Thanks for the information Stephany! I'd been expecting a Japan tour in June because we do know unofficially that Hayley's new album "especially for Japan" is likely to be released "at the start of the summer" so having a tour at the same time would be the sensible thing to do. And from Hayey's point of view, we know she likes Japan so she'll grasp at any excuse to go back there! Cheers, Dave

It's also one of the only countries where she's doing concerts in the afternoon. Hi Stephany Several of Hayley's last Japanese concerts were in the afternoon. I remember Eugene talking about that at Bath last December. If I remember correctly, it has something to do with work ethics and the distance many Japanese have to travel to and from work. I guess, therefore, that they go straight from work and head home after the concert. Best wishes Grant

Apart from openly stating she loves the country, Hayley is obviously very popular there not only from an appearance viewpoint but also by record sales. It would be interesting to learn what percentage of total sales last year were by Japanese customers? Hi Martin, Japan is Hayley's 3rd or 4th biggest market in CD sales (after the UK and NZ and probably close to her US CD sales numbers). With 43% of the US population and a much smaller land area to cover in Japan, it seems to make sound commercial sense at the moment to focus on Japan in preference to the US - though I'm sure things will happen again there too, in due course. Of course, as CDs drop in price and sales numbers (for everyone) they are becoming less important as a source of income for singers and musicians. If Hayley can fill 1,500 to 2,000 capacity concert halls in Japan, it may be as important a market to her as the UK and NZ. I'm not suggesting that the US isn't important too (think Il Divo and Celtic Woman!) but for this year, the focus is different and Japan seems to have high priority. Cheers, Dave

Thanks for the information Dave - very interesting.
I do wonder if this will be the trend now for Hayley; that is, more concerts and appearances rather than relying on record sales for primary income. This is certainly the trend recently with bands, in particular the "reunion" tours which in most cases have been extremely lucrative. Take That was a good example and I believe other groups are planning similar tours, for example Boyzone. And of course the Rolling Stones and Status Quo have been doing it for years as record sales have virtually been non existant.
Best wishes Martin

I do wonder if this will be the trend now for Hayley; that is, more concerts and appearances rather than relying on record sales for primary income. But that has always been the case Martin. However much the record company invests in a record deal, it all has to be repaid eventually by the artist. Meanwhile, concerts are the virtually the only way they can make a living. Roger

However much the record company invests in a record deal, it all has to be repaid eventually by the artist. Meanwhile, concerts are the virtually the only way they can make a living. Roger Hi Roger and Martin, It cannot be emphasized enough that the publicized details of a record deal are very misleading. About 99 percent of the time, the dollar value of that deal really amounts to little more than a loan to the artist for marketing. The revenue from CD sales is applied back to the loan - and only in rare cases does the artist ever make a direct profit from this. Having said this, there is one additional motive for the artist to try to sell as many CD's as they can. CD sales and the revenue an artist generates from concert tickets tend to be synergystic. Of course an artist like Hayley does have sources of revenue besides concert sales - things like the Japanese cookie commercial come to mind. I am not entirely sure about how book deals work - but I suspect that an author is more likely to be able to keep at least some portion of the advance as well As an almost off-topic aside, legacy groups like the Stones can survive now only because their original fan base was huge - so big that 20 percent of it (or less) is still enough to sell out concert venues. It is the norm for album sales - which reflect the general size of the fanbase - to rise for a while, level off, and then fall - and the fact that Hayley has only a moderate base spread out over such a wide area does provide me with some degree of concern for the time at which she reaches that point. Thanks for the information on Hayley's next visit to Japan. At least I now have a period of time where I can safely book 'non Hayley' things without fear of missing a concert! Hi Grant, Does that mean you are not planning a holiday in Japan at this time Grant ? Graham

If I dont like the idea of going to Japan does that mean I am dis-oriented?

Martin, you are quite right in saying that it will be a lucrative tour. Most of the venues listed above can welcome at least 1,800 people! It's also one of the only countries where she's doing concerts in the afternoon. It would come as no surprise if Hayley toured Japan on a regular basis from now on. Stephany Hi Stphany, This is an example of what can happen when a reasonable number of fans are concentrated in a space small enough to cover - not only more concerts can be done in a tour, but the average attendance will also be notably larger. Hi Stephany! Thank you for the informations about Hayley's Japan tour next June. She likes Japan very much so it's great that she's got the possibility to go there again. Beside the concerts she can deepen her experience with Japanese Porridge and how to act in a Japanese Spa. Maybe there'll be more stuff for another anecdote. Best wishes, Thomas xx

Hello everybody! I edited my earlier post about the Pure Voice Concert Tour schedule HERE with details regarding the June 17th performance. There will be an additional concert on June 22nd if the tour sells well (the location and venue will be determined later). The concert schedule is now also available on Samon Promotion. Stephany

It's also one of the only countries where she's doing concerts in the afternoon. Interesting! Do Japanese like to go to bed early then? Martin Thank you, Martin and everyone We, Japanese may like to go to spa and have dinner after her concert on Saturday or Sunday. I guess that she also likes to do that. And she will challenge some new Japanese foods like natto. Do British like to go to her concert after breakfast? GMwind61

Do British like to go to her concert after breakfast? Hi GMwind61 I wish!! But unfortunately we usually have to wait until the evening which makes it a very long day. I can definitely see an advantage in seeing Hayley in the afternoon because I can never get to sleep after I see her in the evening. Best wishes Martin. ps You're English is very good.
