The nominations for the Tui Awards (a NZ music award) were announced on 26 Aug. Hayley is up for the international achievement award, and also the best solo female artist award. I'm rather disappointed that Hayley isn't up for highest-selling album. Expected to win that is a hip-hop star called Scribe. The 39th annual awards ceremony is at the Aotea Centre in Auckland on September 22. Read the article from stuff.nz.com here... www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3014304a4500,00.html

I'm rather disappointed that Hayley isn't up for highest-selling album. Aaah but she is, here is the full list of nominations. I can't see how Pure can fail to win the award for NZ's "Highest Selling Album" - whatever that other website says. Bic Runga is her only rival with a 10X platinum album - which took a lot longer to achieve than Hayley's 11x platinum. Scribe has no chance, his album disappeared out of the charts in June this year with a mere 4x platinum award and it was knocked off the top by Pure after only one week As I understand it, this year's awards cover the period from Spring 2003 (when the last awards were held) to date. What the website probably meant was that Scribe should get the "Best Album" award - Pure wasn't even nominated for that award, probably because it was not produced in NZ. Hayley is pretty well guaranteed to get the "International Achievement" award - she leaves Bic Runga and Scribe trailing in her wake Internationally, over the last year. Hayley also deserves to win "Best Female Solo Artist" IMO, she's up against Bic Runga and Brooke Fraser and it seems to be based on their latest Albums. I have a sneaky suspicion that the NZ judges will tend to go for a NZ singer with a locally produced album, rather than one produced in the UK - so Hayley may lose out through judges' snobbery - a bit like the Classical Brits (grrr!). I hope not. So, I think Hayley will win at least two awards and possibly all three that she is nominated for. Fingers crossed!

Hmmm, thought so. Two wins for Hayley (yes!!!) in the International Achievement & Highest Selling NZ Album sections, but Brooke Fraser won the "Best Female Solo". Still, they had to let Brooke win two of her six nominations, I suppose. Politics, pah! She ain't a bad singer - not in Hayley's class though Full results and video clips here.NZ Herald story here.Oh, Hayley was the *only* singer who could beat Scribe - she beat him in two of his nine nominations, he beat everyone else, winning the other seven.
Well done Hayley!![/color]

Hi guys, I have resurrected this thread after Stephany posted some photos in another thread of Hayley at the NZ Music (TUI) Awards 2004. This included photos of Hayley singing "Fools Love" with The Misfits of Science and reminded me that I've had sitting on my PC for a few years a short video clip of that very performance! The TVNZ programme Squeeze broadcast a 20 minute in-depth report on Hayley's early career and her involvement in the 2004 Music Awards, which Belinda (of course ) recorded on VHS tape and posted to Gerrit in the Netherlands. Gerrit digitised, edited and compressed the video and it's been on his site for a long time now - but not on HWI where it should also be. So I've now put that right and I have also uploaded the short clip of Fools Love - if you haven't already seen this, it is a 'must'. Well that's the story; here are the videos: Hayley and the hip-hoppers - Fools LoveSqueeze 20 minute report complete (thanks Belinda & Gerrit!) And it's off to bed for me! Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave, I knew there was a topic about this somewhere...how could you miss this? Hehe - very well done. Thank you for posting again the two excellent clips. I was lucky enough to see them earlier thanks to Graeme&Marianne (aren't they sweet? . Hayley's association with Misfits of Science is very unusual but she did very well. Especially at the end when the music stops and she continues... WOW!! The other interview is REALLY amazing. Very, very interesting. Thank you Gerrit, Belinda & Dave!! Stephany

Thanks for posting the videos, Dave! The Squeeze report is fascinating, and it's good to see Jill again. I also spotted Steve Abbott with Hayley as she was preparing for the rehearsal. That report was recorded nearly three years ago, but Hayley is clearly just as enthusiastic about her career now! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest Wishes, Richard

Thank you for the videos Belinda, Dave and Gerrit! They are so great! Until now I only remember that I've seen some pictures of Hayley's performance with the Misfits but never heard her singing in a hip-hop band. Very stunning performance. Thomas
