I had wondered... 😉 I’ve been trying to figure it out since the “riding in cars with boys post from July. I also thought that the person taking the pics in Hong Kong might be somebody other than Steve; I just remembered he was in Japan during most of her time in Hong Kong. Speaking of which, click on @reechardai’s name in her post; he just posted a new pic of himself in Hong Kong, and you’ll never guess who took the photo. 😉. Unfortunately, now people are making comments about her former husband, but in their defense, she hasn’t exactly made it common knowledge that he is her ex. Not that she never said anything anywhere, though you would have to be frequent forum users in order to know or even remember that translated article from Taiwan... that was the one and only time she said it publicly. There have been subtle clues for the past few years now, though, which is why some of us knew earlier than that article... 🤐 With complete respect to Hayley, I’ve had my suspicions about the breakup but holy moly guacamole, never thought that there was an announcement about it 😯😯😦

I wouldn’t have called it an announcement, just a mention. And a reluctant one, at that. I certainly wasn’t expecting her to “announce” the new guy on Sm already. The New Zealand media hasn’t heard of it, I’m pretty sure, so if they’re still paying attention to Hayley, they might have the same reaction as these fans who are like, wait a minute, what happened to “you know who”. Oh well, it’s up to Hayley how she handles this.
Between this post, the new photo shoot pic (which is likely going to be an album pic), and the New year’s post where she said “So ready”... I’m starting to get my hopes up for something exciting this year. Personal life announcements often go hand in hand with publicity for album releases. Well, we’ll see eventually.
Already she’s posted on Sm a lot more than I expected after the New Year. Maybe that’s her New Years resolution. 😂

This sudden burst of "Insta" enthusiasm from Hayley is interesting.
Building on my 10 Dec 2018 post on the "Hayley on Spotify" thread, it seems clear that Hayley had some upheavals in both her professional life (post Hushaby) and her personal life around 2014/2015. Having been working pretty much flat out since the age of 14, this probably left her adrift in a beam sea as the expression goes. I seem to recall seeing an interview with a Classic FM presenter from many years ago where she was asked about what she did in her time of and she replied " gosh, time off – that would be nice!" says it all…
So all through her teens and early '20s, when most people hang out with friends and drink too much, she was working at a pace few could match. Thus she missed that adolescent phase.
This and the upheavals probably triggered that wandering of the world in late 2015, 2016 and early 2017 when she was clearly not her usual beaming self, followed by the relocation to LA where she seems to have friends and a creative network which was lacking in London and which has enabled her to re-group and enjoy some extended and well deserved "time off", effectively catching up on the adolescence which she missed a decade and more ago. Also LA is closer to home and closer to her far eastern fan base which seems to be her focus these days. I don't recon she'll come back in London to live.
Over 2018, signs have been getting stronger that something's afoot, so stick it out Libby! Hayley also appears to be returning to her ever smiling self. All very promising. So just maybe, things are starting to move.
I mentioned the demise of "Blockbuster" in my 10 Dec post. On Christmas Eve, it was announced in the UK that HMV, the record retailer started nearly a century ago by none other than Edward Elgar, had entered administration. The traditional business model for music sales is dying fast, with a commensurate rise in on-line sales and streaming. Expect some sort of Hayley Westenra web presence for this, which if I was to hazard a guess, will be sooner rather than later, with both new and any old material not under exclusive contract to Universal/Decca.
As I said at the start, interesting.

Very well put Chrissy. A lot of what you wrote makes a lot of sense, and kind of puts things in perspective as well.

Sad to see her miss out on her adolescencent life but I’m glad she’s been taking the time off she’s needed to bring herself back up again. I’m really looking forward to what the future holds for her! I’m still pretty convinced though at some point she might have a concert in Ca or in the U.S. in general. All signs are looking like it isn’t out of the picture at least so that’s very encouraging indeed as well! 😄

My two cents worth, and that may be all it's worth. I think it is possible that Hayley recorded a "partial" album last spring and summer in L.A. Some recent signs suggest the possibility that she may be going to complete the new project in NZ. It could easily be mixed and finished in NZ. As mentioned, this theory may only be worth "2 cents".

