I'm pretty sure Roger's covered this point on at least one other occasion, but I've been literally swamped with requests today...
The sale (or gifting) of Tartan ties (or any form of HW tartan) is NOT an option open to us. Unless, that is, you can find a long lost NZ (or Irish) Westenra in your family tree - and prove it in sufficient time and along with your request!
Hayley's tartan is Westenra "Clan" specific, and ONLY those bearing that family name are allowed (or face the wrath of the Scots) to wear it.
Soz... But that's the name of the game. NO TARTAN ALLOWED.

Please ignore Simon's post at the beginning of this thread which I believe to be completely wrong. As I understand it, Andrew very kindly had the Westenra tartan registered in such a way that all HWI members are entitled to wear it.
Andrew, please confirm.

As I understand it, Andrew very kindly had the Westenra tartan registered in such a way that all HWI members are entitled to wear it. Andrew, please confirm. Roger Hi All, I will confirm the truth of the matter with regard to the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan here... As the tartan designer and copyright owner, my intention was for the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan to serve as a commemorative design and a tribute to Hayley and her family. The tartan design has been officially registered by the 'Scottish Tartans Authority' on the "International Tartan Index". I registered the tartan for "Resticted Use" which essentially means that anybody wishing to order tartan products with this design, has to request permission from me first unless of course they happen to be members of the Westenra family... i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif I am more than willing to grant permission to any members of 'HWI' who wish to order tartan products in the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" design, since the tartan should be used as far as possible to support and promote Hayley, her family and Hayley's outstanding work! My intention was that the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan should be worn by individuals who are genuinely proud of Hayley and appreciate her outstanding work, as opposed to individuals choosing the tartan on the merits of liking the colours or design of the tartan. So the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan may indeed be worn with pride by any members of 'HWI' i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif. The Scottish Tartans Authority will inform me if anybody requests to use the design, but indeed all members of 'HWI' are most welcome to order "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan products! Any more questions... Please ask! Oh yes... BTW the " Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan thread is: hereYou may also read my report about it at the link below too: www.electricscotland.com/tartans/story14.htm Regards, Andrew

Hi Belinda, Hayley's tartan design can be viewed online at the 'House of Tartan' websites which are at the following locations: www.houseoftartan.comwww.houseoftartan.co.ukFrom either of these links, select the 'Tartan Finder' (Database of World Tartans) Search under "W" Scroll down to Tartan # 6384 'Westenra of Christchurch NZ' From there, you can select the 'View Products in this Tartan' button or select the 'Shop for Fabrics and Products' option at the top of the screen (from there search through various categories such as "Tartan Accessories" and "Leisure" to view more items which can be produced in the tartan). Hayley's tartan sash was a custom weave order. It was a different order from the "silk sash" option which you can see in the products list. I first designed the tartan and then arranged for it to be woven (as a "special weave" fabric). The tartan was then officially registered with 'The Scottish Tartans Authority' (who have yet to update their database with the new tartan design). The woven fabric was then sent to the sashmakers, who produced Hayley's sash for me. Richard, I must take this opportunity to thank you for your inspiration. One of Richard's jokes about me swapping my kilt for NZ national dress and imagining Hayley dressed in a kilt was a catalyst for me designing a tartan for Hayley! Please note, there is a thread for "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan ties hereRegards, Andrew

'House of Tartan' are prepared to produce tartan bow tie and cummerbund sets in the 'Westenra of Christchurch NZ' tartan design as "one-off" orders... Would you like me to order one for you? I know you specified your preference for bow ties... I would imagine that you might prefer the genuine "tie your own bow" variety as opposed to the "quick... I've only got time for a clip on" variant. Does this ring true? Regards, Andrew the bespoke tailor

The answer is an emphatic 'YES', please. So if they come as a set you can forget the second bow tie as a spare. Are their handkershiefs for the top pocket, or shall i assume I can always obtain a pink rose? Oh, and yes, please, self-tie. I thought it was only waiters and policemen who wore the pre-fixed type. Peter Hi Peter, You are quite right there... Clip on ties are often invested in as a safety measure by policemen and waiters who run the risk of being strangled by some members of the general public! Don't you think though that keen concert attenders (like us) who "never leave" concert venues after shows, run a similar risk of being strangled by members of concert hall staff? (who have been waiting for 3 hours for us to leave!) This was merely a passing thought! Andrew

There is simply NO way that "bad taste" clip on ties would EVER be produced in the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan design... i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSorry to all the policemen and waiters out there! Hi Andrew! It is a joke often shared between Roger and I that while neither of us (well, at least I haven't and I don 't think he has ) been thrown out of a pub at all, there is a certain distinction in having been thrown out of a theatre because we over-stayed our welcome with Hayley Westenra! Roger has the added distinction of actually being thrown our of the Royal Albert Hall WITH Hayley (and possibly Jill too) through the same door. When that's happened to me I've gone one way and she's gone the other! Peter
