Uni-Link have announced that there will be major disruptions on the U1 service for the next four weeks due to road works. I presume Dave will inform us how this affects those who intended to use this service?

Only one week to go... hopefully the weather will be okay because I really fancy a ferry trip before the concert! Stephany Hi Stephany The Hythe ferry is your best bet www.hytheferry.co.uk/ from Town Quay to Hythe. It passes the Ocean Liner Terminal. A Student off peak return is £2.90. I hope the weather is better, we have had nothing but gales and driving rain down here the last few days. I am going to London on Monday and then back down to Southampton on Thursday. I am looking forward to meeting all the members I have not seen before. Tony

More importantly, let's hope there are no delays on inbound flights from Brunei ! In Richard's absence, I'd better mention it's only

Hi guys, I wouldn't worry about the buses, it's only roadworks. The worst that will happen is that the buses will tend to clump together and arrive two at a time. Instead of catching say the 1600 bus you'll end up catching the 1530 running half an hour late - but obviously the timings will vary a bit from the normal, I'm sure they won't be cancelling buses in large numbers and, after the rush hour (which will be over by about 1830) things should return pretty much to normal. However, I'll zip up there in the car later today, to check it out Cheers, Dave EditBeen there, done that. I'll post everything you needed to know and more... some time tonight. Watched the Queen Victoria leave on its maiden voyage from Southampton, went to the University then did my weekly shop at Tesco. Now, I need some dinner! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

OK guys, Directions and information See the two maps below 1) from the M27 junction 5 (or the M3) to the University and 2) of the University. Car routes are in black, Main traffic lights are in red and the final route to Turner Sims (walking) is in red. Bus Passengers should get the bus U1C from Southampton Aiirport (Parkway) rail station South to the University UNILINK Bus Interchange. Or the U1A from Southampton City Centre or the Central Rail station, North to the University UNILINK Bus Interchange. Bus Timetables are hereWritten directions and information are as follows.Driving from M27 junction 5 follow the Southampton or City Centre signs (South) at first on the A335. As soon as you see local signs for Swaythling follow them until soon, you see University or General/Western Hospital signed. Follow them onto the A35 (Burgess Road) but do not turn right (or left!) until you reach the 4th set of traffic lights - not counting any lights at the end of the M27 slip road. Turn right (bear right) when you reach MacDonalds which is right on the corner of Burgess Road, this is the 4th set of traffic lights. So as you drive past MacDonalds, it should then be on your left! University road is a mile or so along Burgess Road, on the left, at a set of three-way temporary traffic lights and these are what may cause delays! It was OK at 7pm when i was there but earlier in the day, there could be problems. If you come off the M3 onto the A33 (missing out the M27), just follow the signs for City Centre until you reach the Burgess Road traffic lights, then turn left - you will still have to negotiate the extra set of temporary traffic lights to get into University road. Car ParkingYou will see pay-and-display car parking on the left as you enter University Road, first on the left. But for the best car park, if you arrive after 5pm (permits only before then) is to take the first right on University road, into Salisbury Road. If you can't see a road sign, you should see Nightingale Building in front of you as you turn into Salisbury Road. The car park is behind Nightingale building. first entrance on the left and it's free (after 5). To walk to Turner Sims through the maze of buildings, do the following. Leave the car park on foot by the exit diagonally opposite where you came in - walk down the road ramp (look out for buses coming at you from behind!). At the foot of the ramp, the UNILINK Interchange is on your left (bus travellers join in here!) and you will see the Nuffield Theatre straight ahead of you. Turn right as you reach the Nuffield (there is a sign here for Turner Sims), there are then some bicycle racks on your right) then turn left, down a few steps and walk straight ahead, as far as you can, for about 100 metres (between two large 4 storey buildings). Turner Sims is signed and is tucked away on the right and you should be able to see the main entrance... down some more steps. It's a maze! RefreshmentsFor car drivers there is the MacDonalds (and a drive thru) and also a Burger King on Burgess Road, also various other food shops but a bit far to walk. On foot, unless you can use any Uni facilities you may see, your best bet is the pub on the corner of Burgess road and University road, it's called the STILE. They do serve food until 8pm but I was warned that it can get busy at the end of the student day (boozy lot that they are!) so allow plenty of time for food to be served. It is not a very big pub - but it might be a good place for people who arrive early to meet - so check it out! Routes from M3 - or M27 Junction 5 - to the University Highfield Campus Routes into the Carparks (black) and walking from there or UNILINK interchange to Turner Sims (red) Cheers, Dave

The weather forecast is still very good for tomorrow...we are lucky considering the rainy week we've just had See you tomorrow Stephany It may be dry but there's going to be an icy east wind. Quite a shock for someone who's been sunning themselves in Brunei ! Thanks for all your input Dave. As always I'll leave early (Deal or no deal permitting !!) and allow time for holdups. Regarding food, think I'll eat before I leave home. I'm told the bar at Turner Sims opens at 7pm. Personally I like to keep a clear head before a concert. Looking at the night-time temperatures, cup-a-soup may be more welcome !! For Tony and others without cars, the last bus from the interchange to the station is 11.39pm but we should be away by then. Can't see Hayley wanting to hang around anyway. It's a long day for her and she'll want to be getting back to London. Just hope there's no fog at Heathrow on Thursday morning or she may be "cutting it fine."
