That can't be the case, as Camilla's album has been pushed back to the 23rd. Reason being that they have decided to tack on a second disc with some Christmas songs. Hayley had the 16th November date all to herself. Rhydian has changed his album to 'O Fortuna'. I just wish all these record companies would make up their minds! Camilla goes back to where she started, 23rd, and Hayley goes to where I wanted her in the first place, 23rd or (more likely) 30th November. Hot competition though on the 30th. I've updated my list of the main classical crossover releases here.Meanwhile, back in the Amazon rankings, Hayley has today reached her highest rank yet at no. 204 as I write, with Ronan Keating's "Winter Songs" exactly one place behind at no. 205! They are both moving targets though, in more ways than one! Dave

Perhaps, looking at the competitoin, 16th would have been the best date. But I suppose the extra song has made that impossible.

Amazon ranking update. Over the last week, UK Winter Magic has been consistently between no. 200 and no. 300, usually closer to 200. Last night and today it's gone up the rankings a bit to no. 188 176 as I write. It should climb some more later today, after this afternoon's Titchmarsh show. Mysteriously, Winter Magic does not appear at all in the Amazon pre-release rankings for 30 November, its release date It should currently be no. 5 (just above Faryl Smith). I tried to inform Amazon of this problem last week but nothing's happened, does anyone else want to try? It is, however, currently no. 12 in the overall prerelease listings (for all weeks). Let's hope Susan Boyle doesn't mop up the entire Christmas present market when she releases the week before Hayley... . I'm telling everyone I don't want Susan's, I wonder how many Winter Magics that will get ,me? Dave

Hi Dave
I assume you are referring to Amazon UK. Her ranking on Amazon.com has been running very similarly (from 218-345 from my observation). Some limited word may be getting out over here...I just cant figure out how

Yes, this is my fear. With all this other stuff going on, WM will get lost in the noise. Guess who will get all the promotion? I'll bet it won't be Hayley. And once again she wil be swamped by over-hyped but inferior singers.
I don't think WM will qualify as classical, so Hayley won't get her traditional support from Classic FM. So we have to build on the Terry Wogan thing I think. What happened today shows how much love and support is out there for Hayley. If you ever doubted it after the Tweeter Wall of Fame.
I think I might have been a lone voice trying to interest Sir Terry in Hayley's music. If a few more do it now, he might take notice!

Hi Dave I assume you are referring to Amazon UK. Her ranking on Amazon.com has been running very similarly (from 218-345 from my observation). Some limited word may be getting out over here...I just cant figure out how Jon Hi Jon, Yes indeed, the UK edition on Amazon UK, though the thread is of course to discuss all versions. It's up to no.158 at the moment on Amazon UK which would place it at no. 5 in Amazon UK for the release list of 30 November (if it was listed there). There are normally 5 or 6 new top 20 entries in the UK album charts every week (8 this week) so I'd say things are on course at the moment. At the end of November, it's going to be a lot tougher than usual for Hayley to get into the top 20 and I don't know if that's doable. But if Decca are interested enough to do it, there are rich sales pickings to be had by Christmas Day. I think in the US, being in the top 300 at Amazon.com is excellent but I think the big difference between US and UK is that in the US, most people expect to have to get it from Amazon, whereas in the UK, Hayley fans will expect to see it in the shops so a much smaller proportion will order it online. Amazon UK will give us a reasonable guide by the release date as to the likely official chart position but I don't think Amazon.com will (for the US). Martin, Hayley has mostly been higher than both Faryl and Camilla Kerslake in the UK prerelease rankings and I don't think they will be a big problem: many will buy Hayley and Faryl (but I'm not sure about Camilla). The problem - for all classical crossover artists this Christmas... is Susan Boyle. She will be hyped unto the sky by X-Factor, Cowell and probably the entire media and it's just a question of how close she can get to a million by Christmas (or how many millions in the US). I hope she leaves a few thousand for Hayley (and Faryl). A reminder of the main competition as I see it in the UK (I don't know the situation) in the US and elsewhere such as NZ): Fron Male Voice Choir – Voices Of The Valley: Down Memory Lane [23rd Nov] Susan Boyle - I Dreamed A Dream [23rd Nov] The Priests – Harmony [23rd Nov] Andrea Bocelli – My Christmas [30th Nov] The Band Of The Coldstream Guards – Heroes [30th Nov] Faryl Smith – Wonderland [30th Nov] Hayley Westenra – Winter Magic [30th Nov] Il Divo - An Evening With Il Divo [30th Nov] Rhydian – O Fortuna [30th Nov] Not to mention all the bog-standard pop and rock albums. It's going to be tough out there... no prisoners will be taken. Cheers, Dave

