BBC: I just had to post this video of 10 year old Kayleigh Rogers who has learning disabilities, singing Hallelujah with her school choir. She is from the special school in Newtownards, Northern Ireland and is no Jackie Evancho but I think her voice has a lovely tone and her performance really is something special; with vocal training as is now being suggested, who knows what she could achieve? The choir did an excellent job too. Marvellous. Cheers, Dave

Did you notice the boys and girl on the left appearing and disappearing, maybe it was done in several takes. Having viewed it several times, it does seem to be several takes.
It's hard to believe that this song was pretty much ignored by the world for over ten years after it's initial release by Leonard Cohen.
I saw Andre Rieu and his orchestra do a very moving version of it in London on Sky arts the other night.

I think she has a lovely voice- would be lovely to hear more from her, and the choir too. Love the version of Hallelujah too, never heard those lyrics before!

I saw Andre Rieu and his orchestra do a very moving version of it in London on Sky arts the other night. Very perceptive of you Paul, I hadn't noticed! Here is the original report from Belfast Telegraph and it contains full details of the performance...s! www.belfastlive.co.uk/whats-on/family-kids-news/watch-schoolgirl-special-needs-reduces-12342838There were three performances and although I think the vocals and accompaniment were taken from a single performance by Kaylee, together with most of the video, it looks like there are some inserted clips from the other performances. This may be because it's very difficult for all of a large group of special needs children like these to maintain their attention for that length of time and a few of the children in the choir (such as the boy on the left) may have behaved unexpectedly at times. They took the precaution of having multiple camera angles too, I see. Having a daughter who has grown up with similar disabilities, I am familiar with the enviromment and I love this story. I hope young Kaylee can progress as she may be quite a talent, one that would usually remain hidden for ever. As one of the top comments says... Cheers, Dave

Dave, the christian version of hallelujah, lyrics by Cloverton, is pretty much blocked or muted on Youtube. I hope they don't find your post.

It doesn't make sense to compare her to Jackie Evancho, since they are not the same types of singers. Jackie is not the best singer, but she sings it very nicely with Peter Hollens. Though most people have heard it sung far better than Jackie. The choir itself, as you say, was very nice. She, however, was a little nasally, partly because some of the time she was using her "head voice". That's like singing inside your head; you're kind of just listening to how your voice sounds from inside your head, and it gives off a kind of thin, tinny sound. I think she projected her voice well, but her jaw didn't look relaxed, which I think contributed to headiness. Just think of the way Hayley sings (especially these days). She uses proper breath support, which allows her to put power into her voice, and she opens her mouth and relaxes her jaw properly, so she's able project and hit high notes without straining her voice. So yes, she could definitely use some vocal coaching (not Hayley!). I don't expect that she should have known all this beforehand, I'm just pointing out the technicalities. If this were The Voice, where nobody sees you or knows anything about you at first, unfortunately, I would not be turning my chair around. Sorry. And I wouldn't turn it around just because I found out she had disabilities. That would be patronizing. Ooh, I have a good example of singers using the nasal/head voice. The Gothard Sisters. They are great musicians, though the wild fiddling sound gets really old after a while. But... no offense to some of our members who like them,... they have a terrible case of sounding as if they're singing through a clenched smile. That is terrible technique. I just don't get how people can find this enjoyable to listen to. I mean, not every song is like this, or at least not as much. I do think they have pretty voices, per se, but they use poor technique, which makes them really weak singers. My dad may have discovered Hayley for me, but unfortunately his tastes (when he has any) have since gone downhill. Get this, he thinks their atrocious, butchered rendition of Scarborough Fair is better than Hayley's! Ooh, and don't get me started on their Miley Cyrus song... Miley is one of the nastiest celebrities I can think of these days, but sorry, Miley sings it better. I can't even stand the song, anyway, but they ruined an already bad song. My mom thought for sure theirs would be better, but she changed her mind pretty fast! Okay, sorry for straying off-topic.
