Hi everyone, There's all sorts of impassioned headlines appearing like 'Hayley Westenra Scraps New Zealand Tour, Heads Home to Christchurch'. The media love their headlines. I'm sure it's not all as dramatic as that. Everything has probably just been shifted backwards a bit. Cheers, Jillian the nz womans weekly is famous for hyping up almost any headline... im surprised they havent embraced the mayan calender thing..... "world ends in 2012, singing star brings tour forward to 2011" and from Jono im hoping it will be non-exclusive, since she's delaying her concert tour to do it.... i need something soon {no desperation here}. cheer up jono at least chc will be free

Okay, you all, now you see why I was worried. At first I just didn't notice the article that clearly explains the situation. The Voxy one has been the only one I've seen that said clearly that it was postponed, and didn't make it seem like all her plans were cancelled. None of them said it was cancelled, of course, but saying that something is happening "instead" of something else seems to indicate that the something else isn't happening ever. Thankfully, this is not the case.

There are one or two stories about premontitions of the earthquake doing the rounds. I heard one today from my brother.
A couple he knows live in Christchurch Cambridgeshire. This is a small remote village way out in the fens, not so well known as some other Christchurches. But the couple were married there, some 30 odd tears ago, and sometimes they have celebrated their wedding anniversary by going to another Christchurch and standing in the church there at the exact moment of their anniversary (there are apparently 13 places called Christchurch in the UK).
They had never been to Christchurch NZ however, and were thinking about going there this year. The wife, however, had a feeling they should not go this year, and her husband thought "OK, perhaaps another year, it is rather a long way". So they didn't go.
Their wedding anniversary is 22nd February... they would almost certainly have been inside the cathedral when the earthquake struck.
I heard that no bodies were found inside the cathedral. That itself is a miracle...

February 22nd in NZ was still the 21st in much of the western part of the world. Would they have stood there on the 22nd in NZ, or the 23rd? And of course, they wouldn't have been able to on the 23rd.
BTW, our Christchurch forum member on the official forum, Olivia, has just posted, telling us she and her family are fine, except that they're dealing with power outtages, and having to go get their own clean water. She seems to have a very positive attitude about it, though. Good for her.

"New Zealand is a lovely country and the people of New Zealand are truly wonderful. They are cheerful, unfailingly polite and courageous. They certainly did not deserve this tragedy."
The words of Terry Waite writing in "Mature Times", a sentiment I'm sure we all share from a newspaper us oldies like to read.

Spiderman and anyone else who wanted to see Hayley's ITV interview on the day after the earthquake, I did copy it from the ITV website and have now figured out how to convert it to flash video and upload and host it on our own website (it's not on our Youtube) so here it is: www.hayley-westenra-international.com/content/earthquake-disaster-christchurch-new-zealandScroll to the bottom of the page, it should play for everyone (hopefully, it's the first one like that I've done). There are a few things still to be added to the HWI video thing, it's "under construction". With a slow connection, if it stop-starts just pause it until more of the video loads in the progress bar. Cheers, Dave

Only if she's dropped out of the Dame Vera Lynn Ball, which is occuring that same evening, in the UK, at least. If she were going to be there, I would think the article would mention it. Plus, it doesn't seem tactful to ditch one charitable event for another, even if it is something special for your home country. Hayley is the vice president, after all, and it is a worthy cause.

There's all sorts of impassioned headlines appearing like 'Hayley Westenra Scraps New Zealand Tour, Heads Home to Christchurch'. The media love their headlines. Except that the ones I've seen say "Scarps" instead of "Scraps". Somebody forgot to use spellcheck before they sent it out, all across the NZ media. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

I don't think Hayley has abandoned the idea of a concert tour here completely. These could very well be extras to what may have been originally planed. I wouldn't read too much into it at this stage as far as media reports go, cheers, Rodders

There is perhaps a bit more detail in that interview about her fathers shop and its damage. it reminds one how fragile life is the spiderman

Hello everyone, I just had to share the following wide-angle photo of Christchurch, taken moments after the February earthquake struck. It's from a BBC article today and will no doubt appear (or have appeared) elsewhere, too. The entire BBC article is fascinating and is packed with information, amazing satellite composites showing the amount of ground motion, and links to some other equally detailed articles. Well done to the BBC website on this and Gillian Needham who took the photo. Dave