Some recent signs suggest the possibility that she may be going to complete the new project in NZ. It could easily be mixed and finished in NZ. As mentioned, this theory may only be worth "2 cents". Yes, she was in a "studio of dreams" last January. I wonder if Hayley and her new guy wrote a song together?? In my scouring of his FB page, I saw some mention of songwriting. So it's possible, and that would be really, really adorable if that happened. I'm sorry. I think this is what Alicia might call "fan-girling"? Idk, well, I'm calling it that. LOL Here's another thought on what Hayley's album could be like (I'm going to post her 2 released pics below for illustration): darkness and light. We know of at least 2 songs, Who Will Echo My Heart and Greener Lands, which are both very sad, emotional songs (and amazingly written and performed, I might add, but that's no surprise). Then there's that other one she still has only performed in Taiwan, Not Alone, another one coming from sadness, though a bit more inspiring and encouraging. This stemmed from her sorrowful times in life. Now that she has found love again, I have to wonder if there will also be happier songs on it. Now, here are the photos: Dark... black and white, down-turned eyes... no smile... Brings to mind the lyrics from WWEMH: "life is a vision of grey and of white, with no glimpse of springtime in sight..." ...and Light... bright, colored, with an up-turned chin and slight smile... hopefulness... Aandd, I've wondered about things since this post below, too... The broken heart symbol, followed by an exclamation heart, then a full, unbroken red heart. Next is the wilted flower, followed by a growing, live rose. It reminds me of the lyrics "... becomes the rose..." in the song The Rose, which she sang beautifully in Taiwan in 2016. It also reminds me of the Beauty and the Beast, where the rose dies, but then comes back to life again when the spell is broken. And then, she sang the B & the B song in Taiwan in 2017. Well, what do you think? I think this is when things happened. http://www.instagram.com/p/BjMwDXQnAnJ

I've seen it so many times with so many different people who suffer a broken relationship. For a while they don't want to do anything much, and are pretty much just exist, treading water but not going anywhere. All the signs are that that is what Hayley has been doing. Then someone new comes along and this changes things completely, with a new more positive outlook, a new smile on the face and a new energy. I have even been through it myself, and my late wife too was down when I met her. That we had that in common is what brought us together!
I had been hoping that something like that would happen to Hayley to shake her out of her depression and bring back the happy positive girl we know and love. I am very happy to say that it looks as if that is happening, and I feel more optimistic about new material from Hayley than I have for several years.

When I saw what appears to be a tattoo on his ring finger, I wondered if he too, has been married before. So, Martin, it's possible that they do have that in common. I really don't know of any other reason people get tattoos on their ring fingers; it's supposed to symbolize that the ring will never come off, meaning the marriage will never end. But I guess sometimes things change or happen when you least expect it. http://www.instagram.com/p/BsKZeUunC68 Here's that pic of Hayley on the orange car. Her smile and caption there are telling. Andrew and Jason are friends with Chris. I have to admit when I saw this photo (while I was in London, no less, and I believe that was the day my friend and I met up with John H to go to Salisbury/Stonehenge! ), I scrutinized Andrew's and Jason's pages, wondering if either of them were "the one". I concluded that Andrew already had a gf, and both he and Jason are smokers, and I certainly would hope Hayley would avoid that in a potential partner. http://www.instagram.com/p/Bm2V-22Hog2 Speaking of smoking, going back to the discussion of Hayley never really experiencing adolescence, I still recall the reason I dropped Charlotte Church and switched to Hayley Westenra (I had already been familiar with both). The reason I'm a huge fan today is that I went to Charlotte's website to see if she had a new album coming out, and she did. However, it was a total change, and not what I was looking for at all. Apparently, she had taken up smoking at some point too, but that's not why I was turned away. Anyway, immediately upon viewing her website, I checked out Hayley's next. It was a breath of fresh air in comparison! It was Odyssey coming out soon, and I absolutely loved the song clips I heard. After that, I got out my dad's copy of Pure and started playing it. I was excited to hear Hayley's new album, and I've been a fan ever since (I didn't join the forums till after Treasure, though). So anyway, even if remaining "pure" was not the most ideal situation for Hayley, it was part of why I admired her so much, aside from her extraordinary voice and beautiful songs. It's certainly a good thing she didn't start smoking. I don't think she ever would have done that, though.

I actually heard of her in summer 2004, soon after Pure was released in the USA. My dad saw something about her in an AARP magazine, of all places. When he first played Who Painted the Moon Black, I have to admit I was not extremely impressed, because I was aware that she was supposed to be similar to Charlotte Church. I really liked soprano voices, and that song isn’t much of a soprano song. Pokarekare Ana took a while to grow on me. I saw her on TV twice that year (I caught the tail end of her Live performance on PBS while waiting for the Josh Groban one, as well as seeing her on the Thanksgiving day parade). Other than that, I really didn’t think much about her till the time I described above. And it was Odyssey, not Treasure. 🙂

Chris posted 2 short videos of him with an orchestra in Hong Kong. One shows him conducting the string section, and the next one he’s playing piano. He tags Cyndi Lauper and Joni Mitchell. Nobody’s singing, but does anyone know what songs of theirs is being played? Also, who’s taking the video? 😉
