WEST SIDE STORY, one of the greatest musicals ever written, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and Woburn Abbey plays host to a world exclusive "highlights" performance. Songs performed will include Maria, Somewhere, Tonight, America and many more and the concert will feature international recording star Hayley Westenra playing the role of Maria, while the new tenor sensation Vittorio Grigolo will play the role of Tony. Thanks for the tip-off Drew. I've created a new folder in my IE, URGENT CHECKS, so I can quickly check this out daily following an Outlook prompt..
If it is near the lake remember your anti-midge cream! Its an hour's cross-country drive for me. Anyone not car-able I suppose Luton would be the best station (for the fast trains out of St Pancras) but would they run a bus service? For car drivers out of London it is straight up the M! about an hour too.
Haven't been there for yonks--about three dukes back!
Might take the day to look round the house again, although last time I was there as a personal guest! Perhaps the safari park which hadn't started the last time I was there or was at least nowhere near as large as it is now.

Thanks Drew. This in my opinion is a must see concert and something already discussed here previously.
Almost certainly it will be recorded and released on cd and, hopefully also on dvd..
As Grant would say regarding tickets:
RED ALERT

Drew, thanks for the major update. Hayley with Vittorio ? Woa - what a fantastic duet ! Marianne will be absolutely thrilled to hear the news. I remember when she asked the question to Hayley via the chat on "Gather", Hayley said she loved Vittorio's voice, no wonder if she worked with him all this time

Is this confirmed by Steve A.? If so, can then be added to the 2007 schedule (incidentally Dave, Jersey not showing yet).

HI everyone Thanks for bringing this one to our attention Drew. Like you, I think, Woburn is only a short drive from where I live, apart from which it sounds like a good afternoon/evening out AND a chance to see Hayley doing something different I think I will wait for Roger to get confirmation from Steve Abbot before booking tickets though Best wishes Mark

The date on the main page says "Saturday July 28th". It is only the pop-up flyer that says 27th. I will request confirmation from you-know-who! Roger

They're still using pictures from Pure! Won't they be surprised when the young dark-haired girl from the flyer turns up as a lighter-haird lovely young lady. Anyone know why they're still using pictures from Pure? <3 Caite

HI Caite I thought exactley the same thing WHY are they using such out of date pics I remember when I was in the audience of aprevious Hayley concert when the pic on the flyer was out of date and I actually heard the person sitting next to me say to her friend " she looks totally different to how I expected" I just had to point out that the photo was at least 3 years out of date By the way Caite, your up very late, it must be the middle of the night where you are Best wishes <3 Mark

I wonder if it's because she looks so young in the picture, and that will attract more people? But really, if they know who she is they'll know the picture is out of date. Ah well. Yes - It's nearly 2.40am but it's still early yet! <3 Caite

I wonder if it's because she looks so young in the picture, and that will attract more people? Hum...I'm not sure they need to "calculate" that much to attract people. They know it is a unique event and besides, the popularity of "West Side Story" already makes it all.

This event has now been confirmed by Bedlam Management. Because of the earlier confusion, the date is Saturday 28th July.