But if Decca are interested enough to do it, there are rich sales pickings to be had by Christmas Day. Just to add to this, the most Hayley has ever sold in the UK in her debut week for any album (including Pure) is about 25,000 copies, which got her into the top 10. That would have just scraped into the top 30 for an end of November release last year so if she can do that, it will be a success. But it's going to be tough, she may just have to settle for a top 40 placing. Anything much below that will be a problem because it may then fall out of the top 70 or so that supermarkets typically stock before Christmas, and that would chop its sales in half. Hopefully not but i thought I'd mention it in case anyone is hoping for another top ten entry in the UK. NZ probably... but not in the UK I am sure. But total sales are what really matter and even a top 40 entry might enable Hayley to get a gold disc this time (Treasure and R. o. D. didn't do that). Dave

Quick update:
At Amazon.com (for the US) it's not looking quite so good with only a few days left to next week's release, Winter Magic is currently just below the no. 400 rank. Good enough to get it well into the Classical Crossover chart though, if it counts as that genre there.
In the UK, it's looking better, with Winter Magic at its highest Amazon UK ranking so far no. 145. This makes it the no. 14 prerelease album there, no. 6 in their Christmas Albums and no. 6 in their 30 November releases list. HMV also have it at no. 6 in their 30 November list.
Winter Magic is still ahead of both Faryl and Camilla in the rankings, even though Camilla releases on Monday (but no doubt there will be much publicity before then to push it up). I think that for Hayley, it's "so far so good" and it looks like its on course to become her first UK album release to increase its sales over the previous release (unless you count the special editions of Pure and Odyssey separately). I think the target must be to try and beat the UK sales of "Treasure" - beating last year's "River of Dreams" shouldn't be a problem.
I don't have any information about this week's NZ release yet.

In that list, I only see 3 albums that are Christmas albums, including Hayley's. It would be nice if the dates could be different, but I don't think it will be that bad. Amazon isn't the only place that's selling the CD, although I'm sure it's the main place where people purchase it. I'm going to check my B & N, and if they don't have it, I'll get it at Amazon as usual.

Because of the haphazard way in which I am currently running my life I am completely lost. I cannot recall if I pre-ordered Hayley or Faryl, or perhaps both, so I will have to wait until later before buying either, or both!

Hi Peter Hmm, the only other option I can think of is to check your e-mails. Whenever a pre-order is made online the site/company send an e-mail confirming they have received your order. This all depends on whether you keep those kind of e-mails though, because they are not receipts, just order confirmations. Cheers, Ben

Thanks Peter, I don't feel too bad now, I was beginning to suspect life was running me. My computer seems to have a mind of it's own and occasionally lets me use it things arrive in the post that I had forgotten I had ordered. I wait for items that I think I may have ordered. I think it is the Pre-ordering. before the item is even in production that catches me out the most often I see items on my credit card bill and I am just puzzled

Well, I am tempted never to preorder anything that might appear in a local supermarket. Because if so, the supermarket might have it before I do, which is what happened with River of Dreams. Once bitten... But then, you cannot guarantee what supermarkets will stock. Sue would like Susan Boyle's album, out Monday. Will it be in the supermarkets? Quite probably, I will wait and see. The supermarkets seem to be getting less and less interested in stocking audio CDs, having seen off most of the record shops, so we need to keep encouraging them I think. If it is an overseas release from Hayley, I preorder instantly. But for UK releases, I wait and see.
