I came across this tune for the American Civil war song, "When This Cruel War is Over". freepages.music.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~edgmon/cwcruel.htmThe tune does not match the sheet music which is pictured on the page. The sheet music shows the standard tune composed by Henry Tucker. www.stephen-foster-songs.de/amsong60.htmI was wondering if anyone knows whether there is an alternate tune for this song. If not, I'm really curious to find out what this tune really is. It has such a beautiful melody. I tried emailing the webmaster of the site in question, but the email address is invalid. So, if there are any Civil War buffs out there, I'd appreciate your help!

I have finally identified this tune (thanks to some friends at another forum), and I thought I'd share my discovery. The song is The Cruel War is Raging. It is a touching song of a girl who wishes to accompany her lover into battle. Here are the lyrics. ingeb.org/songs/cruelwar.htmlThe song was made popular in the 1960s by American folk-singing trio: Peter, Paul, and Mary. www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvFq6VvFxjoMy favorite version is by the young Patty Duke who sang this song during her first live performance in 1966. She sings it simply, yet with such heartfelt emotions. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGBHUlPm9bMI would love to hear Hayley do this song. It is so beautiful, and she has a great voice for folk music. (Moderators: does this thread need to be moved to "Other Music" now?)

I really enjoyed the music clips...the first might be from the Andy Williams Show?? The other is a classic of the Merv Griffin Show ! Thank you for sharing, Joe
