While this thread was temporarily hidden, the following post was made in a replacement thread: Just in today Everyone: From: Kathy Hughes To: graeme Sent: Monday, December 10, 2007 11:17 AM Subject: Re: Hayley Westenra
Hi Graeme,
Sorry about the delay in getting this information to you.
I have finally received information on the Hayley Westenra Concert!
Hayley Westenra and Dave Dobbyn - In Tune With Nature Hayley Westenra and Dave Dobbyn first shared a stage in London, to a standing audience, at the city’s rock venue, Shepherds Bush Empire. It was an unlikely pairing that struck an obvious chord as soon as the first duet began. When they ended the night with a stirring version of Dobbyn’s ‘Welcome Home’ it was clear they would work together again. Things are very different second time around - New Zealand summer evenings, the stage and backdrop are the spectacular settings of some the finest vineyards, open air, green, a safe family environment, blankets, wine and good food, room to dance, space to cloud-gaze, transport to the gate…….. This time they are in tune with nature. The ‘In Tune With Nature’ concert series, presented by Newstalk ZB, offers a rare opportunity to see on the same bill the 3-million-selling Westenra and Dobbyn, whose songs have become the soundtrack to many New Zealand lives. They will each perform separately with their own band and collaborate on songs that have stood the test of time. The programme will also feature the talented violin player, Fiona Pears. Dobbyn picks up the background: “I arrived in London in time for rehearsals and Hayley would say “what about Welcome Home?” or we’d think of a song that resonated with both of us and soon we had a list of duets, from Oughta Be In Love to Tim Finn’s ‘Six Months in a Leaky Boat’, but there just wasn’t time to pull them all together. Now we are exchanging those song-titles again in preparation for the February tour. ” Westenra’s successful international career – she recorded the highest-selling record of all time in New Zealand, in Japan it is the best-selling classical album in the country’s history and the fastest-selling classical debut in the UK – means she is unable to visit home as frequently as she would wish. And Dobbyn’s focus will soon turn from past songs to future writing when he heads to London in March to record his new album. So if you do nothing else this summer, catch these two great names on one outstanding bill at six stunning outdoor events in February.

Hello Belinda,
I also wonder who the weather was in there. I know it wasn't as bad as Auckland, but I can just imagine Hayley getting off the plane in Auckland, and thinking... "oh no...."

I got to Alana Estates about 2pm (gates open at 3, it's nice to be first in line) was told the ticket tent wasn't ready, and I should go back to the highway, I said OK but had already spotted Gerald and went to say Hello, then Hayley was doing rehersal for Summer Fly or Rain? (Hayleywowed already) another Hello! A visiting Piper friend of Hayley, who accompanied her on Treasure, Matthew McIsaac was rehersing with Hayley and for the show he accompanied her on SummerRain and played a solo on the Bagpipe purposefully and in quicktime, (very good), otherwise the set list was the same as the other NZ concerts. Hayleys voice was expressive and vibrant for the whole show, Dave Dobsyn got through HINE without his lyric sheet! Fiona performed 5 tunes with Ian and the band including Memories of Martin and Mary and SabreDance, which Fiona and Ian do extremely well together. Hayley came on for her set wearing the pretty Red Dress, very appropriate as the weather was Fine and about 27C. Hayley's setlist was pretty much the same as Brancott ( it's not good to mess with the Band), 2 encores, Down to the River and Welcome Home, then at least an hour signing and pictures at the merchandise tent, quite a long day, I was at the Alana Estate for 8 hours, I bet Hayley was there for 3 or 4 more. I've got a picture of Gerald and Sophie, Isaac was not there this time, and Jill had a camera stuck to her pretty face most of the day.
This audience was louder and more responsive then the others on this tour, could it be a difference between North and South Islanders?
I spoke with Ian after the show, he said they were flying to the UK on Monday after the Auckland show, Godspeed for all! I spent most of Sunday driving to CHCH to get ready for my flight(s) on Tuesday AM, I'll post pictures when I get home Wednesday.............TimJ
( I think 27C = about 80F but I'll NEVER be able to figure Liters to Gallons with NZD and USD )

Thanks for the report Tim
Nice to hear you got to meet some of the family again and interesting to hear that Hayley has met up with her piper again. I would love to hear that live!
Looking forward to your pictures but, in the mean time, have a safe journey home.
God bless Grant
