hayley's Odyssey album!

Ok - in keeping with the season, here's a clip from Sissel from 1987, "O Holy Night" in Norwegian "O Helga Natt". You can also download it from: www.sissel.cc/listen2sissel.htmlBut as I think this is a beautiful version, I provide a direct link for those of you who have never visited that download page - with early Happy Christmas wishes to you! And if you enjoy this - there's lots of very nice material at the Sissel page. Gerrit www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/misc/O_helga_natt.mp3This really is a stunning version of one of my favourite Christmas songs! Gerrit

Hi everyone!
I love Sissel's voice, especially on the higher notes. She does them effortlessly.

I was told, by a PBS recruiter, that Sissel is coming to the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Pa. US. on October 12 2006, to promote her new CD. Its probably to early to verify, I hope it doesn't conflict with Hayley's tour........TimJ

Thanks for the information, Tim. If the event is confirmed, will you be going? There are not many singers I would go to see but I would certainly make an effort to see Sissel. Unfortunately, Philadelphia is a bit far for me though. Roger

Roger, If it doesn't conflict with A Hayley concert, I would go. I was told at Hayley's Showcase in New York, October 2005, that they were trying to put a tour together for Fall 2006. That timeframe may move about, but its good to have a plan. I'll try to find out about the tour next week....TimJ

I was told, by a PBS recruiter, that Sissel is coming to the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Pa. US. on October 12 2006, to promote her new CD. .....TimJ Hi, Tim! I'm not sure where that PBS recruiter got their information, but I found a DIFFERENT date posted on the Internet, regarding Sissel's live concert in Philadelphia in October. (BTW, it seems that Sissel cannot be in Philadelphia on October 12th, because she appears to be booked into a venue in the city of Chicago on that date!) If you go to the website of WLVT-TV (the PBS affiliate station located in Allentown/Bethlehem), you will see that they have reported a Sissel concert date of Saturday, October 7, 2006 for her performance in Philadelphia. What's more... they are saying that the concert is to be held at The Academy of Music, and NOT at the Kimmel Center, in Philadelphia. The Academy of Music is located one block away from the Kimmel Center, which might explain the confusion. I believe that the URL for WLVT-TV is: www.wlvt.orgIf you go there (on your web browser), you should browse in the "Support" section of their website. That is where they *include* the following incentive of 2 tickets... I have given you the link for it, here below... secure.wlvt.org/Join/step1.cfm?pmPROG=10305Elsewhere on this message board I had previously posted the following message (it was in the Sissel Audio topic)... <<At least four specific PBS television stations have, on their individual websites, announced "Thank You" gifts of 2 TICKETS to a live concert to be given by Sissel in a venue local to their viewing area, during the month of October, 2006. (They are currently urging would-be members to donate now, before these tickets go on sale to the general public.) Well... THIS IS HOW I KNOW THAT THESE TICKETS EVENTUALLY WILL BECOME AVAILABLE FOR SALE, TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC (and shall undoubtedly cost far **less** than the $200 which PBS want as a donation)! You understand... we have all seen this done before, for example... by WLVT-TV in Easton, Pennsylvania (prior to the special concert which our Hayley gave there, last October). Anyway... based upon information recently gleaned from WLIW (in NYC), from WLVT (in Allentown/Bethlehem), from KETC (in St. Louis, Missouri) and from WTTW (in Chicago, Illinois)... HERE ARE (at the very least) A LISTING OF FOUR "KNOWN" LIVE CONCERT APPEARANCES BY SISSEL, WHICH ARE CURRENTLY SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE in OCTOBER, 2006: Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at 8 PM: The Town Hall, 123 West 43rd Street, New York, NY. Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 8 PM: The Academy of Music, Broad & Locust Sts., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (this is the performance currently being promoted by WLVT-TV, in Allentown) Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 7:30 PM: Touhill Performing Arts Center, St. Louis, Missouri Thursday, October 12, 2006 at 7:30 PM: Park West Theatre, 322 W. Armitage, Chicago, Illinois. >>

Hi there! I just read your conversation about Sissel's music. Nice. I'm running a website about her (unfortunately it's down for the moment but will hopefully be up running soon). If you need lyrics to any of her songs, let me know, I might have them. Someone also mentioned that Sissel has two songs also sung by HW on her album. Dido's lament and Bachianas Brasileiras'. Actually she has also sung "She Moves Through The Fair" but never released it. "O Mio Babbino Caro" on her "Sissel in symphony" album from 2002 - which was a live recording. And Pokare kare ana as mentioned appears on her 1989 record, "Soria Moria", where you can also find "Amazing Grace". Her later live versions of this song is much better though. Sissel in symphony samples You can listen to some samples from Sissel's albums here: lytteposten --> type "sissel" in the box in the right corner (Nordisk vinternatt & De beste 1986-2006) www.sissel-online.dkwww.sissel.cc/snakke --> Sissel discussion forum

Hi Folks. Ahhh now that you mention Sissel again, she has a DVD "All good things" she has a lovely cheeky down to earth manner , a pleasure to watch and listen to. Thanks for reminding me to take her out and blow the dust off her.
Too much Hayley causes neglect of the rest of the collection, variety is the spice and all that.......................................................

I think its because I miss being around English spoken with a Norwegian accent - could be all the happy memories as well Lene is also very talented in terms of writing her own songs...
