This was the album that got me hooked on Hayley, so obviously, the answer is no! I'm shocked someone would even come up with a poll like this. The only thing disappointing, more like frustrating, was the record company's decision to scatter songs on various versions of the album, causing everyone to miss at least one song, unless they bought another version. That's the only thing I didn't like, but that was not Hayley's fault. I am so glad they didn't do that with Paradiso (they did to some extent with Treasure). I hope they don't go back to that again on her next album, if the reason for not doing it on Paradiso was because of Ennio Morricone. Or maybe Hayley put her foot down and disallowed it! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Many of my favorite songs were released on Odyssey ('Quanta Qualia', 'The Mists Of Islay', 'Dell'Amore Non Si Sa', 'Bridal Ballad', ect...) but there are a few disappointing songs (for me, 'I Say Grace', 'Both Sides Now' and 'May It Be' were the worst). The album itself is very good. I have a few versions of Odyssey, I've lumped the songs together in my iTunes under the same album and it still has a five-star rating.
In the Poll I selected "Wasn't what it should have been". They could have done much better.
I have to say of all of Hayley's albums I'm most disappointed with her first New Zealand release 'Hayley Westenra'. I know, It was great at the time, at her age.

I can't believe you put May it Be as one of the worst songs on Odyssey! I love that song, both by Hayley and Enya. I can't even say I like one of these singers' versions better than the other, because there are things I love about both of them. I don't think there are any songs Hayley has done that I would call the "worst"! Sure, there are some I don't care for as much as others, but I would never go as far as to call any of them her worst song! She doesn't have any of those! I do agree a little about the HW album. I was very disappointed with Pie Jesu. It was way too fast. So was Ave Maria. Even she has said later that she thought these songs were too fast, but she didn't voice her opinion about it. I also am not crazy about her version of Walking in the Air compared with Chloe Agnew's. Her voice then was a little too yawny-sounding to me, at least in some vowel sounds. I do like the song Bright Eyes, though. But as a whole, I'm not crazy about the song choices on the album. Too many overdone show tunes. I have it more as a collector's item than one to actually listen to. When I want to play music, that's never the first album on my list to put on, I admit.

The same thought struck me too Libby.
I really would me at a loss to choose Hayley's worst song, just as much as I am to choose my favourite. Perhaps for me on paper her worst song should be "Mother of Mine", a song I used to detest, but I have to say my dislike of that song has nothing to do with Hayley, and I do enjoy her version.
We have to remember too that HW was her first effort (apart from WITA) and she was only 13. That was still a great achievement for a 13 year old, even though, like you, I rarely play it these days.

Hi Libby, Martin and everyone Had a look back to see what I wrote back in 2006 - I remember not liking it at all when I first played it but soon realised that that was because I was expecting another Pure. As we've all, I think, now come to accept that no two Hayley albums are alike and listen to each new one with an open mind. Once I got used to that (I seem to remember it took only a couple of plays) I soon fell in love with it I actually have 10 versions of Odyssey now and still think there's a couple I haven't got. I can't help wishing that someone had had the forsight to produce an international special addition that included everything! If I've counted correctly, that would mean 25 tracks plus 4 videos! Whilst I agree with Martin about Quanta Qualia - still one of my all time favourites, there were gems like You Are Water on the US version, Down To The River and Mary Did You Know from Germany and Bachs Ave Maria on the New Zealand special edition! Nothing disappointing about Odyssey at all! Best wishes Grant

Hi Grant!
I had no idea Hayley recorded Down to the River! How do I get my hands on a German edition of Odyssey? Ebay?
Cheers, Jillian

Hi Grant! I had no idea Hayley recorded Down to the River! How do I get my hands on a German edition of Odyssey? Ebay? Cheers, Jillian Yeah, that's a new one on me, too! Really? Are you sure? Haha, I guess you would know. I always counted 22 songs that I knew had been on some version of Odyssey or another. I don't count the different versions of songs, such as What You Never Know, etc., as different songs.

Well, from what I know, "Down to the River" was on the bonus DVD, so I'm guessing it would be from the "Live From NZ" DVD.

Cheers, Jillian Hi Jillian Bamafan is partly correct in that Down To The River is on the DVD and is taken from "the recording" of Live In New Zealand BUT (and It's such a long time since I played it, I had to play it again tonight to make sure I was right!) On the Live in New Zealand DVD it's part of the Spiritual Medley and lasts 41 seconds running straight into Amazing Grace. On the Odyssey DVD there's a full 1 minute 55 seconds. I don't know how easy it would be find a copy now - to be honest, I haven't looked lately but if it's any help the catalogue number is 475-779-0 and my copy has a round sticker on the front of the case. Best wishes Grant
